LIVE BLOG: NCAA Nationals Team Final

It all comes down to this! It’s the final day of the 2025 season and by the end, we will have a new team champion!

Three of the teams here have won national titles previously. UCLA and Oklahoma have both won in the last decade while Utah is looking to break a 30-year drought in its 50th year of gymnastics. Up until Thursday, Missouri had never qualified to the national final and would become the ninth team to do so with a victory here today.

Led by all-around champion Jordan Bowers, Oklahoma will start this meet on beam, where it had some struggles at semifinals. It ends on one of its best events in bars. UCLA starts on floor and ends on beam, the same rotation the Bruins had the last time they won the national championship. Look for newly minted event champions Jordan Chiles and Brooklyn Moors to make some noise early just as they did at semifinals. Missouri has Olympic order and has to find some sticks on vault to keep itself in contention. Helen Hu takes the beam for her final routine in rotation three, so have your tissues ready. Utah gets one of its weaker events, bars, out of the way early; the Red Rocks soared on bars at semifinals, but it will be interesting to see if they can repeat that feat here this afternoon. Grace McCallum has been exceptional on bars for the Red Rocks during the postseason and will be needed if Utah wants to end its title drought.

Intros are done, let’s have one more day of fun, shall we?

Rotation 1: Missouri VT, Utah UB, Oklahoma BB, UCLA FX

Missouri VT

Griffin: Y full, nice high block off the table, some knee form, tiny hop back. 9.7750

Tanskanen: Tsuk full, not quite as much height as Griffin’s previously, small step back on the landing. 9.8125

Tisler: Y full, BIG height and a gorgeous block! Small hp back on the landing. 9.8000

Horton: Y 1.5, good twisting position off the table, had the stick, has to take a step out of it! 9.8375

Moore: Y 1.5, big block, hop foward on the landing.  9.8500

Celestine: Y 1.5, most controlled landing of the six, small hop forward. Not how Missouri wants to start if they want to shock everyone. 9.900, highest score of the rotation for the Tigers, drops the 9.775 from Griffin.

Utah (UB)

M. Smith: hits her Van Leeuwen, pretty final handstand, toe on pike half dismount, stuck with a bit of a low chest. 9.8875

Glynn: Pretty first handstand, Maloney to bail, hits her handstand position on the low bar, blind full to double tuck, stumbles out of it and lands low. 9.6875

Neff: clear hip to Geinger to immediate overshoot, nice straight arms on the catch. Goes for the full twisting DLO with a small step on the landing. 9.8250

Morgan: Maloney to Bhardwaj, does well to catch it on the low bar, hits her handstand on the low bar, stalder to front tuck half dismount, bit of a low chest, but doesn’t move her feet. 9.8750

Zirbes: Blind to straddle Jaeger, nice swing out of it to immediate overshoot. Maybe a tad short on the final handstand? Blind full to double tuck dismount with a stick. 9.9125

McCallum: Pak salto is goregous, Van Leeuwen back up to high bar, hits her final handstand, nails her dismount. Good start for Utah will drop the 9.6875 from Glynn. 9.9500

Oklahoma (BB)

Davis: BHS LOSO nailed it. Front aerial was solid. Shows off so much flexbility with her skills, ends with a stuck double twist. 9.9000

Fatta: BHS LOSO, lifts her front ever so slightly after the layout. Hitch kick switch side, nice height above the beam. Leaps looked right at 180, BHS gainer full, tiniest scoot back on the landing. 9.9000

Pederson: She fell on this routine at semis, let’s see what she does today. Nails the BHS LOSO series, hitch kick to switch side, nails the skill she fell on at semis, sticks her dismount! What a comeback routine! 9.9375

Bowers: Nails the series, looked like she might’ve had a little nerves at the beginning, but keeps on moving. Sticks her double twist cold. Sooners on fire on the beam to start! 9.9375

Wells: side aerial to two feet, nails. Little balance adjustment after her aerial, trying not to repeat the wobbles she had on Thursday. Small hop on the dismount. 9.8500

Torrez: Side aerial LOSO, small lean to the side afterwards. Switch leap straddle jump, tiny adjustment between skills, BHS gainer full dismount with a stick. 9.9375

UCLA (FX)

Rosen: Double tuck to open, nice controlled step back. Lacked a bit of height on her leap series. The routine is giving Pauline Tratz vibes and I don’t hate it. Back 1.5 front layout to close.  9.8875

McGowan: Tucked full-in first pass, nice control on that landing. Really pretty straddle position on the leap series! UCLA’s fan section is already really into this and I love it. Back 1.5 to front full, big rise out of the front full. 9.8875

Malabuyo: Double pike to open, steps forward out of it. Hits the leap series, finishes her routine with lots of fun choreography to the cheers of the Bruin faithful! 9.8750

