An action shot of a gymnast, Zoe Claiborne from LIU, performing on a balance beam. She is wearing a shimmering light blue leotard with sheer sleeves. She is positioned on her right knee on the beam, leaning forward with her hands gripping the edges and her left leg extended straight back. Her expression is focused as she looks ahead. The background shows a blurred audience in a stadium with red seating. The beam features a Toyota logo and an AAI equipment mark.

LIVE BLOG: No. 53 George Washington at No. 60 LIU

Preseason EAGL favorite George Washington has had an uneven start to 2026, with early scores swinging nearly three points due largely to counted falls on bars and beam. The Revolutionaries steadied themselves last week at Temple, hitting 25 of 26 routines to place second in a quad and posting a season-high 194.350. Floor was the highlight, as GW scored 49.300 and swept the top three spots behind Deana Sheremeta (9.925), Lola Montevago (9.900), and senior Catherine O’Rourke, who earned EAGL Specialist of the Week honors in just her fourth career meet. With Delaney DeHaan sidelined by a lower leg injury, freshman Aspen Tucker has stepped into the all-around and was rewarded with Rookie of the Week recognition. GW will look to keep that momentum as it chases another conference title and its first regional berth since 2019.

LIU has also been trending upward, improving its score in every meet this season and posting a 194.000 last week—just 0.050 behind Bridgeport. Canadian sophomore Raphaelle Perrault anchors the Sharks, particularly on vault and floor, while freshman Eden Stippick has already claimed Rookie Specialist of the Week honors. Former Danish elite Camille Lund Rasmussen has added stability on bars and beam after missing her first season of competition. The teams last met in Week 2 at the Terrapin Quad, where George Washington edged LIU, 193.200 to 190.400.

The meet will be streamed for free on NEC Front Row.

Reaching 194.0 requires 48.5 on each event, so look for that as a benchmark score.

GW is unveiling a new leotard in memory of a former gymnast who passed away, Alex de Moura, a Long Island native, and the host announcer recognizes the occasion. What a nice acknowledgement of the visiting team!

Rotation 1: LIU VT, GWU UB

Burkhart (LIU) Yurchenko tuck full. Legs apart on the preflight and almost a stick with a little bit of foot movement. 9.725

Claiborne (LIU) Yurchenko full with loose form in the air and a large hop back. 9.775

Perrault (LIU) Handspring pike is longer than it is high. Large hop forward. 9.675

From the score, it looks like Sheremeta fell on bars. We didn’t see the routine, but the score is 9.075.

Safran (GW) Short HS on high, can’t grasp Maloney and falls. Tries again and falls again. Pak with legs separated. Short HS on high, double tuck with low chest but stuck landing. 8.500

Tucker (GW) Good free hip HS, legs apart on Shaposhnikova and Pak, has to stop in front support. High double tuck dismount is overrotated and she stumbles back. This is turning into a disastrous bar rotation for GW. 8.275

Other vault scores: Page 9.725, Savino 9.575, Stippick 9.800. It looks like LIU will be ahead after this rotation, despite having no 10.0 start value vaults.

Peters (GW) Good vertical toe HS, much better form on Maloney to Pak than anyoe we’ve seen. Short HS on high. Toe on front pike half with a stick. 9.600

Montevago (GW) Toe HS on high to Ray is good, nice straight legs and pointed toes. Bail is right vertical, as is toe HS on high. Double tuck with a small hop in place. GW picking things up at the end of the rotation. 9.800

AFTER ONE: LIU 48.700, GWU 45.500

That’s a season low on bars for George Washington, having to count three falls. They’ll want to put that rotation out of mind and get back on track on the remaining events. LIU scores a season high on vault after a solid rotation. All they have to do is catch the bar to retain the lead.

Rotation 2: GWU VT, LIU UB

Tucker (GW) Yurchenko tuck full with leg separation and lack of height, but a stuck landing. 9.500

Safran (GW) Yurchenko full with pike down and a hop back. She looks pleased with her performance. 9.725

Zakaryan (GW) Handspring front tuck half with low chest landing. 9.425

Rasmussen (LIU) We only see her dismount, which is a double tuck with one step forward. 9.600

Kliewer (LIU) good Maloney with legs together, bail is below horizontal. Archy giant on high, double layout with a hop. 9.500

Savino (LIU) Blind change to straddle Jaeger, catches a bit close. Good bail HS, blind full slightly past vertical, double tuck with a hop. 9.625

Carraro (LIU) Maloney to Pak only slight leg form break, blind full ends close to vertical. Double tuck dismount leans forward but doesn’t move her feet. 9.725

Hogan (LIU) Almost misses a foot on her toe-on to HS but keeps going, Maloney and kips to high bar instead of going into a Pak, does toe HS on high before Pak, arches during blind full. Bends in half on her dismount, circles her arms, but doesn’t move her feet. 9.500

Welch (LIU) Blind half to straddle Jaeger with soft legs, overshoot below horizontal, slow full pirouette on high, double tuck dismount with a step. 9.425

We did not see Perraults’s routine earlier, but she scored a 9.525.

AFTER TWO: LIU 96.675 (47.975 bars), GW 93.625 (48.700 vault). Scores are unoffical, and I got a higher total doing my own math, but this is what LIU is reporting.

The teams tie on vault, but LIU definitely had the better bars rotation for a big lead, which is likely insurmountable.

