Missouri Gymnastics Head Coach Shannon Welker Secures Contract Extension Through 2029

Missouri Director of Athletics Laird Veatch announced head gymnastics coach Shannon Welker’s contract was extended through 2029.

Welker has transformed Missouri gymnastics since taking over in 2013, elevating the Tigers into a national contender. Over his tenure, Missouri has become a fixture in postseason competition, including the past four consecutive seasons where the Tigers advanced to the regional final. His leadership has also seen the program achieve multiple top-10 finishes and numerous individual accolades for his athletes.

Ahead of the 2025 campaign, Welker has bolstered the Tigers’ roster with the nation’s top-ranked transfer class, featuring four high-impact gymnasts, along with five talented freshmen poised to make immediate contributions. The team also celebrates the return of two-time All-American and three-time All-SEC gymnast Helen Hu, who will use her final year of eligibility to compete for Missouri.

Welker’s ability to recruit and develop talent has solidified Missouri’s reputation as a force in collegiate gymnastics, and his vision for the program continues to push boundaries. With this contract extension, the Tigers are well-positioned for sustained success in the years ahead.
