The 2025 preseason coaches poll’s release is imminent. But first, our opinions. Once again the College Gym News staff conducted its own poll to determine team rankings for the upcoming season in a similar vein to the AP Top 25 for college football.
Our methodology is simple. Each contributor who wanted to participate submitted their top 36 teams for the 2025 season. Lists were submitted privately and no discussion was allowed beforehand to be able to produce as unbiased and as accurate a ranking as possible. We then assigned a numerical value to each place, with each editor’s first-place team earning 36 points, second place taking 35 points and so on through No. 36. Each team’s points were then added up to determine the overall order. You can see each editor’s individual top 36 here.
The top 36, the point totals, and the amount of first-place votes where applicable can be found below, as well as additional teams that earned points but did not make the top 36.
Does your order match up with ours? Where would you make changes? Let us know your top 36 in the comments or on social media! Then, stay tuned for the announcement of the official 2024 preseason coaches poll on Road to Nationals, which should be soon.
Finally, if you’re interested in the reasoning behind some of our decisions, our roundtable on our poll is set to publish next week. We’ll share our thought processes behind our choices.

My Top 16:
1. LSU – Loaded & Konnor off injured list. I also picked LSU last year
2. Florida – Skye getting ready for bars and beam, Kayla close behind
3. Oklahoma – 6 freshmen, the 2024 Florida in 2025
4. California – Another loaded lineup plus 1 deeper
5. Arkansas – Joscelyn Roberson and Mati Waligora = huge adds
6. Utah – Short on depth
7. UCLA – Tempted to put Bruins at 6 with 2 top gymnasts returning
8. Denver – Tired of underestimating the Pioneers
9. Missouri
10. Michigan State
11. Minnesota
12. Stanford
13. Michigan
14. Alabama
15. Kentucky
16. Ohio State
Excited to watch the Big Ten this year. Ohio State and Penn State keep climbing and both have talented freshman to join their excellent upperclassmen (Vetter, Harris, and Piedrahita might be the most overlooked gymnasts in the country). Michigan State returns a ton of talent and I think they are now believing in themselves a lot more. Minnesota and UCLA have a good mix of a couple superstars and freshman that could make an impact and then Michigan has some solid leadership in Bauman and Guggino, but also quite a bit of questions. I’m hoping we can see at least two Big Ten squads at Nationals this year.
Also – Big Ten judges please keep pace with the SEC. If they go high, so should the Big.
I would rather you hoped for fair judging across the nation which has been the focus of the many changes being introduced for the 2025 season. In the past, it was OU and the Big 12 giving out inflated scores like candy, not the SEC. You and I can both hope those days are over with OU now in the SEC. With the new B1G, how do you rank the conference?
