LIVE BLOG: No. 44 Rutgers at No. 24 Maryland

Rutgers broke through to the postseason for the first time in more than a decade last year, but the Scarlet Knights still have work to do to return in 2026. After opening the season with a 195-plus performance, Rutgers has yet to eclipse that mark again. Beam has been the biggest hurdle so far, making the fourth rotation especially critical tonight.

Delaney Adrian delivered a key performance last week on bars and beam and will again be a central figure. Emily Leese did not compete last week, but if she returns here, her vault could provide a meaningful scoring boost.

Maryland comes home after a strong two-week road stretch that saw the Terps surpass 196 in back-to-back meets. Consistency has been the hallmark of that run, aided by Josephine Koglerโ€™s contributions on vault, beam, and floor. Back in College Park, Maryland will aim to sustain that momentum while continuing to refine beam. While the Terps avoided counting a fall last week, cleaner executionโ€”particularly from Madeline Komoroskiโ€”could unlock additional tenths.

Rotation 1: Maryland vault, Rutgers bars

Kogler (MD): Small hop on her Yfull. Good extended hips. 9.825

Uhlenberg (RUT): Not the most height on the jaeger, but keeps toe point. Leg separation in the pak. Floaty double layout but almost puts a knee down while taking a step forward.9.2

Engelmayer (MD): Pike down on her Yfull with a small hop. Twisted a little early off of the table. Some feet. 9.8

Earley (RUT): Good legs togather on the clear hip to geinger to overshoot. Sticks the double back out of the giant full. Some short casts. 9.65

Reade (MD): Big step back and an arm wave on her Yfull. Closed shoulders on the block there. 9.75

Raines (RUT): High and floaty jaeger to overshoot combination. Good toe point on that. Hit the stalder to double tuck dismount. Flexed feet on the dismount. 9.8

Rech (MD): More open hips on that Yfull with a large hop back. Slight pike down at the end. 9.75

Goldsmith (RUT): Close catch on the Ray before the overshoot. Some shy handstands. Sticks the double layout dismount. 9.825

Buckmon (MD): closed shoulders on the block. Great height on that Yfull and stuck the landing with a lean. 9.85

Dildy (RUT): Smooth toe hand to Maloney to pak. Caught the pak a little close. Great handstand finished. Took a step back on the dismount. 9.8

Mendez-Abolnik (MD): Smallest of hops on the Y1.5. Great open body position but has some soft knees and not the most open shoulders on the block. 9.85

Schenkel (RUT): Feet and a little close catch on the piked jaeger and smooth into the overshoot. Stuck the toe on front half dismount with a lean. 9.825

AFTER ONE: Maryland 49.075, Rutgers 48.950

Rutgers started that rotation a little rough, but bounced back in a big way with some nice releases and stuck dismounts. That rotation keeps the Scarlett Knights close to Maryland after one. Maryland didn’t have the best Yurchenko fulls in the air, but the deductions on landings were minimized which helped the scores there even if I may think the scores were a little high. The Yurchenko one and a half from Mendez-Abolnik was a great vailt to cap off that rotation on a high note.

Rotation 2: Rutgers vault, Maryland bars

Chevaire (RUT): Not much height and distance on that Yfull, but kept the hips open well and hops back. 9.725

Saville (MD): Leg separation on the Maloney but glues them for the pak. Arches over the last cast, but pulls it back over. Stuck the double layout dismount. 9.7

Larson (RUT): Bent elbows on the block and does not get much distance on that Yfull. Small bounce in place. Chest was a little low too. 9.725

Buckmon (MD): Legs glues on the clear hip to Maloney to bail. A little shy on the bail handstand. Flexed feet on the double tuck dismount but sticks it. 9.775

Schenkel (RUT): Tucked Tsuk 1.5 woth a step back. That was fun. Feet in that and might have bent her legs a little early, but I like that. 9.725

Ruffing (MD): Feet on the jaeger but good height going into the overshoot. Floaty doube layout and took a small hop back. 9.825

Riley (RUT): Let split on the block and twisted early on the Y1.5. Step forward. Some soft knees. 9.825

Reade (MD): Short girst cast, but keeps her legs together on the geinger to overshoot. Short on the last cast as well and has a small step back on the double layout. 9.825

Dildy (RUT): Great height on that Yfull. The smallest of steps with her right foot. Straigh block and open hips. 9.825

Dennis (MD): Short first cast, a little height and flexed feet on the piked jaeger. Gets the overshoot with a close catch.. Small hop back on the toe on front pike half. 9.775

Leese (RUT): Medium hop forward on the Y1.5. Small leg slit on that block and an elbow bend. 9.8

Komoroski (MD): Great toe point and catch distance on that jaeger. Great pak. Pikes down the double layout a little but sticks it. 9.9

AFTER TWO: Maryland 98.175, Rutgers 97.900

The vault scoring stayed consistant in this rotation which was good. Komoroski put up the highlight routine of the rotation with the best jaeger of the day when account for height, feet, and the catch. Rutgers and Maryland are still close at the halfway point so this one should be good. Both teams are on pace for their respective target scores at the halfway point, but beam has been an issue so there is still a lot to be decided.

