Fantasy Central: Week 2

Fantasy Central: Week 2

It’s year four with Gymlytics fantasy college gymnastics in 2025! We all learned lessons when GymChem took up the helm and created her revamped game, and we’re ready for a fun new season.

Our weekly cadence will continue to match Gymlytics: The fantasy “week” begins with Friday meets, ends with any Thursday ones and trading happens every Monday via the waiver wire. You’ll find us here every Tuesday talking about “next week,” meaning the fantasy week starting that Friday.

This is your one-stop-shop for all things fantasy each week. We’ll be tracking injuries, noting byes and double headers, and giving you tips and tricks to put forward your best team possible.

Week one, right? Judging was tight pretty much across the board. That’s very normal in the first few weeks of season but could also be partially related to the new SCORE board. Either way, don’t panic. Scores will almost certainly loosen up a little, and everyone is in the same boat!

A lot of gymnasts were mysteriously missing from lineups; that’s also normal this time of year! Don’t worry too much if your roster is missing routines; we tend to learn about new injuries and absences throughout January.

Keep in mind, too, that we will never again see this many byes this year. Week one is always light, but being so early in the calendar year meant we saw more teams than usual sit it out. If you only had three of your gymnasts compete on an event this week, rest assured, you are not alone!

Data Corner

Once again we have data editor Dara joining us for Fantasy Central each week. She’ll be breaking down the numbers for you with notes on routine hit rate, lineup appearance frequency, and breakout performances to keep an eye on.

Hit Rate: The longest active hit streaks are held by Mya Hooten on vault (53 meets), Rylie Mundell on bars (47 meets), Jade Carey on beam (42 meets), and Mya Lauzon on floor (38 meets).

Lineup Frequency: On vault, Mya Hooten has been in every vault lineup for the Gophers since her debut back in 2021. Fifth-year Audrey Davis marks her 63rd-straight appearance on bars and beam for the Sooners. She is the only gymnast with a 60-plus active streak on any event. Brooke Donabedian has only missed one floor lineup for Temple in the last four seasons, putting up 54 scores on the event over that period.

Breakout Performances: To kick off the season, we’re highlighting some breakout performances from returning gymnasts. To begin, sophomore Mary Rose Bellan made her college debut on bars, posting a 9.850 to tie for the second-best score in Ball State’s lineup. At the same meet, Missouri’s Hannah Horton won the event with a 9.925. Though she was a staple on vault and floor last season, this was only her second appearance on bars. Western Michigan’s Emily Krzciok claimed the beam title at Michigan State with a 9.900 after recording just one score, a miss, on the event in her freshman campaign. Camie Winger made her case for a spot in Utah’s beam lineup by setting a new career high of 9.950. While she was given a few nods toward the end of the last regular season, her scores on the event have historically been in the mid-9.7 to mid-9.8 range. On floor, junior Cecilia Cooley made her event debut with a 9.875, after missing all of last season due to injury. Finally, vault and bars staple Olivia Zsarmani made her all-around debut for Michigan State, with a 9.850 on floor for her first routine on the event to tie for second.

Starts & Sits for Week 2

This is the spot to find your solutions for those big bye weeks and advice on how to handle injuries, lineup changes, and those surprise breakout performances.

Vault: Suki Pfister is back on the Ball State roster as a grad student. She’s someone to keep an eye on for the waiver wire in a few weeks. Haylee Hardin had a tough landing here and then skipped Iowa State’s floor after one touch; it’s possible she’s injured. Zoe Johnson exhibitioned here for Utah; she is nursing a back injury and is working her way back. Ly Bui dropped a bombshell and joined Florida for this season; the 16-year-old has already been training in Gainesville. She could be another waiver wire contender when the time comes.

Bars: Lily Smith had two fingers taped at the GymDogs preview. She competed beam and floor (only one real pass) but skipped vault and bars. After only competing bars last season, Danielle Sievers was only on floor for the Sooners; with an absolutely stacked roster, it’s hard to guess who might be in this lineup week to week. Clara Raposo had a strong exhibition here for the Utes; she also vaulted in an exhibition spot.

Beam: Michigan State’s Gabi Ortiz, a vault and beam staple last year, exhibitioned both for the Spartans, but it’s unclear who Mike Rowe would pull for her. She may not be a smart play at this point in the year. Jordan Chiles skipped beam for the Bruins; given that she’s had a whirlwind year and only recently rejoined the team in Westwood, it’s reasonable to assume she’s easing in and will be back in the all-around fairly soon.

Floor: Michigan had a rough day overall, and its usual highlight event in floor was no exception. Reyna Guggino was not in this lineup; she only vaulted but appeared healthy. Perhaps she’ll get a turn here in week two, with Paige Thaxton or Haylen Zabrowski both having had rough outings. Sophia Diaz only competed vault and bars and was seen in a boot before the meet; she may be nursing a foot injury and is working her way back. Utah had a just OK day on floor. Makenna Smith mentioned having been sick; if something has been going around Salt Lake, it’s reasonable to assume it showed up most in floor endurance, and things will be even stronger here next week.

Waiver Wire Wrap-up

Come back here for waiver wire tips as we approach its opening! In previous seasons, this has usually been around week three. For now, do your best because your roster is your roster!
