LIVE BLOG: Pac-12 Championship Session One

It’s the end of an era for PAC-12 gymnastics. One team will be crowned the final PAC-12 Champions before everyone jumps ship. For regional implications, this will be the last opportunity for teams to get an away meet score before the post-season. Session one will feature No. 20 Stanford, No. 21 Arizona State, No. 22 Arizona, and No. 27 Washington.

The Cardinals can rise as high as fifteenth in the NQS rankings if they can surpass a 196.600, locking an automatically seeded spot at the Cal regional. Arizona State and Arizona are unlikely to get a seeded spot to regionals, but anything above a 196.700 for Arizona State and 196.850 for Arizona can help them rise in the rankings. Climbing the NQS rankings is really important for Washington, who will want to avoid the play-in round at regionals and are dangerously close to doing so. Anything above a 196.500 will help build the Huskies’ NQS.

Rotation 1: Stanford Vault, ASU Bars, Washington Beam, Arizona Floor

Zeng – Stanford: FTY, stuck, some bent arms on the table.

Reeves – ASU: Jaegar to bail, good amplitude, winds up for the double layout, stuck. 9.850

Strong – Arizona: Rudi to LOSO, great, switch to switch ring half, bounce out of it, 1.5 to full, good control. 9.850

Barbanente – ASU: Good first handstand, picked jaegar to bail, some leg separations catching the release, hop on the double layout dismount. 9.800

Fears – Arizona: Double tuck to open, good control on the switch side to Popa, Rudi with a bound back, 1.5 to full, good control. 9.825

So we’re just not going to see Washington’s beam on this stream I guess?

Widner – Stanford: FTY, bounce back. 9.800

Samiley – ASU: Jaegar to bail, kicks her feet on the ground and is trying to recover then misses the squat on and has to sole circle out of it. 9.650

Deets – Arizona: Front layout to full, controlled lunge, switch full to Popa, nice, double tuck, good chest position on the landing. 9.850

Scharf – ASU: Maloney to Pak, leg separations on the Maloney, late on the half turn, shy on the last handstand, late on the blind full and needs to add another giant before the double tuck. 9.600

Navarro – Washington: Washington lives! BHS BHS LOSO, a little tentative, beat jump to switch side, 1.5 dismount with a hop and some crossed feet. 9.800

Roberts – Stanford: Y1.5, the cleanest vault so far, takes a hop forward. 9.875

Hargrove – Arizona: Full-in, stumble out of it, back half to front full, misses the ring position in the ring leap, her headstand octopus choreography-bit is so cool, double tuck to finish, perfectly controlled landing but chest is down a bit. 9.825

White – ASU: Shap half, orphan-half to bail handstand, good position, my stream cut out but it went 9.900

After 1: Arizona 49.200, Stanford 49.125, Arizona State 49.100, Washington 48.875

Arizona State was able to recover from some troubles earlier in the bars lineup, but a 49.100 is a missed opportunity for the Sun Devils to get a lead on their stronger event. On beam Washington had some struggles and only got a 48.875.

Rotation 2: Arizona Vault, Stanford Bars, Arizona State Beam, Washington Floor

Gutierrez- Stanford: Jaegar to bail, good, nice handstand positions, double-front half dismount, a little low and a hop. 9.850

Clark – ASU: BHS BHS LOSO, solid, split to stag jump, connects it well, front aerial, stuck dismount. 9.9

Killough-Wilhelm – Washington: Front double-full, big lunge out of it, 1.5 to layout, underrotated and takes a few shuffles back. 9.825

Scharf – ASU: Off on the BHS LOSO, solid side somi, switch leap to split jump, good, 1.5 dismount, step back.

Fears – Arizona: Floaty FTY, bounce in place.

Innes – Washington: I missed the first pass, a tad short of the split positions in the dance series, 1.5 to layout, good, Rudi to finish, good height. 9.875

Widner – Stanford: Tkatchev, big fight to hold the cast handstand, saves it, blind full to bail handstand, stuck double layout. 9.850

Navarro – Washington: Double tuck to open, clean, switch side to Popa, 1.5 to layout, not a lot of amplitude in the layout, double pike, some knees in the air. 9.850

After 2: Stanford 98.350, Arizona 98.325, Arizona State 98.275, Washington 97.900

Stanford had a strong bars rotation with a 49.225, highlighted by Neault’s 9.9. Arizona State recovered well from a weaker opening bars rotation for a 49.175 on beam.

