Recruiting Roundup

Recruiting Roundup: June 6

Competition Updates

From Europe to Canada, there has been a lot of competitive action with committed and uncommitted recruits making appearances. We have a breakdown of all the action below.

European Championships

Last week we discussed the results of qualifications; this week, we’ve moved on to finals! Competing athletes from the class of 2025 will be covered in Last Week In College Gym News, our weekly roundup that publishes every Monday during the offseason. Only one 2027 athlete competed in finals–France’s Ming Gherardi van Eijken–and unfortunately, she did not have her best routines in finals. A fall on her Rudi resulted in a seventh place finish in vault finals, and on floor, a fall on her Moors yielded the same result.

Canadian Nationals

While last week’s article covered the qualification session of level 10 nationals, level 10 finals, high performance, and open divisions have occurred since.

Level 10

For level 10 finals, several recruits had strong results. Kylee McQueen (Maryland, ‘26) took second in the all-around, with Chloe Ross (Kent State, ‘26) coming fourth. On vault, uncommitted Jaylyn Nagle (‘25) took the title, with three-star Makenzie Grant (Pittsburgh, ‘25) coming third. Uncommitted Seren Jackson (‘26) won the national bars title while Natasha Lopez (Bowling Green, ‘25) took fifth. Cristella Brunetti-Burns (‘26), known for her beam at the elite level, took the beam title, while McQueen took second, with uncommitted Danica Signarowski (‘25) taking third. On floor, three-star Sienna Fretwell (Southern Utah, ‘26) took second, ahead of Ross in third.

National Open

Using the elite scoring system, yet only taking place over one day of competition unlike the high performance division, competitors at this level featured several recruits. Uncommitted Leona Gentien (‘26) took first place in the all-around, just ahead of Abby Schmidt (‘27) who took second, and uncommitted Taylor Bennett (‘25) in third. Gentien had the second-highest single vault score, while Sophie Patterson (San Jose State, ‘25) had the fourth-highest. Gentien had another fantastic result on bars where she came second, ahead of Majken Holmgren-Zunti (‘27) in third. Schmidt took both the beam and floor titles, with Bennett as runner-up on beam and Patterson taking fourth again on floor.

High Performance

This division also uses the elite scoring system, yet results were combined over two days of competition. In the all-around, Lia-Monica Fontaine (‘27) won the title, with Gabrielle Black (Utah, ‘26) coming second. Fontaine had the highest combined single-vault scores with her double-twisting Yurchenko; she was also the runner-up on bars. On beam, Black took the title, while Fontaine was again runner-up. However, on floor, Fontaine took the title, with Alyssa Guerrier-Calixte (‘27) in second. Uncommitted Maddison Hajjar (‘25) broke 13 on beam for the first time in her career with a 13.033 on the second day.

Commitment Switches

  • Four-star recruit Brooke Pierson (‘25) decommitted from Clemson and has announced her commitment to Georgia on a scholarship.
