Happy Hanukkah From College Gym News!

This year, Hanukkah begins tonight at sundown and will last until December 26th. With eight nights at our disposal, each one after tonight will be used to share features on Jewish collegiate gymnasts. Tonight’s will be a small yet long awaited introduction to the coming week of stories from eight athletes, representing seven programs in five separate conferences. Many athletes featured are proud alumni of the Maccabiah Games, having competed between 2013, 2017 and the most recent edition in 2022.

Over the week, we’ll be sharing discussions about gymnastics, but also exploring how the athletes are able to merge their culture with their sport and live as authentically as possible while in college. Whether it’s through participation on campus with Jewish student groups, encouraging discussions about Jewish history with peers or earning a coveted spot to compete at the Maccabiah Games, no two experiences are the same. We can’t wait to dive into them and hopefully provide some Jewish nachas (pride or gratification in Yiddish) for any readers who are observing Hanukkah.

From all of College Gym News’ contributors, no matter what you’re putting on your latkes, we’re hoping all of our readers in or held near to the Jewish community have a happy festival of lights.