Campbell: Opens big, nice controlled landing. FHS front layout front full second pass, finishes with her double tuck. The crowd is loving UCLA’s choreography! 9.9250

Moors: Beautiful opening pass. Switch leap switch half wolf full, gorgeous! FHS Rudi, ugh, does she have to be done? 9.9375

Chiles: DLO to open, stuck it COLD. Playing up her choreography to the crowd perfectly. Love that dive roll. Front through to double tuck, controlled step back. Ends a killer floor rotation for UCLA to start. 9.9750

AFTER ONE: UCLA 49.6125, Oklahoma 49.6125, Utah 49.4500, Missouri 49.2000

It’s tied after one! Oklahoma counts five scores above a 9.9000, while UCLA uses three 9.900s at the end of the rotation to tie with the Sooners after one. Utah had a good rotation and is past its most difficult event; the Red Rocks do have a little ground to make up, but can do it with hits on beam. Missouri needs to find sticks to keep pace with these teams moving forward.

Rotation 2: UCLA VT, Missouri UB, Utah BB, Oklahoma FX

UCLA (VT)

Lee: Y full, nice straight arms on the block, tiny hop back on the landing. 9.8250

Jenkins: Y 1.5, block was a little sideways on the table, takes a side step forward on the landing. 9.8250

Moors: FHS pike half, good form in the air, small hop back. 9.8250

McGowan: Y 1.5, lands a little leg locked, almost like she wasn’t expecting the landing to be when it was. (Almost a MWL repeat from Thursday) 9.8375

Campbell: Y full, stuck. Good height and distance in the air, maybe the tiniest bit of a low chest. 9.9000

Chiles: Half-on half-off, tinest hop back on the landing. 9.9000

Missouri (UB)

Burns: pretty first handstand, blind to straddle Jaeger to immediate overshoot, tiny bit short on her final handstand. DLO dismount with a hop. 9.8250

Horton: clear hip to Maloney to Pak salto, really nice combination, slightly short on some handstands, double layout dismount with a hop forward. 9.7875

Moore: Tkatchev to immediate overshoot, nice height over the high bar. Solid stick on the dismount. 9.8500

Kelly: Piked Tkatchev to immediate overshoot, hits her final handstand, bit close to the bar on the dismount, but gets the landing. 9.7750

Celestine: Maloney to Pak, caught that Maloney SUPER close. Van Leeuwen back up to the high bar, toe on pike half dismount with a stick. 9.8625

Titarsolej: Maloney to Pak, beautiful lines in the air, a gorgeous final handstand, blind full to double tuck dismount with a hop forward. 9.8500

Utah (BB)

Morgan: BHS BHS LOSO, bends over at the waist to save it. Regroups on her next skills, front gainer full dismount with a stick. 9.6875

M. Smith: She had some balance issues during warmups, let’s see if she shook them. BHS LOSO, tiny lean to adjust balance.  Front aerial split jump, no nerves visible now. Gainer pike off the end with the stick and a fun dance move afterwards. 9.8750

McCallum: Good opening to her routine, goes for her series, is off immediately and has to come off. Not what Utah needed, it now counts Morgan’s score. Finishes strong but in a meet this tight, you almost wonder if that puts them out of contention. 9.2875

Neff: Following McCallum’s fall, Neff has to reset the Red Rocks here. Hits her series, bit of a balance check before the Shushunova, BHS gainer full dismount with a stick. 9.8500

Padurariu: Beautiful double wolf turn to open. Front aerial BHS, nice straight legs little bit of bent arms. Split jump sheep jump, little balance check afterward. Gainer pike off the end with a stick. Blows kisses to the Utah fans afterwards. 9.9000

Gantner: Replacing Winger in the lineup and has a good routine going so far. Hits her series, makes a tiny correction after the full turn. RO 1.5 dismount, sticks it but has to lean forward to keep the stick. 9.8750

Oklahoma (FX)

Davis: FHS front double full, close to that line but stays. Switch half wolf full, pretty rotation. Back 1.5 front full, pretty large step out of it, but nothing major. 9.8875

Sievers: Double pike to open, comes right back with her second pass, nails the landing on that one too. Switch side straddle half, good toe point. I always forget how much choreography comes after each of these passes but overall good job! 9.9125

Mueller: Front tuck through to double tuck to open, super floaty in the air. Nice tight twist in the air on the second pass. Little out of control on the rotation in her leaps. 9.9000

Fatta: Pretty opening pass to split jump. Front through to double twist, hops backwards out of it and she was CLOSE to that line.Switch leap switch side straddle full, cheats the rotation a little bit on that last skill. 9.8500

Bowers: Double full punch front open, so much control on that landing. Double pike was gorgeous, hits a beautiful routine and gets a standing ovation from the Sooner faithful for her final floor routine. 9.9250

Torrez: DLO to open, good height and nice control. Front through to double tuck, another solid landing, maybe a little short of rotation on her L hop full? Oklahoma will have the lead at the halfway point with that floor rotation. 9.9625

AFTER TWO: Oklahoma 99.2000, UCLA 98.9000, Utah 98.6375, Missouri 98.3750

After being tied for the lead after one rotation, Oklahoma takes a three-tenth lead over the Bruins with a solid floor rotation of its own. UCLA, like Missouri, couldn’t stick many vaults, something it will have to do if it has a chance of passing the Sooners today.

