LIVE BLOG: Gainesville Regional Final

The top two teams will punch their ticket to Fort Worth at the end of this meet. With Florida being a top seed at home, the Gators will be favored to go through, but anything is possible as every team has the potential to pull off an upset. This session will also tell us which individuals will qualify out of Gainesville as the top event scorer and all arounder from Friday’s competition that do not qualify with their team, will also punch a ticket to Fort Worth for a shot at an individual national title.

Rotation 1: Michigan State vault, Utah bars, Florida beam, Missouri floor

Schulte (MSU): Great square block off the table on her full with a controlled landing. Good height. 9.85

Smith (UU): High pak to start. Great handstand before the VL, but goes over on the next handstand and has to giant half to correct. Sticks the front pike half dismount. 9.5

Tucker (MSU): Under on the Y1.5 with a large step back. Lacked the rotation. 9.825

Blakely (UF): Smooth front aerial to bhs. Feet on the split leap to switch half to beat jump. Hit the full turn. Stucks the gainer full. 9.925

Kratzer (UMO): Controlled the whip thorught to double tuck. Around on the leaps. Controlled the double pike as well. Stuck the back 1.5 to front layout. 9.85

Zsarmani (MSU): Stuck the Y1.5. Great amplitude and body position. 9.95

Morgan (UU): Leg separations on the Maloney to Bhardwaj as well as the VL. Small shuffle on the stander tucker front half dismount. 9.825

Stephen (MSU): Some knees in the Y1.5 and a large step forward, but good dynamics. 9.825

Nguyen (UF): Connects the Onodi to bhs. Great positions in the switch to split. Sticks the back 1.5 with some knees. 9.925

O’Keefe (UU): Alomst overdoes the first cast, but hits the Maloney to pak. Slightly over on the cast half, but sticks the double arabian. 9.875

Smith (MSU): Sits the Y1.5 9.4

Wong (UF): Smooth switch to split leap. Solid loso series. Wobble on the front aerial. Hits the side somi. Kicks the side of the beam on her dismount, so she has to bend her knees in the double twist, but only takes a small hop. 9.8

Kellerman (MSU): Sticks her front pike half. Not the most distance, but great form in the air. 9.975

Lazzari (UF): Soft knees in the bhs loso loso. Clean switch to split. Adjustment on the full turn. Sticks the gainer full 9.95

Sabado has a fall on the overshoot so Utah is counting a low score.

Moore (UMO): A couple steps on the double layout landing. Great height on the switch half to Popa to Popa. Got the rotations around well. Controls the front through to double tuck. 9.875

After 1: Florida 49.600, Missouri 49.525, Michigan State 49.425, Utah 48.975

Utah finds itself in an early hole due to a missed cast by Smith in the lead off needing to be counted. Missouri will like be second after floor, but will have to keep that momentum up on vault. Michigan State had a strong vault rotation and will be happy with its start, as will Florida who put up a great beam score.

Rotation 2: Missouri vault, Michigan State bars, Utah beam, Florida floor

Schulte (MSU): Soft knees in the shaposh to solid bail. Bounce back on the double layout. 9.725

Morgan (UU): Soft knees, but secure on the bhs bhs loso. Slow connection between the switch and switch half. Hit the full turn. Sticks the gainer front full dismount. 9.9

Davis (UMO): Slight leg separation pre flight, but great form post flight on the Yfull. Small hop back. 9.8

Zsarmani (MSU): High pak. Feet on the Maloney to geinger combo. Step forward on the double layout. 9.75

Lazzari (UF): Controlled the step out of the front double full. Around on the triple jump combo. Controlled back 1.5 to front layout with clean twisting form. 9.9

Kellerman (MSU): Not the highest jaeger, but great toe point. Hit the bail. Step forward on the double layout. 9.775

McCallum (UU): Hit the triple and double wolf turns. Falls on the bhs loso series… 9.35

Pilgrim (UF): Not the most height, but controlled on the back 1.5 to double tuck. Clean tour jete half to split full. Slide back on the double pike. 9.95

Celestine (UMO): Great height on her Y1.5 and sticks the landing. 9.925

Stephen (MSU): Clean Maloney to bail. Large step back on the FTDT. 9.775

Blakely (UF): High front tuck through to double tuck. Did not fully keep the front foot in place. Not quite at the ring position in the switch to switch ring half. Controls the step out of the back 1.5 to front full. 9.9

O’Keefe (UU): Clean switch to split leap. Feet on the side aerial loso. Small hop back on the gainer full. 9.95

Horton (UMO): Large hop back on her Y1.5. Didn’t have the height or rotation. 9.8

Harkness (MSU): Legs glued on the geinger and bail. Hop back on the FTDT. 9.85

Gilstrap (UU): Hit the wolf turn. Small adjustment on the cat leap to front aerial. Small lean on the bhs back pike. Great positions on the switch to split. Low chest and hop forward on the gainer full. 9.875

Wong (UF): Low chest on the double layout, but controlled the landing. Slighlty off on the rotation for the switch half to Popa. Controlled the whip half to front full. 9.95

After 2: Florida 99.250, Missouri 98.800, Utah 98.450, Michigan State 98.425

Florida and Missouri were able to keep the momentum going on floor and vault respectively. Michigan State was hampered by vault landings which allowed Utah to make up ground on beam after replacing a mid lineup fall.

