LIVE BLOG: Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics National Invitational Championship Team Final

It’s team final time—let’s get loud! We’re coming to you live from the Gold Dome on the campus of Centenary College of Louisiana, which is proudly celebrating its 200th year.

Tonight’s competition will run as a double dual format, giving fans a front-row seat to all the action. Each team will aim for four hit routines per rotation in pursuit of the national title.

The deciding factors? Stuck landings on vault, no-doubt handstands on bars, confident beam work, and powerful floor routines with well-controlled landings. Let’s crown a champion!

Rotation 1: West Chester VT, SEMO UB, Bridgeport BB, Texas Woman’s FX

Sullivan (WCU): Yurchenko layout, very open hips in the air with a step back.

Crouch (SEMO): Toe hand, Maloney, overshoot. Right on. Hit last HS. Toe on front pike half, step back.

Krenzel (UB): Liukin, perfection. Front aerial, BHS. She is eating this up. Beat, double stag jump. Love. Gainer front full, some extra squatting but held.

Upton (TWU): Rudi to open, a little slide-y on the landing. Switch side, popa, wolf full. Good amplitude. Double pike, right on. Front lay, front full. Great finish.

Carroll (WCU): Yurchenko layout, a baby shuffle back.

Hamilton (SEMO): Vault over mount. Right to HS, toe hand, Geinger, overshoot. FTDT, stuck. YESSSS. Get hype.

Hernandez (UB): BHS LOSO. Mhmm. Easy money. Front toss, beat. Smooth connection. Cat leap, switch side, a little under on the turn. Back 1.5 with a hop forward.

McFarland (WCU): Yurchenko tuck full with a hop forward.

Zarlengo (TWU): Double tuck, a bigger lunge to control the height. Back 1.5, front layout. Some leg crossing in the air. Good control.

Viles (UB): RO layout two feet. Small lean. Straddle, straddle 1/4. Back 1.5 with a hop.

Jones (SEMO): Blind, piked Jaeger. Overshoot right to HS. Short on last HS, Blind full double tuck. Step forward.

Harada (WCU): Yurchenko full with a hop back. Great height off the table.

Bourgeois (TWU): Double pike, a step forward into the lunge. Tour jete half, popa. Great extension in the leaps. Back 1.5 to front layout. Double tuck to finish.

Barry (UB): BHS LOSO, leg up. Rushed some but got it back quickly. Front aerial, split jump. Pretty. Switch leap, straddle 1/4. Some lack of straddle. Stuck front gainer full.

Johnston (SEMO): Toe hand, Maloney, pak. Pretty toe point. Blind full, double tuck. Stuck. On a roll.

Keane (WCU): Yurchenko layout, some pike in the air. A step back.

Isbell (TWU): Double tuck, a little under with a step forward. Switch half, wolf full. Shaping was on point. Back 1.5, front layout. Mild leg separation on the layout.

Ingle (SEMO): Blind, Jaeger. So high. Overshoot hand. Hit the last HS. Blind full, double tuck. Pauseeee, took a step.

Kenney (UB): Standing front, back tuck. Holy canoli. Wowzers. In shock. In awe. Cat leap, switch half, beat jump. She’s got this on lock. Double full with a baby hop.

Hernandez (TWU): Front through to double pike. Right to the lunge. Switch side half, straddle jump. Back 1.5, front layout. Dance right out.

Gruber (WCU): Stuck Yurchenko layout. She did one just the same in touch.

Hernandez (SEMO): Toe hand, Maloney, overshoot. Some elbow bend on the catch. Blind full, double tuck, small step back.

Imbarlina (UB): Front aerial, a waver. Reversing. Front aerial, BHS. Good on the repeat. Split, straddle 1/4. Switch leap, straddle 1/4. BHS back 1.5 with a step back.

Ghanbari (TWU): My jaw is on the floor. Double pike is stuck. I’m just going to go ahead a put my pen down. Switch side, wolf full. Front full… her legs gave out. So no connection pass. Double tuck is great.