Rotation 3: Maryland beam, Rutgers floor

Bingham (MD): Smooth full turn. Solid loso series. Slow cat leap to side aerial. Some feet on the side aerial. Hit the beat to split 3/4s. Sticks the back 1.5 dismount. 9.85

Chevaire (RUT): Sticks the double pike. Feet on that with a little low chest. Controls the front layout front full. Good rotation on the tour jete half to split full. Small foot movement on the from foot for the double tuck. 9.775

Reade (MD): Solid loso series. Short on the switch half out of the cat leap. Hit the switch to pike. Step back on the back 1.5 dismount. 9.775

Larson (RUT): Slides back on the double pike. Great height on that though. Controls the Rudi to double stag. Some leg crossing on the back 1.5 to front layout. 9.775

DeFrees (MD): Falls on the loso series. Feet on the side aerial. Great toe point on the cat leap to switch side. Hits the full turn. Legs crossed on the double full and a hop back. 9.175

Adrian (RUT): Great leg position on the back 1.5 to front full. Almost gets the switch half to wolf 1.5 around. Controls the Rudi. 9.85

Dennis (MD): Hit the wolf turn. Falls on the loso series. Oh Maryland. Falls again and splits the beam on the front aerial. Leaned on the switch to sheep jump. Not a lot of height on the gainer full but sticks it. 8.5

Goldsmith (RUT): Crossover step and low landing on the front double full. Great height on the front full to front layout and controls it. Couldn’t tell rotation on the leaps from this camera angle. The combo pass was controlled. 9.775

Kogler (MD): Great split position on the switch to split quarter. Great toe point on the bhs bhs loso and leans at the end with a leg up. Hits the switch to split. Small hop back on the gainer full. 9.725

Dildy (RUT): Feet on the front tuck through to double tuck. Good rotation and height on the switch side to Popa. Feet on the double pike and controlled it. 9.925

Komoroski (MD): Solid oa bhs loso series. Great extension in the front aerial. Hits the switch to split. Sticks the back 1.5 with a slight lean. 9.95

Leese (RUT): Leg separation on the Full in and controlled the lunge. Off on the rotation in that leap series. Jumped to the lunge out of the front through to double tuck. 9.9

AFTER THREE: Rutgers 147.125, Maryland 146.650

I said Maryland would be looking for an improvement from Komoroski and she delivered with a career high 9.95. However, the two falls earlier in that rotation is what hurts the Terrapins. Rutgers was able to take the lead thanks to those falls from Maryland on beam and a strong floor rotation. Ending the rotation with two 9.9+ scores was huge. I said having Leese back would provide a big boost, and it has to this point. Now, Rutgers has to try to hold this momentum going to beam…

Rotation 4: Rutgers beam, Maryland floor

Adrian (RUT): Finished the full turn on releve. Solid loso series. Short of split on both the switch and switch half. Sticks the double full. Crosses her legs a little. 9.825

DeFrees (MD): Tight tuck position in the double tuck with a small slide. The front full out of the front layout shot straight up in the air and had to take a step back. Clean triple leap combo. 9.75

Larson (RUT): Wobble on the full turn. Feet and a lean on the loso series. Slow connecting the switch to switch half. Short of split and wobbles at the end. Large hop forward on the back 1.5. 9.425

Kogler (MD): Feet on the double tuck. Great height on that with a controlled lunge. Almost around on the tour jete half to wolf 1.5. Large step forward on the back 1.5 to front layout. 9.8

Leese (RUT): Front toss to bhs and bent knees on the bhs. Slight wobble on the split to split 3/4s. Slightly over on the full turn. Sticks the front tuck full. 9.775

Engelmayer (MD): Knees on the front double full but controls it. Good roation on the triple leap combo. Arches over the front layout a bit out of the back 1.5. 9.775

Smith (RUT): Hits the bhs bhs loso. Arm wave on the full turn. It is fun that she keeps the leg straight behind her on that. Hits the switch to switch. Sticks the back 1.5. 9.8

Komoroski (MD): Couldn’t tell if she controlled the Rudi with the camer angle. Great ring positions on the leaps. Misses the punch on the back 1.5 and falls on the front half. 9.0

Riley (RUT): Solid loso series. Great toe point on the split to split 3/4s. Hit the side aerial. Smooth full turn. Small hop forward on the back 1.5. 9.825

Rech (MD): Knees on the front double full with a large lunge out. Great height on the double tuck but lifts up the front foot on the landing. Around on the tour jete half to wolf full. Controls the back 1.5 to front layout. 9.775

Dildy (RUT): Smooth front toss to bhs. Low cat leap and hit the switch side. Smooth full turn. Hit the straddle quarter. Sticks the gainer full. 9.825

Reade (MD): A little short on the double layout. The floor camera angle cut off her feet so I couldn’t tell leap rotation. Looked like a high 1.5 as the last jump through. Clean front layout to front full. 9.85

FINAL: Rutgers 196.175, Maryland 195.600

Maryland will be disapointed with this result as it would have been a great home score without the beam fall. Rutgers will be thrilled with this result. This was a new season high by over seven tenths with season highs on each event and a beam rotation without falls. This meet will be a great jumping off point for Rutgers heading into the rest of the season as the team looks to make it back to regionals.

VT: Buckmon, Mendez-Abolnik 9.85

UB: Komoroski 9.9

BB: Komoroski 9.95
