LIVE BLOG: No. 19 Southern Utah, No. 36 San Jose State, No. 45 UC Davis at No. 53 Sacramento State

This quad meet should be a fun one, with important regionals implications for all three away teams. Southern Utah will be looking to score a high 196 to make a push for a seeded regional spot. After a bit of a beam disaster last week, the Thunderbirds will be looking to bounce back and 5th year all arounder Karley McClain will be key to that. For San Jose State, this meet is a great opportunity to drop the low 195 that’s bringing down its NQS. The Spartans are looking to score a 196 to get back into the regionals picture, with Lauren MacPherson and Jaudai Lopes leading the way in the all around.

As for UC Davis, the Aggies are still counting a 194 in their NQS and replacing that with a mid-195 will be key to get back into the bubble picture. UC Davis has not scored well on the road this season, but if it’s going to make a push for regionals, it needs to start tonight. Look for Keanna Abraham to anchor floor and vault with her dynamic tumbling and massive Yurchenko 1.5. Last but not least, home team Sacramento State is looking to build off of its season high 195.725 from last week. 5th year Amber Koeth has been impressive on beam all year long, so watch out for her routine tonight. This quad meet will be exciting but hectic, and I’m going to try and catch as much as possible!

San Jose State survived beam thanks to Macpherson’s career high 9.950 to break 49 which bodes well for its chances of breaking 196 tonight. UC Davis neared 49.000 on bars, its scores were held back by some messy landing, but across the board, really nice releases. Sac State put up solid vaults, but struggled with landing control today.

Southern Utah was solid on vault, but missed an opportunity to capitalize with Kho sitting her 1.5. UC Davis was impressive on beam with lots of pretty gymnastics to break 49. UC Davis was impressive on floor, posting a massive 49.350, with great landing control. FINAL: San Jose State 196.600, UC Davis 196.475, Southern Utah 196.200, Sacramento State 195.450

This quad certainly delivered with San Jose State upsetting Southern Utah to win the meet. UC Davis sneakily had a great night as well, placing second with a massive 196.475. Both of these road scores will be hugely beneficial to these teams regional hopes as well. Southern Utah was having a really solid meet, until beam. This is now the second week in a row that the Thunderbirds have had to count a fall on beam, which is an alarming trend as postseason approaches. Last, but certainly not least, Sacramento State had a really solid performance on its senior night, and it was night to see Amber Koeth tie the school beam record after she’s being such a consistent contributer throughout her career.

VT: Kayla Pardue (SUU) 9.900
UB: Shylen Murakami (SUU) 9.900
BB: Lauren Macpherson (SJSU), Amber Koeth (Sac State) 9.950
FX: Amber Koeth (Sac State) 9.950
AA: Lauren Macpherson (SJSU) 39.550
