LIVE BLOG: Pac-12 Championship Session Two

The last Pac-12 Championship will be awarded at the end of this meet. Next season these teams will be spread out amongst other conferences fighting for different titles. For now, the teams in this session will be trying to outscore the teams from session one enroute to a conference title and an NQS improving team score.

Session two will feature No. 2 California, No. 5 Utah, No. 11 UCLA, and No. 17 Oregon State. California will be looking to maintain the second seed, and will need a 198.550 to keep that spot if LSU scores a season high. Utah has the opportunity to pass Florida, but that won’t change the regional seedings. The goal for Utah would be to not get passed by Kentucky which would require a 198.075 no matter what Kentucky scores. UCLA is still counting a 197.100 away score and can get a boost in the rankings with a score close to a season high. Oregon State will be trying to push for a regional seed and replacing the 196.775 will be key.

Regional implications are not the only thing to watch for as there are individual Pac-12 titles to be handed out. Jade Carey competing in the all around again will push the California duo of eMjae Frazier and Mya Lauzon for the title. Selena Harris just scored 10s on vault and bars last week and will be in the running on both events. The California bars lineup always sets up Madelyn Williams for a strong score and will be the favorite. The beam competition will be fierce, but eyes should be on the reigning national champion Maile O’Keefe. Chae Campbell has not competed on floor all season, but got a 10 on senior night and will be seeking that title.

Rotation 1: California vault, Utah bars, UCLA beam, Oregon State floor

Williams (CAL): Slightly off on the shoulder angle on the block of her yfull, but clean leg form and small hop back. 9.8

Lee (UCLA): Slow connection between the front aerial and split jump. Lovely buffer on my stream. Solid loso series. Good positions in the switch to straddle. Hits the full turn. Looked to be off centered on the gainer full dismount landing, but stuck it. 9.925

Zirbes (UU): Great first handstand. Hit the Ray to pak with good distance from the bar. Small stutter on the landing of the FTDT. Good toe point throughout. 9.9

Rosen (UCLA): Smooth switch to split to stag. Slight adjustment on the front aerial. Bent elbows on the loso series. Wobble on the full turn, but trys to cover it. Sticks the back 1.5. 9.875

Frazier (CAL): Off to the side on the table on her Ydouble. Travels off to the side with it as well. Soft knees and a hop back. 9.9

Morgan (UU): Hit the Maloney to Bhardwaj. Her typical wonkey form on that. Hit the front half dismount with a stick. 9.925

Andres (UCLA): Hit the beat to switch half. Feet on the front toss and off center on the bhs swingdown. Feet on the double full dismount and almost has the landing before needing to take a step back. 9.775

This stream hates Oregon State

Lauzon (CAL): Great block off the table, soft knees and slighlty close hips throughout her Y1.5. Large hop forward. 9.8

O’Keefe (UU): Slight leg separation on the Maloney to pak. Ended up doing a full turn on the cast half attempt and had to redo it. Sticks the double arabian dismount though. 9.8

After 1: Oregon State 49.550, Utah 49.500, UCLA 49.475, California 49.175

California is in a hole after the first event fue to the lack of stuck landings. Luckily, the Golden Bears are going to bars and can make up some of that deficit. Oregon State capatalized on a strong event to take the lead narrowly, but this meet is close after one.

Rotation 2: Oregon State vault, California bars, Utah beam, UCLA floor

Lauzon (CAL): Rushed first cast. Clean Maloney to pak. Hit the cast half. Holds on to the stick of the FTDT with an arm swing. 9.85

Rosen (UCLA): Piked down the double layout a little at the end and controlled the landing. Perched forward into thelunge on the double pike. Not the highest. Good positions on the switch ring to switch half. Good height on the back 1.5 to front layout to front tuck. Controlled the step out. 9.9

Morgan fell in the leadoff for Utah

Smith (UU): Fun straddle in the candle mount. Smooth hitch to front aerial to split jump. Good toe point on the loso series with a large leg up check. Check on the straddle quarter as well. Sticks the gainer full. 9.725

Frazier (UCLA): High whip through to double tuck and barely stays in bounds. Great height on the triple jump combo. The rotations on the two Popas was around. Feet on the double pike and hopped into the lunge. 9.8

Li (CAL): Huge jaegaer. High pak salto. Gets the giant full handstand, but takes a small step back on the double tuck. 9.85

Buckner (OSU): Deep landing and soft knees throughout on the Y1.5. Stuck the landing though. 9.9

Moors (UCLA): Some leg crossing on the front double full to front tuck. Controlled step out. My stream paused for like 5 seconds after that pass. Floaty loso. Hit the switch to switch half to wolf full. Controlled the Rudi. 9.95

Frazier (CAL): Clean Maloney, whips the pak a little. Sticks the double layout dismount. Great height on that. 9.925

Harris (UCLA): Floated the double layout and contolled the lunge. Hit the tour jete half to split full. High double tuck with a clean landing. Hit the back 1.5 to front half to stag. The jump was alittle out of control, but not too bad. 9.95

Carey (OSU): Great height on her yfull, big bounce on the landing. 9.875

Perea (CAL): Almost missed her hand on the pak. Great height on the VL. Held on the to double layout dismount landing with a slight wobble. 9.9

O’Keefe (UU): Great split positions on the switch to split leap. Feet on the side aerial loso. Slight shoulder dip on the full turn. Sticks the gainer full. 10

Williams (CAL): Great form on the Maloney to pak. Great handstands. Hop back on the double layout. 9.9

Campbell (UCLA): Feet on the full in and large lunge back on the full in. Great landing on the tour jete half to Popa. Normal size step out of the front layout to front full. High double tuck, but takes the step forward. 9.925

After 2: UCLA 99.100, Utah 98.800, Oregon State 98.775, California 98.600

California continued to have a small error on each routine that led to a lower team total than what the Golden Bears were looking for. Utah also was not able to capatalize on beam with a shaky first half of the rotation. Oregon State was held back, by a couple of lowers scores. UCLA got the big number this rotation that propelled the Bruins to a lead at the halfway point.

