LIVE BLOG: No. 14 Georgia at No. 7 Auburn

Going into this season, Auburn would have been the heavy favorite in this matchup. While the Tigers are still the favorite here, it is much closer than anticipated. Georgia outscored Auburn last weekend, and will be looking to push the Tigers at home and record its first away 197 of the season. Auburn gave its all-arounders five days off the week of the Missouri matchup and then rested Cassie Stevens, Sunisa Lee and Derrian Gobourne on select events which led to a season low team score that the team will be looking to bounce back from at home. Auburn is in jeopardy of falling in the rankings and will look for a near 198 to keep close to UCLA and California.

Georgia showed that it can be a beam and floor team at home last week and will be looking for big scores in both rotations on the road. Keep an eye on the upperclassman in the beam lineup as Josie Angeny, Haley De Jong and Vanessa Deniz all scored season highs last week. Sticking with the beam, Sunisa Lee had a fall on the event last week and will be looking to bounce back with a strong routine here.

Rotation 1: Auburn vault, Georgia bars

So the stream time says 7:34, but it hasn’t started for me yet.

Groth (AUB): My stream hasn’t started yet, but she got a 9.825 on her full.

Cashman (UGA): 9.75 to start.

Hubbard (AUB): 9.9

Angeny (UGA): 9.825

Hollingsworth (AUB): The stream finally started. A large step forward and a little offside on her 1.5. 9.825

Howard (UGA): Bent elbows on the catch of the Church and soft in the overshoot. Under rotated on the dismount and took a step forward. 9.75

Lee (AUB): The smallest slide on the half on half off. It looks like she was trying to keep her legs straighter on the block, but they still bent too soon. 9.95

Scott (UGA): Legs together on the Maloney to Pak. Small hop forward on the double layout dismount after a solid last handstand. 9.775

Stevens (AUB): Was a little off to the side on the table which led her a little offline and took a hop forward on her 1.5. Soft knees throughout. 9.875

Finnegan (UGA): Bent elbows on the catch of the Ray, but good turnover. Leg separation on the Pak. Stuck the dismount. 9.825

Gobourne (AUB): Small hop to the side on her 1.5. Good dynamics. 9.9

De Jong (UGA): Shortish first handstand. Good Maloney and slightly short on the bail. Hop back on the double layout dismount. 9.85

After 1: Auburn 49.450, Georgia 49.025

That was one of the best vault rotations for Auburn so far this year even though I missed the first two vaults. The Tigers will be wanting to bring that energy through the rest of the meet. Georgia had some close catches on releases and steps on dismounts that kept the scoring modest in that rotation.

Rotation 2: Georgia vault, Auburn bars

De Jong (UGA): Stuck Yurchenko full there. Good open hips and flair out. 9.9

Sabados (AUB): Big Ray maybe close catch. Waiver in the bail. Slightly short on the last handstand and took a hop back on the double layout dismount. 9.725

Finnegan (UGA): Another strong full with great body position and legs together. Just a small slide back. 9.825

Groth (AUB): Good Ray. Clean Pak salto. Might have been a little short on the last handstand. Good finish position on the giant full and stuck the double tuck dismount. Nice toepoint. 9.825

Angeny (UGA): Tried to disguise that stick on the full, but was leaning forward and had to step forward into that salute. 9.85

Brusch (AUB): This is her first bars routine since offseason shoulder surgery. Leg separation on the Maloney and hit the bail. Short on the final handstand. Hop back on the double layout dismount. 9.9

Cashman (UGA): The least controlled landing of a full so far. Pretty sizable hop back. 9.825

Stevens (AUB): Big Ray. Short on the bail. Almost stuck the double layout and ended up sliding back in the salute. 9.775

Howard (UGA): Slight foot movement on the landing of full. Good body position. Slightly offline with one foot on the line. 9.925

Gobourne (AUB): Big tkatchev to pak salto. Some feet. Stuck the FTDT dismount with her typical slight stagger. 9.95

Hawthorne (UGA): Step off to the side and over the line on her 1.5. Great dynamics. 9.875

Lee (AUB): Might have been slightly short on the first cast. Beautiful as always jaeger to pak to Maloney to geinger. Slide on the salute of the dismount. 9.95

After 2: Auburn 98.850, Georgia 98.400

Georgia had some great landings over on vault and maximized the scoring potential on the fulls in the lineup. Auburn was missing some of the details on bars today, but Gobourne and Lee saved the score in that rotation. It was great to see Brusch back in the lineup as well as she will be a key contributor there in the post season.

