LSU

If you follow Georgia on social media, you may have noticed it’s been doing a playing card theme for 2022. So when LSU did a play on cards and queens upon its defeat of the Gymdogs in Athens, we knew it was a sneaky little jab at its conference rivals. That’s some ball sport gamesmanship we can get behind! Runner up is LSU’s following tweet with Sami Durante’s record in Athens. Older fans know Durante’s mother Danna was head coach at Georgia, and Sami was committed to compete for the Gymdogs before her mother was let go.

Auburn Gymnasties

The notorious painted line at Tiger meets came decked out in letters spelling out “Everything School” for the gymnastics Iron Bowl after men’s basketball head coach Bruce Pearl was quoted earlier in the week describing Auburn the same way.

“The Bachelor” alum attended his first gymnastics meet to cheer on friend and “Dancing With the Stars” co-star Suni Lee at Auburn’s sold out home meet against Alabama. James was so impressed by the competition that he’s petitioned his alma mater, Wake Forest, to start its own gymnastics program. FYI, ACC gymnastics will make its debut in 2024…

The Golden Flashes broke 49 on floor for the first time this season with a massive 49.475, over a half point improvement over its earlier scores. Four gymnasts scored 9.875 or higher including freshman Alyssa Guns, who earned a 9.975 in her debut performance.

Most Self Aware

Raena Worley, Kentucky

When asked by Alicia Sacramone, “Would you rather have the ability to fly or be invisible?” the back to back SEC Gymnast of the Week answered, “I already have the ability to fly.” No arguments from us!

Most Heartwarming Debut

Dymiana Cox, Penn State, beam exhibition

Senior Nittany Lion Dymiana Cox has missed her prior three seasons due to injury. On Saturday, she competed a beam exhibition routine at home, and her team bounded onto the mat surrounding her in a hug after she saluted. What a moment.
