Boise State celebrates one another in a huddle.

Boise State Tops Mountain West Preseason Poll for Second Consecutive Year

The Mountain West Conference released its 2025 preseason poll on Thursday, and the reigning Moutain West champion, Boise State, topped the list for the second year in a row. The Broncos led the way with 30 overall votes and are led by Tina Bird as she heads into her 18th season as head coach of the program. Bird is responsible for sending former Bronco standout Courtney Blackson to nationals for the second year in a row in 2024, this time on bars, after she was the national runner-up on vault the year prior.

Utah State and San Jose State tied for second in the poll, with the former receiving one first-place vote from Mountain West coaches. Utah State is led by head Kristin White, who is in third year at the helm of the program after replacing current Clemson head coach Amy Smith. Utah State, who finished third in last year’s poll, took a step forward this preseason thanks to a talented freshman class that includes two former four-star recruits and one former three-star.

The Spartans equal their placement in the poll from last season at second overall. San Jose State is led by head coach Jordan Bowers and is the only Mountain West team to add a former five-star recruit to its 2025 roster in Madison Gustitus. With their accomplished freshman class and experienced returners, the Spartans are a team to watch this year.

Air Force rounded out the conference infourth, matching its placement from last year’s poll. The Falcons return the 2024 Mountain West Freshman of the Year, Maggie Slife, who is now entering her second season with the program. Slife earned three first-team all-conference honors last season on vault, bars, and in the all-around.
