BYU announced Wednesday that it will not be renewing the contract of head coach Guard Young. Young has served as the Cougars’ head coach since 2015. In a statement, BYU thanked Young for his years of service to the program, but cited a desire to find a head coach to “take BYU gymnastics to the next level”. BYU will immediately begin a nationwide search for its next head coach.
The news comes off of BYU’s elimination in the Tempe regional semifinal. The Cougars finished the regular season ranked at No. 24, earning its best national ranking since 2021. BYU came third at the Big 12 Championships and notched a season high of 197.225 against Clemson.
Prior to his coaching career, Young was a member of the men’s gymnastics program at BYU, earning two individual national championships as a Cougar. He was inducted into the BYU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.
This is a developing story, we will continue to update as more information becomes available.
