LIVE BLOG: No. 13 Auburn at No. 4 Arkansas

Welcome to week four of the 2024 season with an exciting SEC dual meet featuring No. 4 Arkansas vs. No. 13 Auburn.  Arkansas is having a great start to its season and last week set a new program record of 197.525 in its dual meet against Alabama (the final result ending in a tie). Auburn is coming off of two losses in a row – one to Kentucky and one to Florida – where both times it posted a score of 197.025. This is an improvement from its first meet where it scored below the 197 mark.

Auburn’s Cassie Stevens is one to watch out for and is currently ranked highest in the all-around for both teams. Arkansas’ Priscilla Park made her all-around debut last week posting 9.800+ on three routines with a miss on one routine. It will be great to see if she hits four for four this week. Others to watch out for include Arkansas’ Lauren Williams and Cami Weaver, both ranked in the top 20 on vault and Auburn’s Gabby McLaughlin who is ranked 15th on balance beam.

Make sure to also keep an eye on the crowd during this meet. This is Arkansas’ first Compete for a Cause Meet where the team and fans are encouraged to dress in colors that show support for or recognize causes close to their hearts.

Barnhill is sold out tonight. Let’s get started!

Weaver (ARK) VT: Beautiful Yurchenko full with hop back. 9.85

After 1: Arkansas (49.225), Auburn (48.875)

Tough start for Auburn with an opening fall and a lower score later in the lineup. Arkansas had a good start- a couple tenths off last week’s vault rotation – but a solid start, nonetheless.

Rotation 2: Auburn Vault, Arkansas Bars

Groth (AUB) VT: Nice Yurchenko full with a stuck landing. Great for her after the issues on uneven bars. Love to see her bounce back! 9.850

Swaney (ARK) UB: Huge Ray, pak with slight leg separation, double layout with a stuck dismount. 9.900

Schumaker (AUB) VT: Yurchenko 1.5 in tuck position with a fall. Looks like she missed her block. 9.050

Pratt (ARK) UB: Ray to bail handstand, double layout to stuck landing. That’s two in a row for Arkansas. 9.875

Hubbard (AUB) VT: Yurchenko 1.5 to a great landing. Good one after the fall. 9.875

Huff (AUB) VT: Huge Yurchenko 1.5 to a stuck landing. Great vault! 9.900

Scalzo (ARK) UB: Blind to Jaeger to bail handstand. Double layout to an almost stick. 9.825

Hollingsworth (AUB) VT: Yurchenko 1.5 to a side step back. Beautiful form. 9.750

Park (ARK) UB: Ray to pak and touched both feet to the ground. Double layout to a small hop. Good for her keeping the routine going. 9.675

Stevens (AUB) VT: Yurchenko 1.5 with only a slight hop forward. 9.900

Jones (ARK) UB: Blind to pike Jaeger to pak, double layout to another stick. 9.900

After 2: Arkansas (98.625), Auburn (98.150)

Both teams had great routines in that rotation, and both also had a miss. It was great to see that neither team had to count a fall with solid routines from the rest of the lineup. Arkansas stuck the majority of their landings and Auburn has a couple sticks also.

Rotation 3: Arkansas Beam, Auburn Floor

Gamiao (ARK) BB: Standing BLO LOSO with slight adjustment, side somersault, switch leap, split jump, full turn, roundoff 1.5 full dismount to small hop. Great start! 9.875

Brusch (AUB) FX: Opens with front tuck through to double back tuck, nice leaps series, double pike to close. Both landings were solid. Nice routine to start. 9.850

Jones (ARK) BB: Front aerial to BHS BHS, solid full turn, split jump to double stag jump, front full dismount to stuck landing. Beautiful form. 9.875

Huff (AUB) FX: Opens with full twisting double back, leap series includes switch ring, second pass is punch front layout to Rudi with a fall. Her punch seemed off with the first skill. 9.050

Williams (ARK) BB: BHS LOSO with wobble, switch leap to staddle quarter solid, front kick over in pike position, full turn, roundoff 1.5 with small hop. 9.775

