LIVE BLOG: No. 27 Clemson, No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 48 Pennsylvania at No. 53 Texas Woman’s

The best part of the end of the regular season is all of the cross-conference collab quad meets. Tonight’s edition includes first-year team Clemson, the No. 1 team in the country, and the top team in the Ivy League coming to compete deep in the heart of Texas. What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Oklahoma is coming off a GINORMOUS 198.675 last weekend, the head-and-shoulders leading score in the country. This will be a double meet weekend for the Sooners, after taking on Michigan at home on Friday. The “athletes to watch” for Oklahoma are essentially the entire roster, so be prepared to be wowed.

Clemson is making a name for itself in its first season, going over 197 for the first time in program history last weekend. The Tigers’ floor team is top notch, so keep an eye out.

Penn enters the competition having won the Ivy Classic with a meet-best 195.800. Skye Kerico is the new program record holder in the all around, and the beam team is bound to be show stopping for the Quakers.

Texas Woman’s is hitting its stride, earning its first 195 on the road this season last week at Utah State. The Pioneers typically feed well off of the home crowd, so expect some high flying gymnastics from them as well. Keep your eyes peeled in the first rotation because Daisy Woodring is coming off a perfect 9.950 vault score, and no one wants to miss a repeat of that.

Needless to say, tonight’s meet may not be teams who conventionally compete against one another regularly, but it’s bound to be an entertaining night nonetheless. Let’s get this show on the road.

Rotation 1: Texas Woman’s VT, Oklahoma UB, Clemson BB, Pennsylvania FX

Six (TWU): Yurchenko full, some pike down and a scoot back.

Lippeatt (Clem): Front aerial to BHS swing down. Side aerial to split jump. Stunning lines.

Sievers (OU): Maloney, pak salto. Fought for the turn on low bar. Some loss of form. FTDT with a step back.

A. Kenefick (Penn): Double pike with chest nice and high.

A better Yurchenko full from TWU there.

Levasseur (OU): Tkatchev with great turn over. Blind full, double tuck. Stuck-ish with an arm swing.

Brkljacic TWU: Yurchenko full, feet not quite in the right position, hop back still in the pike position.

Clark (Clem): Front tuck. BHS LOSO with a leg up wobble. Straddle, straddle quarter. Missed a leap connection. Punch front full.

Torrez (OU): Toe hand, pak. So floaty. Stuck double layout to finish.

King (TWU): Steady Yurchenko full, some loss of position in the air.

Smith (OU): Ray to pak. Pretty close on the catch. Double layout, absolutely nailed.

Jackson (Clem): BHS LOSO LOSO. On it. Some leg form. Switch leap, cat half? Interesting composition. Back one and a half, pretty big hop.

Davis (OU): Huge Jaeger. Pak salto. The best obviously. Eagle to double front with a half. The best I’ve seen from her. Definitely around and stuck.

Hoiland (TWU): Stunning Yurchenko full.

Bowers (OU): Piked Jaeger, good distance. Floaty pak. Smooth. FTDT. A small foot adjustment.

Scheible (OU ex): Blind, Jaeger. Good turn over. Overshoot. Right to handstand. Casted over.

McCright (Clem): BHS LOSO. On the money. Beat to tuck full. Gainer full with a step back.

S. Kenefick (Penn): Back 2.5 punch front. A touch miss-timed. Great height on the popa connection combo. Front double full. Such a hard pass to finish a routine with.

Church (Clem): BHS LOSO. A little squatty on the landing to manage. Split 3/4. Yes. Side aerial, a sizable wobble. Back 1.5 with a little scooch forward.

Lassiter (Penn): Seizing the moment. Front full, tuck front full. A unique opening combo. Double pike, OOB. Too much power on that one. Strong straddle position on the leaps.

Kuhl (Clem): BHS BHS LOSO. Right to the end. A little bobble. Hitch kick, switch leap, beat jump. Imagine doing beam to Black Eyed Peas. Front toss, lower than I’d like, to beat jump. Back 1.5 to hop forward.

Davies (Penn): Double pike, huge height, a little bouncy out. Front lay, front full. Stuck cold. Yes. Amplitude on that. Penn is writing the book on how to do a technically sound popa. Double tuck, low chest with a forward step out.

Tunney (Penn ex): FTDT, a little stutter step to manage. Although, I’m not sure she needed to. Switch side, popa. Lovely. She is owning this floor performance. Yes ma’am. Back 1.5, front full. Strong difficulty in that routine from Penn.

AFTER ONE: Oklahoma 48.575, Texas Woman’s 49.150, Pennsylvania 48.825, Clemson 48.575

Oklahoma counted a 9.875. Is the world ending? I’m only kidding. OU did leave a couple little mistakes out there, but obviously it killed the game. Audrey Davis added another routine to her 9.975 column. Texas Woman’s posted a vault season high and Pennsylvania started the meet strong on floor, while Clemson will wish it could get a few tenths back on beam. Counting only one score in the 9.8s is likely not what the Tigers had in mind.

Rotation 2: Pennsylvania VT, Texas Woman’s UB, Oklahoma BB,  Clemson FX

Song (Penn): Yurchenko full, some leg form.

Hunt (TWU): Vlind, Jaeger. Pak salto. Nice and smooth. Double tuck is stuck. Some leg form on the blind full preceding.

Davis (OU): Beat, split ring. Best in the country. Obviously. Double full is stuck. Some chest forward.

S. Kenefick (Penn): Chest forward with a hop on the Yurchenko full.

TWU: Piked Jaeger. Short on the HS to overshoot. Some loose form on the catch. Double layout. Strong landing there. Chest nice and high.