After 1: Texas Woman’s 48.900, SEMO 48.825, Bridgeport 48.200, West Chester 47.250

Okay, so SEMO absolutely did everything they could on bars to open the meet. An uncharacteristic mistake from Ghanbari on floor kept the Pioneers from putting a bit more distance between themselves and the Redhawks after the first event. West Chester got through its lower scoring event, due to some lower start values, and will look to get things closer on bars. Bridgeport had a relatively strong showing on beam, highlighted by the insanely hard and perfectly executed routine from Abigail Kenney. Honestly, the scores seemed low to me on beam, so we’ll see if that trend continues throughout the meet. Onto the next one!

Rotation 2: VT, UB, BB, FX

Reid (TWU): Yurchenko full, nearly stuck with a baby shuffle back.

Vargo (WCU): Maloney, oversho9ot. Some leg form, straight to a toe hand. Toe hand, double tuck, far out with a step forward.

Reader (SEMO): Front toss from the knee, BHS. Right on. Hitch kick, switch side quarter. I have chills. Front toss, beat. A little low on the landing. Gainer pike, small step back.

Viles (UB): Back 1.5, front layout opening pass. Rudi, double stag. A little low on the jump. Switch side 1/4, straddle jump, not quite around.

Upton (TWU): Yurchenko full, hop with a step back.

Napolitano (SEMO): BHS BHS LOSO. We love a triple series. Straight down the beam. Tucked gainer full off the end, stuck. SEMO is absolutely carrying the momentum right now.

Harada (WCU): swing half, tkatchev. Overshoot hand, sole circle. Blind full, double tuck. Pulled in but just a step back.

King (TWU): Yurchenko full, a medium hop back. Strong positioning in the air.

Singletary (UB): Triple twist, dance it out. Switch leap, split jump. Needed some more head release on that leap. Wolf full, wolf full. Front full, front layout. Double tuck to finish. Right to the lunge. Put us on notice.

Kuehn (SEMO): BHS LOSO. Pristine. Switch side. Beat, straddle 3/4. A leg up and arm circle but saved. Double full dismount, a baby hop.

Ringas (WCU): Geinger from connection. Overshoot hand. Good last HS. Double layout, good shape. Stuck with a lean forward.

Caffey (TWU): A hop in place on the Yurchenko full today. Great layout and chest up position.

Vulchev (UB): Front double full, slightly under on rotation. Switch ring, switch half. Rudi, back tuck. Not enough rotation on the Rudi so mistimed the punch.

Parton (SEMO): Pretty lines on the BHS LOSO> Switch leap, double stag. Lean. Finessed it. Beat, split 3/4. Small scoot to get the rotation around. Gainer full, stuck.

Eskew (WCU): Clear hip, Geinger. Pak salto, pretty line in the air. blind full, double tuck. A step.

Isbell (TWU): A scoot back on the Yurchenko full. Great open hip position throughout.

Sepulveda (UB): Front through to back 2.5, front tuck. Just in bounds. Switch side half, straddle jump. Rudi, LOSO. Finessed the punch. Great correction midair. Blow the judges a kiss.

Hoiland (TWU): Yurchenko one and a half. A crossover step forward.

Coleman (WCU): Blind, Jaeger. Soooo far. Mistimed the release point. Overshoot. Clear hip, held it. Blind full, double tuck. Step forward.

Kossuth (SEMO): BHS BHS LOSO. Another one. Another HIT. Cat leap, switch side. Gainer full. Stuck. OMG.

Kenney (UB): Wolf 1.5. Back 2.5 is lovely. No leg crossing in the air. Front full, front tuck. Switch half, wolf full, popa. Great height. Rudi to finish.

Ingle (SEMO): BHS BHS LOSO. An ANCHOR. Switch leap, straddle 1/4. Small hop back on the double full dismount.