Rotation 3: Washington Vault, Arizona Bars, Stanford Beam, Arizona State Floor

Tubbs – Washington: Floaty FTY 9.8

Dean – Stanford: Aerial to LOSO, small lean, split to straddle quarter jump, well connected, 1.5 dismount, stuck. 9.9

Clark – ASU: 1.5 to layout, good amplitude on the layout, Ferrari leap, double pike, solid, switch ring to switch half to finish.

Killough-Wilhelm – Washington: Nice flared FTY, hop back. 9.850, vault scoring is veryyyy concentrated

Washington’s first three FTYs all went 9.8…

Neault – Stanford: BHS BHS LOSO, solid, beat to ring jump, covers up a wobble, 1.5 dismount, almost has the stick but then takes a step. 9.800

Navarro – Washington: Y1.5, a little off distance and a hop, good amplitude. 9.850

Deets – Arizona: good handstand positions on the blind turn to Tkatchev, bail, hop on the double layout dismount.

Alexeeva – Stanford: Double wolf-turn, clean, BHS LOSO, nice, switch half to beat jump, some feet, gainer full with a step forward. 9.850

Derr – Arizona: Ray, catches close, Pak, clean, clean pirouette, full-in dismount, stuck. 9.875

Widner – Stanford: switch leap to split jump, BHS LOSO, solid, front aerial to split jump, disguises her wobble as an arm swing to connect the split jump, queen things, full turn, arm waver, BHS to gainer full, stuck.

Scharf – ASU: Coming in after White’s 8.975, punch front through to double tuck, lunge back, front full to punch front, double pike, solid.

After 3: Stanford 147.700, Arizona 147.475, Arizona State 147.450, Washington 147.075

Stanford extends its lead over Arizona, but Arizona will be finishing on its strongest event beam, so this could get close.

Rotation 4: ASU Vault, Washington Bars, Arizona Beam, Stanford Floor

Purler – ASU: Half-on front tuck off, hop forward

Fears – Arizona: BHS LOSO, aerial, solid, split jump to stag, a bit slow in the connection, 1.5 dismount. 9.850

White – ASU: FTY, some piking coming down and a hop back.

Lin – Washington: Good first cast, Geinger to bail, leg separations, full-in dismount, low landing and a step to the side. 9.625

Mueller – Arizona: Aerial LOSO, check, full turn, check, switch leap to straddle, 1.5 dismount with a tiny hop.

Nguyen – Stanford: Powerful double layout with too much juice and takes a big lunge back, switch side to Popa, 2.5 to front pike to finish, really great power in this routine.

Tubbs – Washington: Good handstands to open, Maloney to bail handstand, double layout with a step back. 9.800

Scharf – ASU: Big FTY, shuffle back.

Roberts – Stanford: Hallie is in the background making hand motions, there’s some sort of music issue, front layout to Rudi, great amplitude, powerful leaps, double tuck to finish, good control. 9.950

Russon – Washington: Jaegar to bail, stuck double layout to finish.

Widner – Stanford: Front layout to full, good, switch full, just gets it around, double pike, bounce back and just stays in bounds. 9.900

FINAL: Stanford 197.175, Arizona State 196.550, Arizona 196.475, Washington 196.325

According to Jim on the broadcast, this is Stanford’s highest score at the PAC-12s since 2008. A 197.175 is very important for this team heading into the post-season. Arizona State and Arizona were neck-in-neck throughout the meet, but Arizona had some flubs on beam to give the lead to Arizona State. Washington had a weaker start on beam, but got the ball rolling throughout the meet.

VT: Fears (Arizona) 9.900
UB: Killough-Wilhelm (Washington) 9.925
BB: Widner (Stanford) 9.950
FX: Roberts (Stanford) 9.950
AA: Widner (Stanford) 39.500
