There’s a lot that happens on the gymternet each week. So much so that it can be hard to keep track of it all. From training updates and COVID year announcements to recruiting rumors and coaching news, we don’t blame you for missing some important points here and there.

That’s where we come in. Last Week in College Gym is your one-stop shop for all the important headlines from the previous week in college gymnastics. No matter if you’re taking a social media break, went on vacation, or just don’t have the capacity to follow every single gymnast, team, and fan, we have you covered.

Conference Realignment Shakes Up NCAA Gymnastics for 2025

The Pac-12 conference continues to dissolve as several schools announced their departure from the conference as early as the 2024-2025 academic year. Washington and Oregon — the latter of which does not sponsor gymnastics — are headed to the Big Ten, joining UCLA and USC, who announced their Pac-12 departures in 2022. Meanwhile, the Big 12 announced the additions of Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah, bringing the total number of teams for gymnastics to seven following Oklahoma’s departure to the SEC.

  • Syke Blakely has confirmed her deferral from Florida this coming season to pursue a place on the 2024 US olympic team.
  • LSU has confirmed the promotion of Courtney McCool Griffeth to assistant coach.
  • Springfield alum Sara King is representing Slovenia at the FISU World University Games in Chengdu, China from the August 1–5.
  • Recent Oklahoma grad Olivia Trautman was nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year.
  • Brooke Burkhart announced her transfer to LIU. She spent the previous two years with Southern Connecticut.
  • UC Davis announced the hiring of Rebekah Hill as assistant coach. Hill was previously at Bowling Green as a graduate assistant.
  • Kent State’s gym renovations have been underway through the offseason, and now including an in-ground pit.

Training Updates

  • Utah State: Rising senior Jenna Eagles is training a full-twisting double back on the TumblTrak. On vault, incoming Utah State freshman Nyla Morabito is training a Yurchenko one and a half. On bars, incoming freshman Mya Witte is training a giant full to double back dismount, while incoming freshman Isabella Vater is working a clear hip to Deltchev to overshoot combination.
  • Auburn’s Olivia Greaves is back in action after sitting out her freshman season due to a knee injury. The former elite posted a training video of her signature event, bars. 
  • Incoming Denver freshman Amanda Hargraves is training a double layout.
  • Oklahoma fifth-year Ragan Smith is working a front aerial to handstand down to the beam.
  • West Virginia: Rising junior Sierra Muns is training a double layout dismount on bars. Incoming freshman Jurnee Lane is also working Weiler Jaegers on bars.
  • Incoming BYU freshman Ava Jorgensen is working a Ray to overshoot connection on bars.
  • Greenville incoming freshman Emma Brannon is training a straddle Jaeger this off season via Instagram stories.
  • SEMO’s rising seniors are bringing the upgrades, with Lydia Webb training a Jaeger to overshoot connection and Anna Speller working an Arabian double front on floor. 
  • Elizabeth Janssen, UW-La Crosse rising freshman, has been seen training a Rudi to layout stepout connection on floor.
  • Rising Boise State sophomore Anna Ferguson is training a Maloney on bars.
  • Incoming Brockport freshman Taylor Pawlenko is working a Maloney to bail on bars
  • Incoming Temple freshman Maya Keller is training both a front pike half vault and a double front half out bar dismount into the pit.
  • Incoming George Washington freshman Maya Peters is training a switch leap to gainer pike dismount on beam.
  • Rising Towson senior Amanda Pedicelli is training a Shaposh to Pak combination on bars.
  • Incoming Clemson freshman Grace LaCrosse is training a full-twisting double layout bar dismount into the pit.
