European Championships
European Championships, one of the biggest meets on the elite calendar, was this past weekend. The five competing athletes in the class of 2025 will be covered in Last Week In College Gym News, our weekly roundup which publishes every Monday during the offseason. There were a trio of recruits in the class of 2027 competing: Ming Gherardi van Eijken (FRA), Natalia Pudelko (POL), and Natalia Jacoby (SRB)
Gherardi van Eijken advanced to the vault final in third place and into the floor final in seventh.
Canadian Nationals
As of the time this article was written, only the qualification round of the level 10 sessions at nationals had taken place—but it was already a strong showing for many NCAA recruits.
In the all-around, three-star recruit Kylee McQueen (Maryland, ’26) qualified for the final in second place. Uncommitted gymnast Seren Jackson (’26) tied for third, while three-star Makenzie Grant (Pittsburgh, ’25) qualified in fifth.
Grant also placed second on vault, with uncommitted Jaylyn Nagle (’25) in third. Jackson led the bars qualifications, followed by Grace Hill (’27) in third. Jackson also delivered another strong performance on beam, tying for third.
On floor, Grant qualified in second, with Josie Maryschak (’26) close behind in third.
Commitment Switches
- Three-star recruit Sydney Williams (‘26) decommitted from Illinois State and will instead head to Iowa. She cited the retirement of Bob Conklin, after 20 seasons at Illinois State, as the major reason for her decision to go in a different direction.
