Kamila Pawlak competes at the Nastia Liukin cup

Nastia Liukin Cup Series Recap: Week 1

This year’s Nastia Liukin Cup Series will comprise 22 meets, each of which will qualify one senior gymnast (aged 17 and older) and one junior (16 and younger) to the 16th Nastia Liukin Cup in Louisville, Kentucky, on February 25.

The series started this week with the Alamo Classic and the Brestyan’s Invitational.

Alamo Classic

Winner (senior division): Kamila Pawlak

Winner (junior division): Jordyn Johnson

Oklahoma signee and number-one rated recruit in the class of 2025, Kamila Pawlak has punched her ticket to the championship for the fourth year in a row. She had an excellent day, earning a 39.075 in the all-around, the exact score gained by the winner of last year’s Nastia Liukin Cup, Kailin Chio. Her strong performance saw her place first on three events, including a huge score of 9.975 on bars.

Jordyn Johnson, in the class of 2026, qualified in the junior division with a very respectable 38.175. She beat out World Champion Center’s Brooke Reingold by a tenth, with her best performance coming on floor for a 9.700. Make sure to look out for her impressive split leg double layout. Johnson qualified to last year’s NLC, placing fourth with a 37.800

Brestyan’s Invitational

Winner (senior division): Sophia Diaz

Winner (junior division): Paige Alexander

Another 2025 five-star recruit qualified to the Nastia Liukin Cup with the No. 3 all-around score of 2024 so far. For Sophia Diaz, a Michigan commit, the Nastia Liukin Cup was a gap in a remarkable resume: she has never qualified before, but will immediately become one of the strongest contenders for the title. In a strong senior field featuring numerous Division I gymnastics commits, including fellow Michigan commit Peyton Davis, Diaz qualified more than a point ahead of the competition.

Paige Alexander, of the class of 2026, scored a remarkable 38.575 to qualify out of a close-fought junior field. Like Diaz, this will be her first Nastia Cup, but her qualifying score should stand up very well as the junior field develops.