Whoever the kid in the blue wig is in the UCLA fan section, you’re my new favorite.

Rotation 3: Oklahoma VT, UCLA UB, Missouri BB, Utah FX

Oklahoma (VT)

Pederson: Y 1.5, bit of bent elbows on the block, small step forward on the landing. 9.8625

Torrez: Y 1.5, stuck it. Tiny bit of elbow bend off the table. 9.9375

Wells: Y 1.5, very clean block off the table, tiny hop forward on the landing. 9.9000

Fatta: Y 1.5, clean block, lacked a little bit of height, small hop forward on the landing. 9.9250

Mueller: Y 1.5, another BIG block, overrotates and takes a step forward. 9.8125

Bowers: Y 1.5, some noticeable bend, big hop forward on the landing. 9.7375

UCLA (UB)

Campbell: short on the first handstand, Maloney was good, blind to double front dismount with a stick. 9.8625

McGowan: Another one I missed because people picked NOW to get up. 9.8250

Rosen: Pretty routine so far, tiny bit short on the final handstand, DLO with a stick. UCLA sticking landings well on bars so far. 9.8625

Malabuyo: Maloney to Pak, pretty half pirouette, nice final handstand with another stick on the dismount! 9.8875

Esparza: Maloney to Bhardwaj, hands slipped a bit on the catch, goes back up to the high bar, does the DLO, knees buckled a bit on the landing but keeps it on her feet. 9.7625

Chiles: Pretty handstand on the low bar, nice HIGH double layout with a stick. Drops Esparza’s 9.7625. 9.9625

Missouri (BB)

Wier: Missed most of this routine thanks to people in front of me finding their seats, sorry! 🙁 (she stuck her dismount though) 9.5500 with a 9.7000 start value.

Well, there’s a judges conference going on right now and of course I can’t tell you what it’s about since the people in front of me STOOD UP. Ends up as a 9.5500

Celestine: After a LONG wait, she finally gets to start her routine. Hits her punch front solidly. Split leap split 3/4, sticks the dismount. Even with the long wait, she killed it. 9.8625

Jackson: Front aerial BHS series, slight pause but nothing major. Switch leap switch half right at 180. Gainer pike with a stick! 9.8625

Lawrence: Side aerial BHS, little lean after the BHS. Beautiful flexibility and extension, RO 1.5 with a step foward and a dab to the camera. 9.8500

Kelly: And AGAIN with the people standing in front of me!!! RO 1.5 dismount, leans to keep the stick. 9.8125

And the whole arena will be watching nothing but Helen Hu’s final beam routine. You cannot convince me this wasn’t planned.

Hu: Ugh her toe point. Beautiful leg up turn. Front aerial front aerial series, nice and flowy. Split leap split 3/4, flexibility is gorgeous, Gainer pike off the end. That was probably better than her routine from Thursday, and I’m 95% sure she just did a death drop split on the mat after the dismount, I couldn’t tell with the standing ovation she got from the people in front of me. 9.9625, the people are MAD MAD.

Utah (FX)

Glynn: Nails the front double full to start. Back 1.5 front layout, was worried she didn’t have quite enough punch out of it, but she gets it around. 9.8750

Zirbes: FHS front double full with a stick. Switch half straddle, high amplitude in the leaps. Back 1.5 front full, some knee bend in the front full. 9.9000

Neff: Front double full punch front to open, switch side straddle full, really nice rotation, no question she got that around.  Front full front full final pass. 9.9125

Gilstrap: Not ready for this to be her final floor. FLO front 1.5, really close to the line but keeps it in. LOVE the extension in her split leaps! Front layout front full final pass. 9.9000

M. Smith: FHS front double full punch front, off center on the punch front. I always get nervous she’s going to mistime the punch into the layout, but nope, she hits it spot on. 9.8875

McCallum: Tucked full-in to open nice and controlled. Front through to double tuck, overpowers and has to take a hop back. Just not her meet today. 9.7875

AFTER THREE: Oklahoma 148.6375, UCLA 148.3000, Utah 148.1125, Missouri 147.7250

Barring a major disaster on bars for Oklahoma, this should be over, but never say never. Utah seemed to find sticks on vaults when it needed it in semis, we’ll see if it can do it again. UCLA heads to beam and Missouri is on floor. KJ Kindler did say on Thursday that Oklahoma is a 49.600 bars team though it didn’t show it, so we will see how this comes to an end.