Rotation 3: UCLA vault, Oregon State bars, California beam, Utah floor

Lee (UCLA): Not the highest Yfull, but got form in the air and wobbled on the landing while holding the stick. 9.8

Li (CAL): The scale is so pretty. Clean front aerial to loso. I would not connect the front to back, but they will. Small shoulder dip on the split to ring jump. Sticks the tucked gainer full off the end. 9.9

Rosen (UCLA): She is dancing to Smith’s floor music. Good height on her Y1.5. Soft knees near the end. Small hop forward. 9.875

Briones (OSU): No leg separation on the Maloney, but pretty sizable one on the pak. Pikes down the double layout dismount, but sticks it. 9.8

Paulson (UU): High front tuck through to back 2.5. Controlled the step out. Almost flew away on the front layout front full to stag. Hit the leap combo. Sticks the back 1.5 to front layout. Has to arch the last salto a bit. 9.95

Campbell (UCLA): Her typical high yfull, but tried too hard to stick and takes a couple hops forward. 9.75

Cesario (CAL): Waiver on the full turn. My stream buffered in the middle on the loso series. It looks like she had a wobble on the end of that. It skipped over the leap combo when it resumed though. Sticks the back 1.5. 9.8

Reed (UCLA): Knees throughout the Y1.5. Large step forward and off to the side over the line. 9.825

Frazier (CAL): Extends the front leg out of the full turn. Wobble on the front aerial. Bent elbows and feet on the loso series. Falls on the switch ring. Almost saved it with a large wobble, but comes off. Hits the split to ring. Sticks the back 1.5. 9.4

Harris (UCLA): My stream buffered straight to the reaction which made it seem like a stuck Y1.5 since everyone is cheering for a ten. 9.975

Lauzon (CAL): Hit the wolf turn. Solid bhs bhs loso series. Clean switch the split positions. Solid landing too. Takes a couple steps back on the double full dismount. 9.85

O’Keefe (UU): Great height and landing on the double pike. Didn’t flex her feet on that either. Solid landing on the front layout front full. Hit the switch to switch ring half. Great rise on the front layout out of the back 1.5. Controlled that landing too. 9.95

Carey (OSU): Great form in the Maloney to Bhardwaj. Hit the VL. Scooted back on the FTDT landing. 9.95

McCallum (UU): Feet on the full in, but controlled the landing. Switch through to tour jete half to split full was clean. Feet and leg crossing on the front layout to Rudi. Controlled the lunge. 9.925

After 3: Utah 148.500, UCLA 148.475, Oregon State 148.225, California 147.800

Utah went lights out on floor to get right back into position to fight for the title with UCLA in the last rotation. Oregon State had a strong rotation, just not a stellar one like that of Utah. California is likely out of it after uncharcteristic performances throughout the evening.

Rotation 4: Utah vault, UCLA bars, Oregon State beam, California floor

Winger (UU): Some knees and a deep landing on her Y1.5, but sticks the landing. 9.925

Campbell (UCLA): Misses her toes out of the first hanstand and comes off the bar. Hits the Maloney to bail. Cowboys the double front and hops forward. 9.3

Williams (CAL): Controlled the first pass step out. My stream buffered the actual skill. Just shy of the position on the switch ring full. Controlled the step out on the back 1.5 to front layout. Not the most amplitude. 9.875

Malabuyo (UCLA): Small leg separations on the Maloney to pak combo. Feet on the FTDT and stuck the landing. 9.85

Kane (CAL): Clean front full to Rudi and controlled lunge out of it. Clean switch side half to wolf jump. Great positions on those. Arched the front layout out of the front full. Connects the landing to a sissone. 9.9

Rosen (UCLA): Bent elbows on the Maloney to pak. Hit the last handstand and holds the landing of the double layout. 9.9

Smith (UU): Great block and height on the Omelianchik and a large hop on the landing. 9.8

McMillan (OSU): Adjustment on the front toss before the bhs swingdown. Clean full turn. Hit the switch. Split to ring was clean. Sticks the gainer full. 9.85

Rucker (UU): Great amplitude on her Y1.5 with some kees in the air. The smallest step on the landing. 9.95

Frazier (UCLA): Floaty Maloney to pak. Might have been a little short on the last handstand and hops back on the double layout. 9.875

Young (OSU): Feet and a leg up wobble on the front aerial. Falls on the bhs loso series. Feet on that as well. Clean full turn. Hit the split to ring to beat. Sticks the front gainer full dismount. 9.25

McCallum (UU): Not the highest half on half off tucked. Feet on that and a hop back. 9.9

Esparza (UCLA): Clean Maloney to pak. Hit the VL. Not the most on top in these handstands. Hop forward on the double layout. 9.825

Carey (OSU): Wobble on the full turn. Slow connection on the front aerial to bhs loso. Hit the switch to split. Hop back on the gainer full. 9.85

Lauzon (CAL): Big step out of the front double full to punch front. Great switch ring to switch half positions. A little short on the back 1.5 to front layout but managed to step forward. 9.85

Harris (UCLA): Great Ray. Holds the handstand. Hit the bail. Great giant full finish and sticks the double layout dismount. 9.95
