The Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association has added veteran judge and coach Shawn Ellis to its SCORE Board pilot program, expanding the initiative aimed at standardizing and evaluating judging in college gymnastics.
Ellis brings more than 30 years of gymnastics judging and coaching experience, including three decades as a college judge and five cycles with a national rating. He also works as a language teacher.
The SCORE Board was introduced earlier this year as part of the WCGA’s officiating reform efforts. The program is designed to establish a judge evaluation process in college gymnastics, with goals of creating consistent scoring, standardizing deductions, and formalizing postseason selection using objective data. It is led by Supervisor of Officials Jennifer Sampson and guided by the WCGA’s Officiating Committee.
With Ellis’ addition, the SCORE Board now includes eight members: Connie Dickson (Minnesota), Janie Ingram (Ohio), Robert Neat (Indiana), Rebecca Callaway (California), Donagene Jones (California), Kim Dyer (Illinois), and Terri Roberson (North Carolina/Costa Rica).
The WCGA, a membership-led professional association, represents intercollegiate women’s gymnastics coaches across NCAA and NAIA divisions and works to promote and elevate the sport. The organization first announced the SCORE Board in January, following Sampson’s appointment as supervisor of officials in 2024.