Rotation 3: Auburn beam, Georgia floor

Hollingsworth (AUB): Hollingsworth had a rough routine last week so this can be a bounce back. Strong loso series. Held on the the switch half to split jump to beat jump. Sloid side aerial. Stuck the gainer full. Great bounce back routine. 9.875

Hahn (UGA): Front double full to open. Keeps the step forward in bounds. Good control on the back 1.5 to front layout. Could use more height in the layout. Wolf double. Nice leads. Slides the front foot back on the Rudi landing. 9.75

Brusch (AUB): Waiver on the full turn. Smooth connection on the front aerial to split jump. Holds the loso series. Was a little off center. Strong switch to straddle quarter. Sticks the gainer full. 9.85

Williams (UGA): Good control on the opening double pike. The switch side to Popa was around. Off on the front full to front layout and has to arch the second salto. Controlled the lunge on the double tuck. 9.8

Stevens (AUB): Lifted up the front leg after the loso series. The split jump to stag was hit. Good Stevens and wolf turn. Hop forward on the back 1.5 dismount. 9.7

Elsadek (UGA): Chest forward on the landing of the full in and slightly hopped forward. Triple leap series was solid. Mistimed the front tuck through to double tuck and lands the double tuck on her knees. It looks like she is ok though. 8.9

Groth (AUB): Waiver at the end of her bhs loso bhs series. Great switch half to split jump. Nice full turn. Took a small step back and across on the sider aerial back tucked 1.5. 9.775

Cashman (UGA): Crossover step out of the back 1.5 to front full. Switch side half to straddle jump had good extension. Good landing on the double tuck with a slight hop to lunge. 9.825

McLaughlin (AUB): Foot shift in between the switch leap and loso series, but it was slight. Solid beat to side aerial. Clean switch to straddle quarter. Great positions. Stuck the gainer pike dismount. 9.875. 9.8/9.95 split

De Jong (UGA): Big Rudi to loso. Around on the switch side to wolf full. Bounced and did a 180 degree turn in the air in the landing of her triple full. She almost went out of bounds, but if looks like she stayed in bounds. 9.75

The camera points to the Clemson coach and team in the stands.

Lee (AUB):Great double wolf. Shoulder dip after the switch to switch half. Right on during the siade aerial loso loso. Sticks the bhs gainer full dismount. 9.85

Hawthorne (UGA): Short on the double layout and has to step forward. Low and short on rotation on the second jump in her combo. The split jump had some arm waves at the end of the front layout to Rudi to split jump. 9.825

After 3: Auburn 148.075, Georgia 147.350

Auburn’s beam rotation started out really well with one of the best routines of the year from Hollingsworth and then the rest of the lineup was unable to capitalize with hesitations. The Tigers won’t get that 198, but can still improve its NQS with a strong floor rotation. Georgia would have been looking for a score over 197 here, and likely won’t get that either.

Rotation 4: Georgia beam, Auburn floor

Howard (UGA): Solid loso series. beat to switch half. Switch half might have been slightly short. Hit the side aerial. Stuck the bhs gainer full dismount. Some feet. 9.875

Brusch (AUB): Slight shift of the front foot on the landing of the front tuck through to double tuck. Big amplitude on the leaps. A little low chest on the double pike, but controlled the landing. 9.85

Scott (UGA): Clean through the front handspring and bhs but falls on the loso. Came back strong. Underrotated on the fhs front full dismount and takes a step back. 9.075

Groth (AUB): Clean landing on the front double full. Around on the leaps. Great control on the back 1.5 to front layout. Strong Rudi to end and controls the landing. 9.9

Moran (UGA): Hits the double wolf. Waivers in the switch to beat jumps, but does not give up a check. Falls on the side aerial to bhs series. Stuck the ro 1.5 with an arm circle. Georgia will be counting a fall on beam. 9.25

Hollingsworth (AUB): Beautiful full out to open. Takes the lunge and then picks up the front foot a little. Great height on her leaps. Controlled landing on the front tuck through to double tuck. 9.9

Angeny (UGA): Hit the bhs loso loso series. The spacing of the elements was strange. Clean on the switch to beat jump. Hop back on the bhs to back 1.5. 9.85

Stevens (AUB): Controls the lunge on the opening front layout to Rudi. Around on the leaps. A little under on the double tuck with a low chest and lunges forward. 9.85

Deniz (UGA): Very controlled full turn to open. Solid side aerial to bhs. Hits the front aerial to jump. Nice jump combo. Sticks the gainer tucked full with a lean. 9.9

Lee (AUB): She opens with the double double and lands really low and takes multiple steps forward. Clean switch ring to split full. Controlled the back 1.5 to front full. 9.725

De Jong (UGA): Strong switch to straddle quarter. Leans on the front aerial, but still connects it to the split jump. Hit the loso series. Hop forward on the bhs back 1.5 dismount. 9.85

Gobourne (AUB): Big open double tuck and might have slid the front foot. Controls the leaps. Great front full front layout. Controls the lunge on the double pike to end. 9.95

FINAL: Auburn 197.550, Georgia 196.075

Georgia having to count a fall on beam, as well as small mistakes throughout the week hurt the total here. This will not improve Georgia’s NQS. Auburn will be able to drop a 197.175 from the home opener even though the last two rotations were less than ideal for the Tigers.

VT: Lee 9.95
UB: Gobourne, Lee 9.95
BB: McLaughlin, Deniz 9.9
FX: Gobourne 9.95
AA: Lee 39.475