Groth (AUB) FX: Front handspring front double full to open, solid leap series, roundoff 1.5 to front layout with small hop, front handspring Rudi to close. Nice routine after a fall. 9.850

Weaver (ARK) BB: BHS LOSO with a slight wobble that she turned into dance, side aerial is solid, full turn, dismounts with roundoff 1.5 with small hop. 9.725

McLaughlin (AUB) FX: Opens with roundoff 1.5 to front layout solid, leap series includes wolf full, closes with double pike. Nice dance throughout. 9.900

Linton (ARK) BB: Starts with double wolf turn, BHS, BHS, BLO solid, switch leap to split jump, round off 1.5 to stuck landing. First stick on beam for the Razorbacks. 9.825

Stevens (AUB) FX: Front layout to Rudi, great amplitude on leap series, double tuck to end with a great landing. 9.850

Park (ARK) BB: Full turn to wobble, BHS LOSO LOSO solid, switch leap, switch leap, side aerial to 1.5 with small step forward. 9.775

After 3: Arkansas (147.750), Auburn (147.475)

Arkansas had a good beam rotation. There is room for improvement with a few wobbles and only one stuck dismount. The team really fought (or danced!) through their wobbles. Auburn had a nice floor rotation and thankfully didn’t have to count the fall. I would love to see the entire beam team hit beam and looking forward to the Arkansas’ floor party.

Rotation 4: Auburn Beam, Arkansas Floor

Brusch (AUB) BB: Switch half to beat jump, full turn, BHS LOSO with slight wobble, switch leap to straddle quarter, gainer full dismount. Great lead off! 9.825

Gamiao (ARK) FX: Opens with huge double pike, second pass round off 1.5 to double full, nice leap series, ends with double tuck to a great landing. Fun routine! 9.850

Zancan (AUB) BB: Beautiful press handstand mount, BHS LOSO, switch leap to switch half, full turn to slight bobble, roundoff 1.5 dismount with a little form. 9.725

Klein (ARK) FX: Opens with front layout step out to double tuck to good landing, second pass is double pike with solid landing. 9.875

Hollingsworth (AUB) BB: Full turn, BHS LOSO solid, switch half to split jump, BHS to gainer full with a good landing. 9.875

Jones (ARK) FX: Opens with huge front double full to great landing, switch ring to switch half, roundoff 1.5 to front layout and another good landing, last pass is Rudi to great landing. Great, clean routine. 9.900

Groth (AUB) BB: BHS LOSO and a fall, switch leap to switch half, full turn, cartwheel to gainer full dismount. 9.150

Smith (ARK) FX: Front layout through to double tuck and a stuck landing, switch half to Popa, last pass is huge double pike to great landing. Excellent! 9.825

Stevens (AUB) BB: BHS LOSO solid, split leap to double stag, gainer front aerial to one knee is solid, roundoff 1.5 dismount to a stuck landing. Another awesome routine after a fall. 9.900

Williams (ARK) FX: Huge full in to start, second pass is front 1.5 to front layout, switch side to Popa, last pass is double tuck to a great landing. And she did the worm as part of her dance. That was fun! 9.950

McLaughlin (AUB) BB: BHS LOSO, Aerial to split jump, full turn, split leap to staddle three quarter, gainer pike dismount to slide movement. Solid routine. 9.875

Price (ARK) FX: Gorgeous double layout to start, switch side, Popa, Popa, fun dance, front full front layout last pass to good landing. Another good one! 9.900

FINAL: Arkansas (197.225), Auburn (196.675)

Arkansas with the win! Not as high as their record score last week but a solid score. There is room for improvement with landings – especially on vault and beam. The floor rotation was a ton of fun, and you could almost feel the energy in the arena. This wasn’t Auburn’s best performance as they had a fall on each event. Kudos to the team for not counting a fall, but plenty of room to improve and get back to a score above 197.

VT: Huff (AUB), Stevens (AUB) 9.900
UB: Drotar (ARK), Jones (ARK), McLaughlin (AUB), Swaney (ARK), 9.900
BB: Stevens (AUB), 9.900
FX: Williams (ARK), 9.950
AA: Stevens (AUB), 39.475
