Double-Meet Weekend Doubles-Down on Perfect Score
With multiple athletes scoring multiple 10s throughout the most popular double-meet weekend of the season, high scores abound as the regular season wrapped up and conference championships loom next weekend. With just one more score before final NQS are tallied and postseason projections are finalized, most of the country seems to be trending toward their best, and the season’s superstars are shining.
Meet of the Week
Georgia at Alabama
A renewed rivalry with high stakes as both jockeyed for a spot in the top five, the highly anticipated dual between the Crimson Tide and GymDogs lived up to the prestige of the 2000s matchups, as Georgia walked away with a momentum-building road win. It was the program’s first victory at Alabama since 2006 and truly showcased the GymDogs’ team effort, as CaMarah Williams and Avery Moll shared the event title on vault, Autumn Reingold shared the bars title, and Ja’ Free Scott shared the win on beam as they held off a late surge from the home team for the one-tenth win.
Other contenders: BYU’s upset win and season-first 197 at Clemson, Florida’s nation-leading 198.575 at Kentucky
Gymnast of the Week
Kailin Chio, LSU
With three perfect 10s across three routines performed, Chio is one of the most obvious choices for “Gymnast of the Week” ever. Presumably just resting on bars for the postseason and to give depth experience, Chio was flawless across vault, beam, and floor to go deduction-less on the day in leading LSU to a 198 and home victory over Arkansas. Tied for the most perfect scores this season headed into the weekend, Chio has now stormed ahead with a total of nine.
Other contenders: Jordan Chiles (UCLA), Selena Harris-Miranda (Florida), Skye Blakely (Florida)
Performance of the Week
Anna Roberts, Stanford
Throwing down a pair of perfect 10s in one meet to challenge Chio for the most on the weekend, Roberts reigned in her power and precision on vault and floor to reach perfection in a home win over Boise State. Now with three 10.0s and all-around totals of 39.7 or better on the season, Roberts propelled the Cardinal to its second-best total of the year and showcased that the former NCAA vault champion is ready to add more national titles to her resume before capping her collegiate career.
Other contenders: Nikki Smith’s floor 10 in her final home routine for Michigan State, Air Force’s first 197 in program history just weeks after its first 196
Hidden Gem of the Week
With a dominant win over visiting Ball State to end its regular-season slate, Central Michigan capped off an undefeated run through the MAC this season en route to the conference title. The Chippewas also extended their impressive home streak, with 12 consecutive victories dating back to February 2024. In the thick of the battle for one of the final bids to regionals, a season-best 49.475 on floor and overall hit meet was crucial for Central Michigan’s postseason prospects.
Viral Moment of the Week
While it should be no surprise, Jordan Chiles’ friend group is elite. After finishing up UCLA’s regular season slate with a rivalry win over visiting Utah, Chiles posed for pics with her friend group that includes singers Normani and Chloe Bailey, and WNBA player Lexie Brown.
