LIVE BLOG: No. 19 Ohio State at No. 31 Nebraska

The No. 19 Ohio State Buckeyes head to Lincoln for a Big Ten dual meet against No. 31 Nebraska.

Ohio State is coming off a home victory over Illinois, posting a 196.000 behind a strong all-around showing from senior Tory Vetter, who recorded a season-high 39.350. Baylie Belman made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, earning a 9.900 on floor to share the event title with teammate JJ Coleman, who has now posted three consecutive floor scores in the 9.9 range. Floor has been a standout event for the Buckeyes this season, with Ohio State currently ranked ninth nationally.

Nebraska enters the weekend fresh off an upset of No. 14 Minnesota, edging the Gophers 195.600 for its first regular-season dual win over Minnesota since 2018. Isabel Sikon claimed the all-around title with a 39.000, while the Huskers tallied five career highs and four season highs across the meet. Among the highlights was Molly Peterson’s 9.800 in her collegiate debut on vault. With momentum and home-crowd energy on its side, Nebraska will look to make it two straight statement wins in Lincoln.

AFTER ONE: Nebraska (48.925), Ohio St (48.850)

Very evenly matched first rotation. The Huskers built on each score and ended strong although they need to work on their landings. The Buckeyes were stuck in the 9.700’s as only Maisyn Rader broke 9.800. Still, they were able to drop Jackson’s 9.400. Nebraska is looking for its second straight home upset and have a slight lead here after one.

Jencks (Neb): Ray to Overshoot is steady, great handstands and her double layout is stunning to a stuck landing. 9.9, well deserved!

AFTER TWO: Ohio St (98.150), Nebraska (97.875)

Very impressive vault rotation for Ohio State. Last week, they sat both of the Y 1.5’s and here they stuck them both. All scores of 9.850 or higher and the Buckeyes easily get their season high by over four tenths with a 49.300. Nebraska recovered from some early problems but finished with major scores from Peterson and Jencks to stay within three tenths halfway through.

Rotation 3: [Nebraska] BB, [Ohio State] FX

Jencks (Neb): BHS LOSO, no wobbles. She has beautiful lines. Front toss with a tiny bobble. Switch leap, straddle half, reaches 180. RO 1.5, small hop foward. 9.825.

Guevara (Ohio St): FHS, Front double full, to front tuck is a little off center. FHS Rudi LOSO, gets great height in the air. Well done to start the Buckeyes on floor! 9.850.

AFTER THREE: Ohio St (147.200), Nebraska (146.950)

The Huskers really brought it on beam. With a quartet of 9.825’s, they matched their season high of 49.075 from last week. The Buckeyes came in as No. 9 on floor but had two uncharacteristic stepouts causing them to count a 9.675. They still broke 49.000 for the event. After three rotations just a quarter point separates the two teams. Nebraska will go to the floor, however, which is typically their weakest event. But, they have stayed right in this through three. Ohio State is Top 20 on beam and will look to finish this off.

Rotation 4: [Ohio State] BB, [Nebraska] FX

Guevara (Ohio St): Pretty full turn. BHS LOSO is wobble free and steady. Cat leap switch half is nailed right on the beam. RO double full, pulls her feet together and sticks the landing. 9.925.

Gard (Neb): Double pike, opens at the right time for a great lunge. Front layout front full, lacks control on the landing and is off center. Double pike is clean and lands it right in place. 9.675.

Jackson (Ohio St): Switch leap to split jump just shy of 180. Front aerial to a BHS swingdown, unique combo. Aerial to back 1.5 and gets the second stuck landing on beam for Ohio State. 9.925.

Kraus (Neb): Using Pink Panther music. Double back is completely controlled. Ro 1.5 front layout, 1.5 doesn’t get a lot of rise. Double pike is very controlled. 9.825

Smith (Ohio St): Difficult double wolf turn is just awesome. Front toss to BHS is great. Big wobble and arm circle on the switch side. Gainer full to a stick. 9.725.

Baechle (Neb): FHS Front double full and immediately dances out of it. Ro 1.5 front full, a bit off on the body position. 9.800.

Martin (Ohio St): BHS LOSO is pretty. Cat leap side aerial is well done. BHS 1.5 opens and takes a small step. 9.850.

Sikon (Neb): Double tuck to open. Back 1.5 front full has very tight form and controls it. Switch full to staddle full is a little off. And celebrates with dance! 9.775.

Vetter (Ohio St): BHS LOSO is rock solid. Aerial is done well. BHS Gainer full and sticks it! 9.900.

Jencks (Neb): Front layout Rudi is well done and has a straight body position throughout. Double back is sky high and beautiful. 9.850.

McCann (Ohio St): RO back layout series, keeps her arms straight down to nail it. Full extension on the full turn. RO 1.5 and drops her shoulders a bit but sticks the landing. 9.825.

Homecillo (Neb): Double pike, drops the landing right into a controlled lunge. RO 1.5 front layout and dances right out to go into her leap series. Love that she’s playing to her team with the dance and music! Double back is a bit underrotated and has to take a step forward. 9.825.

FINAL: Ohio St (196.625), Nebraska (196.025)

VT: Vetter, Coleman (9.875)

UB: Jencks (9.900)

BB: Jackson, Guevara (9.925)

FX: Coleman (9.925)

AA: Jencks (39.325)

The Buckeyes saved the best for last! They got season highs of 49.425 on beam and a 196.625 total. Overall, they put up four 9.900’s across beam and floor and had all vault scores over 9.850 showing quite a model of consistency. The Huskers have to be thrilled hitting their first 196 of the season. They continue to build on their momentum as this is their fourth straight meet with an improved score, and each improvement was at least three tenths over the prior one. They will be sure to move up in the rankings. This was a great meet for both teams.
