There’s a lot that happens on the gymternet each week. So much so that it can be hard to keep track of it all. From training updates and COVID-year announcements to recruiting rumors and coaching news, we don’t blame you for missing some important points here and there.

That’s where we come in. Last Week in College Gym is your one-stop shop for all the important headlines from the previous week in college gymnastics. No matter if you’re taking a social media break, went on vacation, or just don’t have the capacity to follow every single gymnast, team, and fan, we have you covered.

Newsworthy Items

  • Texas Woman’s assistant coach Kristen Harold is joining Arizona State’s staff in the same role.
  • Members of Michigan State’s 2024 team received their Big Ten championship rings.
  • Western Michigan made updates to its training gym. 
  • Kent State sophomore Gabby Riley was awarded a scholarship.
  • NC State got a new locker room
  • Former Boise State gymnast Ciera Martin joined Bowling Green’s staff as an assistant.
  • Former Auburn gymnast and U.S. Olympian Sunisa Lee was named and profiled as Glamour’s Woman of the Year.

Training Updates

  • Several Kent State gymnasts are training vault upgrades. Sophomore Nene Alvine is training both a Yurchenko full and a Yurchenko one and a half after being limited to beam her freshman year. Juniors Charlie Behner and Heidi Schultz are also working Yurchenko one and a half vaults.
  • Michigan State freshman Amy Doyle is training a Yurchenko one and a half.
  • California senior Ella Cesario is training a tucked full in on floor. Classmate Abbey Scanlon is training a side aerial to two feet on beam.
  • Kent State freshman Anika Most is training a Ray on bars.
  • Bridgeport junior Lola Sepulveda is training a Yurchenko one and a half on vault.
  • Denver sophomore Madison Ulrich is training a triple series on beam while fifth year Bella Mabanta is training a tucked gainer full dismount on beam. 
  • LSU junior Ashley Cowan is training a full-twisting double layout dismount on bars.
