About Ilka
Juk is an international elite who competed for Canada and now represents Hungary. She competed at the International Gymnix every year from 2016 to 2020, winning a bronze medal on vault in 2019. That same year, she also competed at the Hungarian championships, qualifying to the beam final, as well as at Elite Canada, Elite Gym Massilia in Marseille, France, and at the Heerenveen Friendly in the Netherlands. In 2020 she competed at the Lady Luck Invitational as a level 10, tying for silver on floor and finishing fourth in the all around. She was the alternate to Hungary’s 2019 world championships team.
What She Brings to LIU
Vault
- Skill: Yurchenko full
- Results: third place at the 2019 International Gymnix
- Margin of Improvement: Juk performs a decent vault. However, it lacks in height and amplitude.
- Impact on the Team: It is early to draw conclusions on the very young LIU team, but it seems likely that vault will be the apparatus on which the Sharks will welcome any help next year. Juk is not the strongest vaulter, but her Yurchenko full could contribute to the lineup.
Uneven Bars
- Skills: Maloney to Pak salto, double pike dismount
- Results: fourth place at the 2020 Lady Luck Invitational
- Margin of Improvement: Juk has potential on bars, but her form is a bit loose, most notably on her Pak and her dismount. She is working on the details, though.
- Impact on the Team: LIU will likely need some extra help on bars next year. This is not Juk’s best apparatus but she could contribute.
Balance Beam
- Skills: BHS + BHS + LOSO, switch leap to switch leap half to beat jump, front aerial, full turn in back attitude, Gainer tuck dismount
- Results: 2019 Hungarian championship finalist
- Margin of Improvement: This is Juk’s pet event. She has some soft knees and flexed feet on her acrobatic series, but her form is overall good and she shows off her gorgeous flexibility here.
- Impact on the Team: LIU has a lot of potential on beam, but Juk could still make the difference.
Floor Exercise
- Skills: double turn in back attitude, double pike, switch ring to switch leap half, front pike to front pike, double twist
- Results: tied second place at the 2020 Lady Luck Invitational
- Margin of Improvement: Tumbling-wise, Juk does not perform the most difficult passes, but her double turn raises her start value and is beautiful. Her dancing ability is also elegant and engaging to watch.
- Impact on the Team: As with vault and bars, Juk does not especially stand out here but she could help stabilize a currently nervous lineup.