McGuinn (WCU): Overshoot to toe circle. Blind, Jaeger. Peeled off. So WCU will be counting a fall in this rotation. Swing half, toe front dismount. Knees weren’t quite ready and had to take another fall.

Coyle (UB): Rudi to double stag jump. Great amplitude. Switch side, wolf full. Tucked Rudi to double stag. Dancing with the teammates. As one does. Back 1.5, front pike. Ended a strong rotation for Bridgeport on floor.

After 2: Texas Woman’s 97.725, SEMO 97.550, Bridgeport 96.700, West Chester 94.275

Texas Woman’s put together a textbook vault rotation to maintain the lead. SEMO had itself a day on beam highlighted by two 9.8s at the end of the session to keep things close. Bridgeport kept building throughout that rotation to its lone 9.8 of Margaret Coyle. West Chester had some uncharacteristic mistakes on bars but will look to finish the meet strong.

Rotation 3: VT, UB, BB, FX

Singletary (UB): Yurchenko tuck full, medium step back. Good pop off the table.

Bourgeois (TWU): Okay…so we have a delay. We are still warming up. Bar issue.

Keane (WCU): BHS BHS LOSO. Some softness in the knees. Beat, split 3/4. Strong finish with the gainer dismount.

Hamilton (SEMO): Back 2.5. Her best of the weekend thus far. Back on the heels some on the combo pass. Back 1.5 front layout.

Walker (UB): A touch short on the Yurchenko layout full with a step forward.

We might be ready. Bourgeois (TWU): Blind, Jaeger. Great turnover. Right to HS, overshoot. FTDT. A small step.

Stoner (WCUO: Front toss, BHS. Great height on the toss. We love. Beat, split 3/4. Some arm circling to save. Front toss, beat. Gainer full with a step forward.

Phillips (SEMO): Double pike to open. Switch side popa. Front lay, front full. Dance it out. S-E-M-O! Back 1.5, front layout. Controlled well.

Hernandez (UB): Yurchenko layout full, some directionality and a step forward.

McGuinn (WCU): Candle stick mount. Switch leap, straddle 1/4. Front aerial, lifted her head too early. Front aerial, Back tuck. Right on. Medium step forward on the back 1.5.

Hunt (TWU): Casted over. Oh no. Blind, Jaeger. Missed it. Yikes. We NEED to drop this. We are going again. Missed again. What is happening? Pak salto. Legs gave out on the double tuck.

Kenney (UB): Yurchenko half on, front tuck off. Small hop.

Crouch (SEMO): Rudi, double stag. Back 1.5, front full. Controlled.

Marshall (WCU): BHS LOSO, and she’s off. Side aerial. Switch leap, gainer pike.

Sepulveda (UB): Yurchenko layout full. A little far out with a step forward.

Zarlengo (TWU): Blind, Jaeger in the piked position. Overshoot. A loose catch. Double layout, hop back.

Cascadden (WCU): Standing LOSO. Switch leap, straddle 1/4. BHS LOSO. Split 3/4 in connection. Moving right along. Back 1.5, a releve to hold the stick.

Staruk (UB): Tsuk full, a little lower than the one I saw in warm up. Had to take a step back.

Parton (SEMO): Double tuck. A little over with a slide back. Rudi, came in at a lower angle.

Ferrari (TWU): Blind, Jaeger. Love the way she swings. Such great rhythm. Blind straddle back. Stuck double layout. We’re back.

McFarland (WCU): Cat leap, side aerial. Lean. Switch leap, split half. Back 1.5 with a hop forward.

Bowns (TWU): Toe hand, Maloney, overshoot hand. Sole circle right to high. Blind full in HS. Double tuck. Stuck. ICE IN HER VEINS.

Greene (SEMO): Front layout, Rudi. Controlled well. Chest up. Tour jete half, wolf full, wolf full. Stuck double tuck. Definitely a redeeming routine from yesterday. And at the perfect time.

