About Bridget

Bourque is a 2019 J.O. nationals qualifier and the 2019 Florida state champion on beam. She has all around potential, and her gymnastics is reminiscent of Kentucky’s recent star graduate Mollie Korth. With a couple more years of club gymnastics under her belt, expect Bourque to make a difference at Kentucky.

What She Brings to Kentucky

Vault

  • Skill: Yurchenko 1.5
  • Results: first place at the 2020 La Fleur’s Classic
  • Margin of Improvement: Her Yurchenko 1.5 is still a bit unsteady, but she gets good height off the table. She may just need more time to perfect it.
  • Impact on the Team: Kentucky has just lost its best vaulter, Mollie Korth. Although the Wildcats are welcoming a new strong competitor in Isabella Magnelli this summer, they will be happy to welcome another good vaulter in two years. Bourque will be expected to make the lineup consistently.

Uneven Bars

  • Skills: piked Jaeger, bail to handstand, full-in dismount
  • Results: first place at 2020 Elevate the Stage
  • Margin of Improvement: She has some form issues here and there, especially a noticeable foot flex on her Jaeger, but her lines are overall good.
  • Impact on the Team: Kentucky has graduated Mollie Korth and will graduate Ella Warren next year—they are its two best bar workers. Bourque will be expected to follow in their footsteps and produce solid performances on this apparatus.

Balance Beam

  • Skills: BHS + LOSO + LOSO, switch leap half, front toss, double twist dismount
  • Results: first place at the 2019 Florida state meet
  • Margin of Improvement: She flexes her feet here and there and crosses her legs slightly on her dismount, but Bourque’s form on beam is excellent.
  • Impact on the Team: Kentucky’s current best beam worker, Josie Angeny, will have graduated the year Bourque gets to college. Bourque will be expected to replace her, though perhaps not in the anchor spot. She may get there one day, though.

Floor Exercise

  • Skills: full-twisting double back, double turn, 1.5 twist to front pike, double tuck
  • Results: fifth place at the 2019 Florida state meet
  • Margin of Improvement: Her landings are still a bit out of control, but her gymnastics is big and there is nothing more time won’t solve.
  • Impact on the Team: Four of Kentucky’s best floor workers in 2020 will have graduated by the time Bourque gets to Lexington. She will be expected to contribute to the lineup from the start.