Rotation 4: Utah FX, Oklahoma UB, UCLA BB, Missouri FX

Utah (VT)

Gilstrap:  Y full, beautiful block off the table, tiniest hop back on the landing. 9.7750

McCallum: Y 1.5, tries really hard to stick it like she did the other day, ends up taking a step. 9.8250

Neff: Y 1.5, best one she has done all year. Good height and distance with the stick. 9.9750

Glynn: Y 1.5, overrotates and has to take a step back. 9.7000

M. Smith: Omelianchik, good pike position in the air, small step forward on the landing. 9.8500

Z. Johnson: Y 1.5, missed her block off the table and lands on her back. 8.7500

Oklahoma (UB)

Sievers: Maloney to Pak, pretty positions throughout. Nails the final handstand, full twisting double tuck dismount with a stick. One hit down. 9.8750

Pederson: Maloney to Pak, nice. Really pretty final handstand, DLO dismount stuck. 9.8000

Fatta: Pak salto to low bar, the tiniest bit short on that final handstand, looked like she hopped back on the double layout every so slightly. 9.8375

Torrez: Ray, short on the handstand immediately afterwards, maybe a touch short on the handstand right after it? Stick on the dismount. Scores not where the Sooners would like, hopefully it doesn’t make a difference in the end. 9.8500

Davis: A moment for this being her final routine EVER. Sooners likely have this locked, but let’s see what happens here. Higgins to piked Jaeger, some arm bend. Hits her transition to low bar well, better dismount than she had at semis. 9.9250

Bowers: Blind to Jaeger, pretty Pak salto, hits her final handstand. Small step on her dismount, but it shouldn’t matter, the Sooners will walk away with the title. 9.8875

UCLA (BB)

Lee: Front aerial split jump, really nice connections. BHS LOSO, nailed. Had some issues on this routine at semis, but not today. BHS gainer full with a stick. Bruins not going away quietly. 9.9250

Rosen: Switch leap split jump, nice extension and amplitude. Fights to stay on with the Onodi, lifts her leg. Regroups with the BHS LOSO series. RO 1.5 dismount, leans to keep the stick. If the Bruins want a chance at this, they have to drop this score. 9.7250

Chiles: BHS LOSO, very nice. Cat leap switch side, lots of confidence in that connection. Beautiful side aerial, stick on the double twist. 9.9375

Campbell: Leg lift after the BHS LOSO, another balance check as she keeps moving through this routine. Cartwheel gainer full with a stick. Good but not great. 9.6875

Alipio: Nails her triple series, good height and extension on her leaps. Takes a step out of her tucked gainer full. 9.7875

Malabuyo: BHS LOSO , really nice job. Front aerial beat jump, slight hesitation but tries to keep moving. Bit of a lean to keep her balance. BHS gainer full dismount with a stick. 9.9375

Missouri (FX)

Light: Back 1.5 front full to open. Missouri fans getting into the rhythm here! Double pike to close, got to be proud of the effort Missouri has put in today. 9.7625

Horton: Hits her opening pass, really close to the line. Nice amplitude on the leap series. Final pass was good, nice hit. 9.8375

Tanskanen: Tucked full-in, great control on that landing. Back 1.5 front full, not a ton of rise on the front full but not bad overall. 9.8875

Celestine: Tucked full-in to open, keeps it just in bounds. Lacked some amplitude on her leaps. Front through to double tuck, nice controlled step back. 9.9125

Griffin: Double pike to open, big height and amplitude in the air. Front through to stuck double tuck. Leaps were pretty solid as well. 9.9500

Moore: Double layout to open, big rise on the second layout. Good extension in her leap series. Getting the crowd into it before her last tumbling pass. Hits her double tuck, could that see Missouri slide into third? 9.9000

FINAL: Oklahoma 198.0125, UCLA 197.6125, Utah 197.2375, Missouri 197.2125

Oklahoma is back at the top and claims its seventh team title in program history. It wasn’t a 49.6000 like Kindler might’ve wanted, but it’s enough to get the job done. UCLA slides in as the national runner-up with Utah and Missouri neck and neck at the end, but in a last second inqiury, Amy Wier’s beam score is raised to a 9.850 and the Tigers will take third over Utah! WOW!

VT: Neff (Utah) – 9.9750

UB: Chiles (UCLA) – 9.9625

BB: Hu (Missouri) – 9.9625

FX: Chiles (UCLA) – 9.9750

AA: Chiles (UCLA) – 39.7750

  1. I love the symmetry of UCLA starting on floor and ending on beam—feels like a sign that they’re ready to replicate the success they had last time they won it all.