Rotation 3: LIU BB, GWU FX

Kazmierski (GW) Floor starts first. Front layout to Rudi with bent legs. Wolf full is off axis and she jumps on landing instead of planting her feet firmly. Double tuck and slides back on landing. 9.675

Bills-McCoy (LIU). We only see her gainer pike dismount, but she looks upset, so I assume there was a fall in that routine. 8.85

Rasmussen (LIU) Split jump to ring jump, moves very slowly into that series. Gets her BHS LOSO acro series with no problem. Wobble on full turn. Beat jump to side somi, again slow but secure landing. Pauses before her gainer back pike and hops back. 9.575

Tucker scored 9.625 on a floor routine not shown on the livestream.

Danilchenko (LIU) Forward roll mount, she is moving fluidly through her dance and easily through the full turn. BHS LOSO with bent legs on both elements. Split jump to split half with a wobble. Front aerial with a slight upper body balance check. RO double full with a step to the side, so she didn’t finish twisting before landing. 9.650

Montevago (GW) Double tuck, moves front foot on lunge back. Leg low on split half, but Popa gets full split. She does a shoulder stand with leg variations–yogis eat your hearts out for that type of flexibility. Back 1.5 to front layout with decent amplitude and a good landing. She is very fluid in her upper body in her dance, which is a pleasure to watch. 9.725

O’Rourke (GW) 8.850. I wonder what happened there. Too bad we don’t get to see more of the action on this livestream.

Figueroa (LIU) BHS LOSO is done with ease. Split jump to ring jump, foot is not near head height. Cat leap to front toss, a little low but stands it up. Gainer front full. 9.500

Peters (GW) Performing to Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics. We join the routine in progress and see her last tumbling pass, a punch front Rudi well landed. 9.800

Stippick (LIU) Middle splits mount. Wavers on a half turn as part of her choreography. BHS to high LOSO. Switch split leap also gets good amplitude, but she falls on her split 3/4. Too bad, as her exceptional form makes her lovely to watch. Breaks at the waist on her aerial. Gainer back pike with a hop. 8.750

AFTER THREE: LIU 143.925, GWU 142.325

The scoring tightened up a little after LIU had to count a fall on beam. We didn’t get to see a lot of GW routines, but the scores indicate that things went well, ranging from 9.626 to 9.875 as counting scores. Deana Sheremeta scored the 9.825. I hope we get to see her beam routine, as she performs with the utmost stability and confidence.

Rotation 4: GWU BB, LIU FX

Danilchenko (LIU) She has the Jaws chord at the beginning of her routine, perfect for the Sharks. Punck front to double back. Good landing, but flexed feet on both skills. She is a graceful dancer. Switch ring to wolf full with legs below horizontal on the wolf. Double pike lands short but she is able to avoid a step forward. 9.525

Izzo (GW) Middle splits mount, to low beam choreography. BHS BHS LOSO, lifts a leg but gets her balance back. Short of split but solid landing on split 1/4 jump. RO back 1.5 dismount with a step back. 9.675

Claiborne (LIU) FHS Rudi LOSO lands without error. Back 1.5 to front pike. Switch full lands short of 360 rotation. Double tuck with low chest landing but no foot movement. 9.525

Peters (GW) Aerial to BHS, hips slightly off line. Switch leap to straddle jump has good extension. Another switch leap to gainer back pike, an unusual combination. 9.750

Page (LIU) Punch Rudi. Good split on the switch side leap to Popa. Front full to front layout. The crowd is loving this routine. Double tuck with legs apart and small foot movement on landing. She does the shark fin on her head to finish. 9.725

Kazmierski (GW) BHS LOSO bent legs on both skills but no wobbles. Overturns her full turn, does not connect it to beat jump. Straddle sump to straddle full, short on the full. RO back 1.5 with a small hop. 9.650

Perrault (LIU) Open double tuck with legs apart. Dramatic music and good commitment to choreo with involvement of body parts and full extension and expression. Ends Popa precisely. Front layout to front full with a flourish with her hands to emphasize the good landing. 9.825

Holmes (LIU) Double tuck has a bit of low chest. Switch split has full extension. Back 1.5 to front layout with nice flat layout body position. FHS front layout, front full, a slight lack of control on the landing, but a good routine. 9.675

Sheremeta (GW) BSH LOSO is the highest we’ve seen. She breaks at the hips on swicth leap half. Single wolf turn leans a little forward. Gainer tuck full with a stuck landing. A few uncharacteristic mistakes. Still places first on beam with 9.825

Stippick (LIU) Double pike is under rotated. She lands low and out of bounds. Swich half to 2 wolf fulls, legs not at horizontal where they should be. Front layout to front full, almost runs out of it, not sure if the judges will call that a controlled landing. 9.700

Tucker (GW) We see switch leap to switch leap showing leg strength. RO back 1.5 with a hop to the side. 9.525

FINAL: LIU 192.375, GWU 191.000

VT: Mun (GWU) and Stippick (LIU) 9.800

UB: Montevago (GWU) 9.800

BB: Sheremeta (GWU) 9.825

FX: Sheremeta (GWU) 9.875

AA: Montevago (GWU) 38.925

George Washington scores a season low, which will pull down its ranking. Despite the low score, individuals did well, winning or tying for first on every event. Although LIU didn’t get the score it was looking for, today’s total will allow them to drop their season-opening 190.400. Both teams have room for growth and need consistency through the middle and end of the season to reach their potential.
