LIVE BLOG: Penn State Big Four

Wolverines, Nittany Lions, Huskers, and Huskies, oh my! These top-35 teams will meet in State College with all four looking to solidfy their positions in this final stretch of the regular season.

Ninth-ranked Michigan has four scores of 197+, but has also scored as low as 196.375. Beam, where it is among the top five nationally, was impressive out of the gate, with the Wolverines scoring 49.650 in week one, but later performances have been uneven. With a beam showing up to its potential and hit rotations on the other three events, Michigan can easily take the victory and post another 197.

While Michigan stands out as the likely winner, don’t sleep on Penn State. The Nittany Lions own the same conference record as the Wolverines at 3-3 and are in the top 25 on three events. Sophomore Dani Latronica has led the way on beam, scoring 9.925 in last week’s loss to Iowa and ranking 11th nationally. Penn State has reached the 197 mark once already in 2026, and standout performances from Latronica and steady contributors Elizabeth Leary and Jessica Johanson are necessary if it is to reach that benchmark again.

Washington and Nebraska both suffered losses last week, but the blow was softened for Washington with a score of 196.300, its second-highest in 2026, and a career-high 9.975 for junior Chelsea Hallinan on beam. The Cornhuskers also posted five career highs in their narrow loss to Maryland, four of them on vault, where their 49.375 total was a season high.

The meet will be streamed on the Big Ten Network, and scores can be found here.

Nebraska and Penn State are debuting new leotards tonight. The preceding basketball game on BTN still has five and half minutes right now…

AFTER ONE: Penn State 49.250, Michigan 49.200, Nebraska 48.800, Washington 48.775

A lead of half a tenth after one event? The Nittany Lions will take it. Only Bauman broke 9.900 for Michigan, leaving them with an unspectacular number. Nebraska was wobbly, but made it through and dropped the fall. Washington is right at their heels although they only had one score of 9.800 or higher on vault.

Rotation 2: Penn State VT, Washington UB, Michigan BB, Nebraska FX

Leary (Penn State) – FTY is stuck. Good form but flexed feet. 9.825

Oppegard (Washington) – Piked Jaeger through to overshoot to handstand. Double layout with leg separation and a step back. 9.725

Parenti (Michigan) – BHS layout stepout with a small hip check on the landing. Switch leap to split jump. Front aerial to split jump is solid. Sticks the 1.5 twist. 9.875

Gard (Nebraska) – Double back with a controlled landing but lower chest. Switch ring leap to tour jete half. Front layout to front full with pike in the air. Double pike is landed well. 9.775

Latronica (Penn State) – FTY with a medium hop back.

McWilliams (Washington) – Jaeger with flexed feet to overshoot. Double layout with a small hop back, but she had a huge leg separation in the first part of the skill. 9.725

Davis (Michigan) – Solid BHS layout stepout series. Cat leap to side aerial to beat jump, good rhythm. Switch leap to pike jump. BHS Gainer full with a medium hop back. 9.925

Sikon (Nebraska) – Double back with a solid landing. 1.5 twist to front full that travels more than it rises with a small hop. Switch leap to switch full to sissone, was a bit out of control on that series. 9.825

Kaempfer (Penn State) – Yurchenko 1.5 with a small hop forward, but bent knees throughout.

Lin (Washington) – Geinger. Good final handstand. Full-in is landed with low chest and a medium step forward. 9.650

Walters (Michigan) – Straddle jump is a bit under. Front toss is off and she falls. Repeats the series with no problem. A step on her landing. 9.250

Cash (Penn State) – FTY with a big hop back, but good dynamics, some leg separation on the table.

Moody (Washington) – Maloney to Pak with some leg separation in both. Step on the landing. 9.850

Bauman (Michigan) – BHS layout stepout is right on. Split leap to straddle half to sissone. Side somi with straight legs. Gainer pike with a medium step back. 9.875

AFTER TWO: Michigan 98.675, Penn State 98.450, Nebraska 98.000, Washington 97.825

Boozer and Ranger’s stellar routines kept that from being another “meh” rotation after Walters’ fall. But their 49.475 total is, crazy as it sounds, on the low side for their peak. Penn State had two great sticks that helped them stay within striking range of the Wolverines and will give them a good boost going into their highest ranked event. Tubbs’ 9.925 was the bright spot for Washington. They’ll be hoping for another homerun performance from Hallinan and the rest of the beam squad.

Lin (Washington) – BHS layout stepout is right on. Switch leap to switch half, leg up and she falls. 1.5 twist with a small hop forward. 8.850

Davis (Michigan) – ront layout to Rudi, can’t see her feet on the landing, but looked controlled. Switch half to wolf full x2. Double pike is stuck on two feet, but not the most secure, doesn’t hold too long before stepping to the lunge. 9.875

Peterson (Nebraska) – FTY is stuck, leg separation at the end of the skill. 9.800

Monahan (Penn State) – Maloney to Pak Salto. Great last handstand. Full-in is stuck. 9.875

Diaz (Michigan) – High front 2/1 with bigger step out. Rudi to layout stepout is good. Switch half to wolf full. 9.925

Latronica (Penn State) – Piked Jaeger. A waver on the handstand before shootover to handstand. Toe on to toe on piked front 1/2 with a small hop back, leg separation. 9.800

AFTER THREE: Michigan 148.150, Penn State 147.775, Nebraska 146.800, Washington 145.350

Penn State notched a career high for Leary in a great rotation, but still lost ground to Michigan. The Wolverines showed off difficulty and landing control to keep themselves firmly in the driver’s seat in this meet. Meanwhile, Penn State has to face the beam. Nebraska was able to drop the fall from Baechle but didn’t have the landings across the lineup. Washington struggled majorly and had to count two falls. The objective for floor will be to hit cleanly and finish the meet on a positive note.

Guggino (Michigan) – 1.5 Yurchenko is short and takes a medium step back. 9.800

Maul (Penn State) – BHS BHS layout stepout is right on. Switch leap to straddle 1/4. 1.5 twist is stuck. 9.950

Sikon (Nebraska) – Jaeger with flexed feet. Catches her overshoot on her stomach and breaks rhythm. Giant full to double back with a medium step back. 9.250

FX: Jahzara Ranger (Michigan), 9.950

AA: Whitney Jencks (Nebraska), 38.650

Although Michigan emerges victorious, Penn State made the biggest statement of the day, posting its second score of 197+ this season and its season-high on beam. Michigan also notched a season-high total on vault, boosted there and on floor by career-highs from Ranger. This meet will propel both toward conference championships and the postseason with confidence. Washington didn’t let a disappointing beam keep it from posting its highest event score today on floor. Nebraska, meanwhile, finished their day with a lackluster bars rotation a full point below their season high.
