The NCGA Dismount: Week 7

Things got busy in the NCGA this week with some extraordinary and dynamite gymnastics. In the East, Rhode Island and Ithaca smashed records while Brockport and Ursinus flirted with scores not scene since 2019 and 2020, respectively. Hop a jet to the West to see that the Gusties put their name in lights too.

Superlatives

Abby Bang’s School of How to Block

Week after week, vault after vault, Cortland’s Abby Bang and her front handspring front vault. No notes. She makes this vault look easy and has averaged over a 9.500 this season. And we all know it’s not easy. Here’s to Abby Bang and her block. *chefs kiss*

Consistency Award

Alex Wood unveiled her Yurchenko full at the end of last season, but she is really hitting her stride on vault in 2023. This weekend marked her fourth 9.7-plus score in the last five meets. As you can see from the video, she’s a landing machine.

Back, Back, Back Again

After starting 2023 off a bit slow and missing lineups for the majority of the season thus far, Emily Buffington made a grand entrance with two event victories. Sit back and relax. Enjoy one of the top front handspring front pikes in the country. Or feel free to take in a stuck Arabian double front. Pick your poison.

NCGA-East Meet of the Week

Brockport, Rhode Island, Ursinus at Ithaca

Why Should You (Re)Watch? Ithaca smashed a team beam record while Nicole Lonski set a new record on bars for the Bombers. Oh, and Cameryn Nichols tied the program record, her record, on beam. RIC set a new program record team score. Ursinus set a season high for the team, the best since February 2020, and new highs on bars and beam while Alyssa DeLorme notched her career best in the all-around. We’re not done. The Golden Eagles scored a whopping 193.250, the team’s best score since 2019.

Are These Teams Trending Up or Down?: Each team had a few hiccups but WATCH OUT, these teams are comin’ for you.

WIAC Meet of the Week

Stout at Gustavus Adolphus

Why Should You (Re)Watch? Program record. Need we say more? The Gusties had the meet of their lives, not only upsetting Stout but setting a new team best along the way. If you haven’t gotten a chance to see Maddox Lee in action on bars just yet, get excited because she’s only a freshman. This week’s routine featured stunning handstands and a stuck blind full to double back.

Are These Teams Trending Up or Down?: The Gusties outscored their season best by over three points. The team is on the up and up. Stout is staying steady here at the midseason point.