Rotation 3: Florida vault, Missouri bars, Michigan State beam, Utah floor

Draser (UF): Sticks her Y1.5, won’t be the biggest in the lineup, but the judges will only care about the landing. 9.925

Burns (UMO): Great height in the jaeger to overshoot combination. Feet on the double layout and low chest to hold the stick. 9.825

Smith (UU): Controls the step out of the front double full. Fun leap combo, but not sure of rotation. Hit the Rudi to back layout. Hit the Rudi to straddle jump. 9.9

Tucker (MSU): Great height on the front aerial bhs combo. Hit the split jump to split 3/4s. Feet on the cat leap to side aerial. Waiver on the full turn. Stepped into the salute on the gainer full. 9.85

Pilgrim (UF): Great height, but soft knees on her Y1.5. Hop to the side. 9.875

Paulson (UU): Stuck the back 1.5 to back 2.5. Clean front layout to front full. Hit the jump combo. Practically stuck the back 1.5 to front layout too. 9.95

Smith (MSU): Balance check on the loso series. Hesitant switch to split quarter. Low chest and step forward on the double back. 9.75

Marshall (UMO): Feet on the jaeger and lack of body tension on the overshoot. Small scooch back on the sky high FTDT. 9.875

Rucker (UU): Hops forward on the FTDT. Hit the switch to switch full. Controlled the back 1.5 to front layout. 9.85

Schreiber (UMO): Legs glued on the Maloney to bail. Hop back on the double layout. 9.85

Gilstrap (UU): Controlled the front layout to Rudi. Hit both the switch full and tour jete half. Hit the front layout front full. 9.95

Garcia (MSU): Falls on the loso series. Hits the front aerial to split jump. Clean switch to split. Hop back on the gainer full. 9.275

Lazzari (UF): Twisted early off the table on her Y1.5 and hops forward. 9.925

O’Keefe (UU): Controls the double pike. Great twisting form and control on the front layout to front full. Great toe point in leap positions. Hits the back 1.5 to front layout. 9.925

Stephen (MSU): Feet on the piked front toss. Falls on the loso series. Scooch back on the back double full. 9.325

Titarsolej (UMO): Perfect Maloney to pak combo. Great handstands and small hop back on the double tuck. 9.875

McCallum (UU): Steps forward on the FTDT. Not completely controlled on the switch to tour jete half to wolf full. Slight leg crossing in the front layout to Rudi. 9.9

After 3: Florida 148.825, Missouri 148.075, Utah 148.075, Michigan State 147.100

Michigan State counting a fall on beam, likely takes the Spartans out of the race. While Florida is quite a bit ahead, the second spot between Missouri and Utah is as close as it gets. Utah has an NQS of 49.430 on vault, while Missouri has an NQS of 49.295 on beam, so Utah will like its chances, but this will come down to landings.

Rotation 4: Utah vault, Florida bars, Missouri beam, Michigan State floor

McCallum (UU): Feet on the half on half off with a large hop back. 9.85

Davis (UMO): Clean full turn. Nice toe point on the loso series. Big wobble on the front toss. Slighlty short of positions on the straddle to sheep. Sticks the sky high gainer full. 9.8

Zirbes (UU): Early bending of the knees and a large step back on her Y1.5. 9.85

Nguyen (UF): Clean Maloney to pak combo. Vertical cast half. Sky high double layout, but hops forward. 9.85

Light (UMO): Falls on the acro series. Lean on the full turn. Not fully rotated on the leaps. Hop forward on the gainer pike. 9

Glynn (UU): Great distance on her Y1.5 with a large step forward. 9.9

Lazzari (UF): Low tkachev, but good toe point. High pak. Hit the cat half. Hop forward on the FTDT. 9.875

Griffin (UMO): Lean on the front toss. Repeats it to connect to the bhs. Hits the switch to switch jump to beat jump. Hop forward on the back 1.5. 9.775

Smith (UU): Great height on her Omelianchik and stuck it. 9.95

Pilgrim (UF): Clean Maloney to pak. Hit the handstands. Feet on the FTDT, but stuck. 9.925

Harkness (MSU): Slid the front foot on the full in. Great rotation on the leap combo. Controlled the front tuck through to double tuck. 9.9

Rucker (UU): Great height on her Y1.5 and stuck the landing with a lean. Not the best distance. 9.95

Draser (UF): Hit the Maloney to pak. Vertical cast half. Leans forward to hold the double layout stick. 9.9

Celestine (UMO): Hit the wolf turn. Just does a solo bhs. Connects to the side aerial the second time with some feet. Solid front tuck. Clean split to split 3/4s. Stuck the gainer full. 9.875

Gilstrap (UU): Flairs open too early and takes a large step forward on her Yfull. 9.625

Wong (UF): Clean Maloney to pak. Great height on the VL. Holds the double layout stick with a lean. 9.925

Schreiber (UMO): Hit the full turn. Solid loso series. Solid switch half to split jump. Sticks the gainer full with a lean. 9.95

Schulte (MSU): Wonky legs on the FTFT but sticks it. Clean switch half to Popa to straddle. Sticks the front through to double tuck. 9.95

A nervy beam rotation and great vault rotation led to Utah taking that second spot to nationals alongside Florida. With Florida and Utah advancing that means Lily Smith will be going to nationals in the all around along with Emma Silberman on vault, Mara Titarsolej on bars, Nikki Smith on beam and Jocelyn Moore on floor.

  1. Can someone please grade the scoring in this meet on all rounds! This was the most inconsistent scoring I have witnessed. I would love to hear your honest feedback on how these meets are judged
