2021 Predictions: Which gymnast will be the first to score a perfect 10 in 2021?

There’s less than a week left until the start of the long-awaited 2021 season. While this year may look a bit different than we’re used to, the gymnastics is still the same—and it wouldn’t be a new season without some predictions. Taking a page out of The Athletic’s book, we’ll be answering one pressing question over the course of 10 days as we gear up for the first meet. Check out the previous days’ questions and predictions here.

Which gymnast will be the first to score a perfect 10 in 2021?

Winner: Trinity Thomas, Kiya Johnson (3 votes)

Runners-up: Haleigh Bryant, Lexy Ramler (2 votes)

Also receiving votes: Olivia Trautman, Alexis Vasquez (1 vote)

Elizabeth: I almost went with a freshman, but I’ll say Trinity Thomas. Her first one last season opened the floodgates to a season full of perfect marks in 2021.

Talitha: Look, I’m going to say Haleigh Bryant. Week one. Huge vault. Stuck. Perfect 10.0. End of the story.

Katherine: I’ll go with Kiya Johnson on either vault or beam since she’s gotten one on both of those before. I’ll say vault is a little more likely.

Katie: I think Olivia Trautman will get one for Oklahoma either on vault or floor early on in the season.

Emily M: I 100% agree with Talitha; Haleigh Bryant right out of the gate.

Brandis: I’m going to go with Lexy Ramler on this one. Despite traditionally low Big Ten scoring, the senior was able to notch a perfect score on beam in back-to-back weeks last season, and I think she’ll add a third 10.0 to her resume early on in 2021.

Mary Emma Burton: I’m going to say Kiya Johnson at LSU. She got several last year and should get plenty more this year.

Jenna: Looking at the calendar for the first night of competition, Florida’s meet starts 30 minutes before LSU’s, so I’ll say Trinity Thomas will just edge out Kiya Johnson! However, if it doesn’t happen the first week—watch out for Denver’s Alexis Vasquez in week two.

Izzi: I have to agree with Elizabeth and Jenna. Trinity Thomas is clean and very consistent, so I can see her getting a 10.0 right out of the gate.

Tara: I was close to going with Bryant, but I think Kiya Johnson will go 10 first since she already has a year under her belt and went 10 last season.

Kalley: I agree with Brandis on this one: I think it’s going to Lexy Ramler on beam.

Claire: I think it’s going to be Alexis Vasquez on beam, but I’m hoping Trinity Thomas nails her first vault of the season en route to a Gym Slam.
