Let’s just say the scores flew into the stratosphere this weekend and leave it at that. With a plethora of season highs, some DII teams out-showing their DI competition and the switch to RQS, there’s a lot to recap. SO catch up on the 40+ meets, individual results and more.
No. 10 Georgia, No. 2 LSU, No. 15 Missouri, No. 1 Oklahoma at GYMQuarters Invite
Full Results | OU: 198.350 | LSU: 197.700 | UGA: 196.975 | Mizzou: 196.350
VT: Nichols, Dowell 9.975 | UB: Nichols 9.975 | BB: Nichols 10.000 | FX: Gnat, Jackson, Nichols 9.975 | AA: Nichols 39.925Another week of NCAA gymnastics, another week of the Maggie Nichols show. The freshman destroyed another school record again, scoring a huge 39.925 in the all-around with another 10.000 on beam and three 9.975 on the other events. We are inching closer and closer to that perfect 40.000, you guys. Led by Nichols, the Sooners dominated this meet, with a gymnast winning or sharing an event title. Sophomore Brenna Dowell stuck her Yurchenko 1.5 and was awarded a 10.000 from one judge, while junior A.J. Jackson received one as well for her amazing floor routine. The LSU Tigers had a strong evening as well and scored their second 197.700 in a row. Freshman Kennedi Edney continued to dazzle in the all-around and put up a 39.550 there. Junior leader Myia Hambrick had a bit of an off-night and recorded falls on beam and floor, but the team had her back. Senior Ashleigh Gnat continued to be her consistent and

amazing self and received a 9.925 or higher, including a 9.975 on floor, on the three events she competed on. The Gymdogs posted their best road score of the season so far, highlighted by a strong performance on balance beam, of all events! The Gymdogs actually hung on to second place for the first two rotations, making this meet even more exciting than it already was. Sophomore Sydney Snead was finally back on vault and bars to the delight of us gym nerds, and she rocked it. We certainly hope to see her back in the all-around for the postseason. Freshman Rachel Dickson had a wonderful all-around performance and showed us that the future is bright for Georgia. Finally, Mizzou posted its season best with a 196.350, showing us that this team has some depth and is doing just fine after losing its leader Morgan Porter a few weeks ago. The Tigers outscored or tied Georgia on vault and bars, but sadly lost ground on floor exercise when they were forced to count a 9.675.
No. 20 George Washington, No. 22 Iowa at No. 2 LSU
Full Results | LSU: 197.975 | GWU: 196.100 | Iowa: 194.200
VT: Edney 9.950 | UB: Priessman 9.950 | BB: Finnegan 9.950 | FX: Kelley 9.975 | AA: Winstanley 39.350LSU followed up its strong performance at the GymQUARTERS Invitational with a season-high score at home—from its B squad! While resting a number of key players, including Ashleigh Gnat on floor, Myia Hambrick on vault and floor and Kennedi Edney on beam, the team still tallied

49.500 or higher on three events for a 197.975. But the real standout was vault for the Tigers. The lineup, which included a whopping five 10.0 start value vaults, featured true sticks from Ruby Harrold, Kennedi Edney and Sydney Ewing on their Yurchenko 1.5s. The success only continued on the remaining events. George Washington also performed well, notching a 196.100 on the road and redeeming itself from its loss to Iowa Friday night. Jillian Winstanley also claimed the all around title thanks to her 9.925 on vault, which tied her for second on the event. The Hawkeyes had more trouble, only managing a 194.200 after a rough bar rotation to end the meet.
No. 49 Bridgeport, No. 32 Utah State at No. 4 UCLA
Full Results | UCLA: 195.875 | USU: 195.700 | Bridgeport: 193.225
VT: Ross 9.900 | UB: Lee 9.950 | BB: Ross 10.000 | FX: Ohashi, Toronjo 9.900 | AA: Ross 39.225You could guess coming in that UCLA would use this meet to rest big names, seeing as it was the second meet of the weekend. Madison Kocian only performed on two events and Hallie Mossett and Angi Cipra took a break from floor. But that gave the opportunity for some new faces to see competition time, including Macy

Toronjo, Grace Kramer and Kyla Ross on floor. However, only Toronjo was successful as Kramer and Ross as well as JaNay Honest fell on the event in the last rotation, bringing what could have been a great score for the Bruins, back down to average levels. The first part of the meet was stellar, though, as the team tallied five 9.9s or higher on the first three events—Ross’ 9.900 on vault, 9.925 on bars and perfect 10 on beam; Peng-Peng Lee’s 9.950 on bars and Katelyn Ohashi’s 9.950 on beam. Utah State and Bridgeport each impressed fans with their unique and difficult gymnastics. Aggie Madison Ward and Purple Knight Brianna Comporte were both delights on floor.
No. 4 UCLA at No. 5 Utah
Full Results | Utah: 197.875 | UCLA: 197.500
VT: Skinner 9.925 | UB: Ross 10.000 | BB: Ohashi, Kocian 9.950 | FX: Merrell, Rowe, Skinner 9.950 | AA: Skinner 39.675This was one of the most anticipated match-ups of the weekend and of the PAC-12 conference, and it certainly did not disappoint. The Utes certainly delivered in front of their home crowd, albeit rowdy, and put up strong performances on all four events. They closed the meet very strongly by scoring four 9.95s on floor, and with

