The Mount: Week Six WAG

It’s officially February, and we’re getting closer and closer to RQS. There’s another exciting lineup of meets slated for this weekend, and you don’t want to miss a second. As always, you’ll find everything you need to follow along with all the meets happening this weekend, including previews of the top matchups, Fantasy Gymnastics resources and every scoring and video link you could ever need.

Can’t-Miss Matchups

No. 12 Auburn at No. 2 Florida

When You Need to Tell Your Friends You’re Busy: Friday, February, 8 at 7 p.m. ET (SECN)

Why You Should Cancel Plans For It: Two surging teams. Two undefeated records. Two of the top freshmen in the SEC if not the entire country. There are countless reasons to tune into this meet, but one of the most compelling is the fact that it has the potential to determine the SEC regular season conference title. There’s also a considerable likelihood of 10s since Florida has yet to score one this season, even after coming off a 198-plus score at Oklahoma last week. The Gators should enjoy a nice welcome back to Gainesville in that respect.

Routines to Avoid Going to the Bathroom During: Alicia Boren (Florida, FX), Samantha Cerio (Auburn, UB), Jada Glenn (Auburn, VT), Derrian Gobourne (Auburn, FX), Rachel Gowey (Florida, BB), Trinity Thomas (Florida, UB)

What Else You Should Know Before Tuning In: It is the Gators’ annual Link to Pink meet for breast cancer awareness.

No. 18 Minnesota at No. 16 Nebraska

When You Need to Tell Your Friends You’re Busy: Saturday, February 9 at 6 p.m. ET (ESPNU)

Why You Should Cancel Plans For It: Minnesota has had two high-196 meets in a row and is sitting at No. 3 in the Big Ten. Nebraska is No. 2 and has put up the only 197 in the conference so far. The Huskers, however, had two rocky outings bookending that high mark. If the Gophers can win in Lincoln, it will say a lot about the teams we talk about as potential upsets to Michigan’s historical dominance in the conference championship. Nebraska’s 197 came the last time the team competed at home. An added bonus? The all around battle between Lexy Ramler and Taylor Houchin will be intense.

Routines to Avoid Going to the Bathroom During: Lexy Ramler (Minn., VT, UB, BB), Paige Williams (Minn., FX), Ivy Lu (Minn., UB), Ona Loper (Minn., VT, BB), Taylor Houchin (UNL, VT, UB, FX), Sienna Crouse (UNL, VT, UB), Megan Schweihofer (UNL, BB, FX), Adnerys De Jesus (UNL, VT, FX)

What Else You Should Know Before Tuning In: Lexy Ramler competed her Yurchenko one and a half last weekend for the first time since J.O.

Meets You Didn’t Know You Should Be Interested In

No. 20 Ohio State at No. 35 Maryland

When the Meet’s Happening: Friday, February 8 at 7 p.m. ET

Why You Should See the Error of Your Ways: The Battle of the Bars! Ohio State (No. 13) and Maryland (No. 19) have put up stellar bar rotations this season. Keep an eye on that event especially. Ohio State has been an away powerhouse this year. It’s lowest score, a 195.000, came in its home opener last weekend. Previously, the Buckeyes put up three consecutive 196s on the road. Can they do it again in College Park? Maryland is coming off of a season-high 195.275 and will look to overtake the cruising Buckeyes.

Routines to Look Up on YouTube Before the Meet That Prove Our Point: Claire Gagliardi (tOSU, FX), Olivia Aepli (tOSU, UB, BB), Jamie Stone (tOSU, VT, FX), Audrey Barber (UMD, FX), Alexis Rubio (UMD, VT), Collea Burgess (UMD, VT, BB), Emilie LeBlanc (UMD, UB)

No. 36 Pittsburgh at No. 28 N.C. State

When the Meet’s Happening: Saturday, February 9 at 4 p.m. ET

Why You Should See the Error of Your Ways: This should be a great EAGL matchup between two similarly ranked opponents. N.C. State is coming off its second straight 195 on the road and will look to continue that momentum at home. Pitt has gotten off to a solid start but will be looking to improve upon its rough outing last week and break back into the 195s.