Hoiland (TWU): Vault over mount. Blind, piked Jaeger. CLOSE. Overshoot hand. Short last HS. Blind full, double tuck. Stuck. The way the rest of the lineup rallied should be a case study.

Ingle (SEMO): Launched that back 2.5 front tuck into the stratosphere. Front lay, Rudi. Switch half, popa. Pretty shaping in the air.

After 3: Texas Woman’s 146.850, SEMO 146.300, Bridgeport 145.125, West Chester 142.500

Texas Woman’s is a team full of FIGHTERS. The rest of the lineup absolutely hit following the fall in the second spot. SEMO was on fire on floor but couldn’t quite get past the 9.800 mark, so it wasn’t able to make up any ground on the Pioneers. Bridgeport kept things going on vault, highlighted by Abigail Kenney’s stunner vault. West Chester had a killer one-two punch of Cascadden and McFarland at the end of the rotation.

Rotation 4: SEMO VT, Bridgeport UB, Texas Woman’s BB, West Chester FX

Kossuth (SEMO): Stuck Yurchenko full. Way to close out a meet, ma’am. The celebration of the century down the vault runway. I love college gymnastics.

Reader (SEMO): Tucked Yurchenko full, could’ve had some more lift off the table.

Stoner (WCU): Rudi to open. Switch half, wolf 1.5. Snapped around. Back 1.5, front layout. Tuck full.

Isbell (TWU): BHS LOSO LOSO. So confident. Right to the end of the beam. Switch leap, split jump.

Solis (UB): Clear hip, Geinger. Overshoot hand. Blind full, double tuck. Held on a bit too long and had to take a larger step.

Hernandez (SEMO): Nearly stuck Yurchenko layout full, small left foot adjustment.

Kelly (WCU): Front lay, Rudi. OOB this time. Front lay, front full.

Brkljacic (TWU): BHS LOSO. Perfection. Switch, switch. Snapped the arms down to control the back leg. Front toss, beat. A touch slow on connection. Stuck BHS gainer full.

Kuehn (SEMO): Layout half with a step forward.

Nokes (UB): Blind full double tuck with a step back.

Keener (WCU): Front double full. Nice. Legs glued together. Switch half connection. Back 1.5, front layout. Smooth.

Hernandez (TWU): BHS LOSO. Switch leap, switch half, beat. Easy. TWU is BEAMing. BHS, back 1.5 dismount. Nailed it. They want that NATTY.

Pujals (UB): Maloney. Toe hand, pak salto. Great distance from the bar. Blind full, double tuck.

Greene (SEMO): Stuck Yurchenko full. Way to finish a career. Loved it.

Cascadden (WCU): Wolf 1.5. snapped around. Double pike with a pogo landing. Front lay, front full. Back 1.5, front tuck. Great finish.

King (TWU): Small check on the BHS LOSO. Front tuck. The end of the beam keeps popping off. Bless it. Switch leap, straddle 1/4. Back 1.5 with a hop forward.

Ingle (SEMO): Another absolutely nailed vault for SEMO.

Hernandez (UB): Toe hand, Maloney. Swing, pak. Swing. Pirouette. Double layout. A few extra swings in there.

Sullivan (WCU): Rudi to double stag. Switch side half, straddle jump. Some lack of split. Am I dancing along? Maybe… Definitely. Front lay, front full. Way to finish.

FINAL: Texas Woman’s 196.175, SEMO 195.025, Bridgeport 193.600, West Chester 190.850

WOWOWOWOW. Texas Woman’s absolutely put an exclamation point on its night, scoring 49.325 on beam in the final rotation. The Pioneers were the head and shoulders winners tonight. SEMO posted a season high of its own, following several stuck vault landings. Bridgeport redeemed itself from its bars performance a day ago, showing what the Purple Knights are made of. West Chester finished the meet strongly on floor but could not overcome its slow start.
