BREAKING: McMurry University to Add Gymnastics

McMurry University will add both women’s and men’s gymnastics to its athletic programs, the university announced Tuesday. The programs are set to begin in 2027, with competition beginning in the 2028 season. The university is currently conducting a search for a head coach, targeting a summer 2026 hire so it can hit the ground running with recruiting and program development.

“This new program reflects McMurry’s strategic commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for student involvement and competition,” Chief Operating Officer Dr. Grant Greenwood said in the announcement. “We are intentionally building this program from the ground up, with a focus on long-term success and strong leadership.”

The university is a small private university located in Abilene, Texas, and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Its athletic programs compete in NCAA Division III.

Additional details regarding facilities, recruiting, and program development will be shared by the university as they become available.