Routines to Look Up on YouTube Before the Meet That Prove Our Point: Lucy Brett (Pitt, UB, BB), Brittany West (Pitt, BB), Kiley Robatin (Pitt, BB), Alecia Petrikis (Pitt, FX), Charli Spivey (Pitt, FX), Nicole Webb (NC State, BB), Alexa Phillips (NC State, FX), Maggie Tamburro (NC State, UB), Drew Grantham (NC State, VT, FX)

No. 34 UC Davis at No. 60 Alaska

When the Meet’s Happening: Saturday, February 9 at 6 p.m. ET

Why You Should See the Error of Your Ways: This is Alaska’s senior night, and it will be fascinating to see how the surging Seawolves close out their home season after a January for the record books. UC Davis has had an excellent start to the season and is dominating the MPSF so far this year, but when it hosted Alaska two weeks ago, it had a difficult meet at home and beat the Seawolves by only two tenths. So despite the ranking differential, this meet might not be totally one-sided.

Routines to Look Up on YouTube Before the Meet That Prove Our Point: Isabelle Fox (UAA, VT), Sophia Hyderally (UAA, BB), Mackenzie Miller (UAA, UB), Kelley Hebert (UCD, FX), Aya Suzuki (UCD, UB), Yasmine Yektaparast (UCD, BB)

No. 44 Bridgeport, No. 48 Temple and No. 27 West Virginia at No. 58 Penn

When the Meet’s Happening: Sunday, February 10 at 1 p.m. ET

Why You Should See the Error of Your Ways: All four of these teams are ones to watch this season. Bridgeport has already broken the 195 barrier and will want to build on that score even more. Temple started 2019 inconsistent but is coming off two straight scores over 194 and an upset win over Pitt and North Carolina. Look for the Owls to continue this newfound success. Penn has gotten off to a slow start but bested its season high by over a point in its home opener last weekend, and West Virginia scored a season high in its last meet and will look to continue that momentum on the road as we inch closer to RQS taking over in week eight.

Routines to Look Up on YouTube Before the Meet That Prove Our Point: Kirah Koshinski (WVU, VT, FX), Rachel Hornung (WVU, FX), Monica Servidio (Temple, BB), India Anderson (Temple, FX), Jaylene Everett (Temple, FX), Maya Reimers (Bridgeport, FX), Kathryn Doran (Bridgeport, UB), Caroline Moore (Penn, BB)

Meets You Should at Least Record and Watch Later

No. 14 California at No. 4 Utah

When to Find It on the TV Guide: Saturday, February 9 at 3 p.m. ET

Why You Should Clear Space on Your DVR: This Pac-12 matchup is more compelling than meets the eye, mostly for the potential both teams bring on vault. Utah is ranked second on the event and should compete handily with Cal’s various 10.0 starts, especially in front of a packed Huntsman crowd.

Routines to Check Out If You Can’t Rewatch Everything: Milan Clausi (Cal, FX), Kyana George (Cal, FX), MaKenna Merrell-Giles (Utah, FX), Adrienne Randall (Utah, BB), Nina Schank (Cal, UB), MyKayla Skinner (Utah, AA)

No. 1 Oklahoma at No. 7 Denver

When to Find It on the TV Guide: Sunday, February 10 at 4 p.m. ET

Why You Should Clear Space on Your DVR: It’s a showdown between the top two teams in the Big 12 and even being held in Denver’s larger venue, Magness Arena, instead of Hamilton Gymnasium—the excitement level is out of this world. Oklahoma remains one of the top teams in the country after the first five weeks of competition, and Denver is coming off of its own program record 197.450 at West Virginia. Oklahoma should have the edge in this matchup, but Denver is an exciting team to watch nonetheless. On the injury front, Sooner Maggie Nichols has been limited the past two weeks while nursing a bruised heel.

Routines to Check Out If You Can’t Rewatch Everything: Maggie Nichols (OU, UB, BB), Brenna Dowell (OU, FX), Nicole Lehrmann (OU, UB), Olivia Trautman (OU, FX), Maddie Karr (DU, VT, UB), Lynnzee Brown (DU, VT, FX), Alexis Vasquez (DU, BB), Kaitlyn Schou (DU, BB)

No. 3 UCLA at No. 15 Washington

When to Find It on the TV Guide: Sunday, February 10 at 6 p.m. ET

Why You Should Clear Space on Your DVR: These two teams haven’t had a dual meet since 2016, and the last time UCLA was in Seattle it counted mistakes that almost caused an upset win for the Huskies. Both teams have improved a great deal since that meet, and we’re hoping UCLA can liven up the often passive Seattle crowd.

Routines to Check Out If You Can’t Rewatch Everything: Katelyn Ohashi (UCLA, FX), Kyla Ross (UCLA, UB), Madison Kocian (UCLA, UB), Sekai Wright (UCLA, VT), Malory Rose (UW, BB), Evanni Roberson (UW, BB), Maya Washington (UW, FX)
