Illinois State Sophomore Nirel Bart-Williams Pleads Guilty to Fourth-Degree Assault

After being charged with second-degree sexual abuse in January, Illinois State sophomore Nirel Bart-Williams pled guilty to the lesser-included offense of fourth-degree assault at a hearing held in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on April 8.

Bart-Williams withdrew her previously entered plea of not guilty at the hearing and entered a guilty plea to the lesser charge. Circuit Judge Frank E. Miller imposed a sentence of 15 days in jail, but suspended that sentence and placed Bart-Williams on probation for a period of two years. A condition of her probation is to have no contact, direct or otherwise, with the victim of the offense.

Following Illinois State’s January 7 meet at Bowling Green, at which she competed in the all-around, Bart-Williams did not appear in any meets for the remainder of the season. The Redbirds ended the 2024 season as a team with a third-place finish at the MIC championship.