a near-flawless performance from freshman Mykayla Skinner. Despite facing a few travel struggles, the Bruins started off strong on the uneven bars with freshman Kyla Ross scoring her second 10.0 of the season on the event. The Bruins appeared a bit tight on the other three events as they made uncharacteristic mistakes and were unable to find their landings, especially on vault and floor. It also seemed that the team may have been affected by the crowd’s reactions, which appeared to be booing the Bruins’ scores on balance beam. While the scoring was overall laughable and made us roll our eyes so hard we saw our brains, the Utes were undoubtedly the stronger team that night and definitely put on a show for their fans.
No. 3 Florida at No. 23 Arkansas
Full Results | UF: 197.125 | Arkansas: 195.200
VT: Boren, Slocum 9.925 | UB: McMurtry 9.975 | BB: Gowey 9.900 | FX: Boren 9.950 | AA: Boren 39.500The first of the SEC’s primetime meets Friday night saw big scores for Florida, but also some signs of fatigue. A fall on beam from Kennedy Baker and a major break from Amanda Cheney completely changed the mood in the meet, forcing a major pressure situation on the final four gymnasts of the rotation. They pulled through though, with the highlight being Rachel

Gowey’s event-winning 9.9. Alex McMurtry debuted her floor routine with some difficulty, only doing a double twist in place of her usual triple and putting her hands down on her last pass. She’ll hope for a better showing at next week’s meet against Missouri. Arkansas, on the other hand, kept an even keel, continuing to improve slowly and steadily. Jessica Yamzon went 39.3 for a personal best in the all around, and the team set a season high on floor at 49.325. They’ll look to continue to press forward in the coming weeks, though they’ll be on the road two weeks in a row.
No. 17 Auburn at No. 6 Alabama
Full Results | Alabama: 197.350 | Auburn: 196.450
VT: Winston, Rott 9.875 | UB: Engler 9.900 | BB: Guerrero 9.975 | FX: Winston 9.925 | AA: Winston 39.500Auburn may have scored a high for the season, but it still wasn’t enough to outlast longtime rival Alabama in its second matchup this season. The Tigers did perform better than in previous meets though, posting totals higher than 49 on each of the four events with MJ Rott claiming a share of the vault title and Emma Engler winning bars. Alabama didn’t have a standout meet, but it was solid nevertheless. Kiana Winston shared the vault title with Rott and also won floor and the all around. But it was Nickie Guerrero that brought the house down with her stellar beam in the third rotation, sticking her dismount and nearly crying with glee before her score of a 9.975 was even posted. The team faces some adversity during the meet, though as Aja Sims peeled off the bar and was sat out of the rest of the meet as a precaution because she was scoring high on concussion protocol. However, Wynter Childers stepped into her place on many of the events and performed well for a rookie, posting a 39.300 in her first all around

competition and a 9.850 for her first floor routine. She also had a 9.850 on vault and 9.825 on bars.
No. 7 Boise State at No. 32 Utah State
Full Results | Boise State: 196.700 | USU: 196.300
VT: Stockwell 9.900 | UB: McGregor 9.900 | BB: Mejia, Oster, Means 9.900 | FX: Ward 9.900 | AA: McGregor 39.250Boise State continued its great season with another solid road score. However, it won’t be satisfied with the result as it was on its way to another road 197 before having to count a 9.625 on beam in the last rotation took that away. It is still a solid and useable score, though, as the Broncos move into RQS and the second half of the season. Utah State also showed up to the

meet in great form, nailing its routines for a 196.300—the team’s fifth-highest score in program history.
No. 34 N.C. State at No. 8 Michigan
Full Results | UM: 197.225 | N.C. State: 193.225
VT: McLean 9.975 | UB: Zaziski 9.950 | BB: Chiarelli 9.925 | FX: McLean 9.900 | AA: Karas 39.375Michigan continued to prove it’s a good team at home. However, that’s not what it needs at this point as there are still road scores to drop. But that wasn’t something the WOlverines could control in this meet. Emma McLean competed her Yurchenko 1.5 for the first time Friday night, notching a huge and near-perfect 9.975 for her stick. She followed up the performance with a

9.9 on floor. Talia Chiarelli and Paige Zaziski also nailed their best events, posting a 9.925 and 9.950, respectively. N.C. State had another outing, turning the rest of its season into a “must hit to make regionals” rather than a potential conference championship title goal. With struggles on bars in particular, the Wolfpack will need to clean the event up if it wants to finish the regular season in the top 36.
No. 9 Kentucky, No. 62 Penn, No. 63 William & Mary at No. 41 Maryland

VT: Korth 9.950 | UB: Nee, Levi, Cullen, Farina 9.825 | BB: Hyland 9.900 | FX: Farina, Brauckmuller 9.875 | AA: Dukes 39.225Kentucky entered the day with the opportunity to continue the home success and turn the road meet slump around. However, things didn’t go as planned as the Wildcats continued to struggle on the road, counting a bars fall and having other errors here and there to take away a 196 score

heading into RQS reshifting. Mollie Korth showed she was human with one of the bars falls, but bounced back, scoring a whopping 9.950 on vault to lead the team. Alex Hyland, now ranked in the top five in the country on beam, scored a 9.900 on the event to lead the meet. Maryland also did well, posting yet another 195. Penn followed with a solid 193 and William & Mary wrapped up the meet in fourth with a high 192.