Lassiter (Penn): Yurchenko full is flared out. A tiny hop back.

Wells (OU): Side aerial, switch legged. Switch leap is right to 180. A lean on her big skill.

Jackson (Clem): FTDT. HUGE. Lovely. Pardon me. Double tuck. Great set from her. Made it look easy.

Gilmore (TWU): Maloney to pak. Swinging strong. Stalder to double back with a scoot back. Great to see her back in lineup.

Belkoff (Penn): Yurchenko layout half is STUCK. YESSSSS. Loved it. Should score big.

Ferarri (TWU): Blind, Jaeger. Blind, straddle back to HS. double layout. STuck. The Pioneers are on a roll.

Bowers (OU): BHS LOSO. The norm. Amazing. Switch half, right around. A small hop back out of the double full dismount.

Barrow (Penn): Yurchenko full, chest up. Hop back.

Arnold (Clem): Another huge FTDT to open. Finished with a back 2.5 to punch front.

Bowns (TWU): Maloney to overshoot hand was right on. Medium step back out of the blind full to double tuck.

Torrez (OU): A wolf jump just for funsies. Side aerial, LOSO. A leannnn. Switch leap, straddle jump. Great lines. Gainer full is stuck.

Wells (Clem): FTDT. Greatness. Back 1.5 through to double full, right to the lunge.

Hoiland (TWU): Piked Jaeger to open. Blind full to double tuck. Another stick. Like it’s hard?

(Penn ex): A pike down out of the Yurchenko full with a medium hop back.

Levasseur (OU): BHS LOSO. Switch leap, straddle 1/4. BHS gainer full is stuck. Yes.

Bourgeois (TWU): Blind, Jaeger. So huge. Overshoot to HS. FTDT is stuck. Chest up.

Clark (Clem): Tour jete, popa. The most ginormous. Front lay, front full, front tuck. Stuck.

Smith (OU): BHS LOSO. Yes. Great landing. Front aerial, walk right out. Straddle half, BHS swing down. Soft knees. BHS gainer full. Stuck. 10.0 number nine on beam.

Clem: Front double full. OOB on the opening pass. Tuck full. Nothing to see here. Switch side, popa. Rudi, LOSO. So pretty. Floated right to the lunge.

Sullivan (OU ex): BHS LOSO. A leg up wobble with a lean to the side. Looking a touch tentative. Wow. One armed BHS to straddle back hip circle. Gainer front full with a step forward.

AFTER TWO: Oklahoma 99.300, Texas Woman’s 98.275, Clemson 97.925, Pennsylvania 97.700

Apparently Davis bars was retroactively changed to a 10.0? What is this life? Can you just say, “never mind?” Is that how this works now? Anyway, Ragan with another beam 10.0, so update your history books. TWU’s stick spree on bars catapulted it to second place after two rotations. Clemson brought the heat on floor, as anticipated. Penn will look to beam and bars to put some pressure on the competition. I will say, sub 9.8 for that Belkoff vault feels a touch criminal.

Rotation 3: Clemson VT, Pennsylvania UB, Texas Woman’s BB, Oklahoma FX

Wells (Clem): Yurchenko full, great pop off the table. A hop back of the medium variety.

Six (TWU): BHS LOSO. Solid. Strong leap series. Front toss, beat. Smooth connection there. Back 1.5 is stuck.

Davis (OU): Front double full. Danced right out. A little back on her heels on that last pass. Managed fine.

Jackson (Clem): Yurchenko full is dynamic. Chest nice and high on the landing.

Song (Penn): FTDT with a sizable step forward.

Brown (Clem): The tiniest step on the Yurchenko full. Some leg form on the preflight.

Hernandez (TWU): BHS LOSO. Arms right to the lunge. Pretty switch half connection. BHS 1.5 dismount with a pace forward.

Johnson (OU): Double tuck to finish. A touch bouncy. Switch half, wolf full. Lost some back leg in that split position.

Arnold (Clem): Yurchenko 1.5 with a medium hop forward.

Woodring (TWU): BHS LOSO. Another hit one. Switch leap, switch leap, split jump. Front toss. A little around the side, but managed. Back 1.5 with a hop.

FHS front pike half is stuck from Clemson!!

Smith (OU): Back 1.5 front layout with a dance out. Switch side, popa. Dynamic hitting of the positions. Double pike. Didn’t have her feet underneath her quite, chest down and a wild hop out.

Brkljacic (TWU): BHS LOSO. TWU is on today, just saying. Switch leap, switch leap. Front toss to beat, a touch forward.

S. Kenefick. Tkatchev. Huge. Blind full, double full. Stuck. Such a unique dismount.

Levasseur (OU): FTDT is forward with a step. Crowd is clapping along. Switch side, straddle down to the floor. Back 1.5, front layout half, straddle jump. Nice lines.

Paris (Penn): Maloney, overshoot. Great lines. Smoot. Stalder to double tuck. Forward step out.

King (TWU): BHS LOSO. So much amplitude. A veteran. Front tuck. A leg up wobble. Switch leap straddle 1/4. Stuck dismount to finish. Okay, I loved it too, but 9.875 seems excessive?

Torrez (OU): Stunning double layout to open. Another day at the park. Front through to double tuck. Stuck cold.

Gose (TWU): BHS LOSO. And she’s off. Back 1.5 is stuck to finish.

Kerico (Penn): Ray is crazy huge. Wow. Toe hand, overshoot. Some loss of leg form. Short on the last HS. FTDT with a step forward.

Bowers (OU): Front double full to punch front wow. Double pike to finish. Great. In the rafters.

Hoiland (TWU): front aerial with a large wobble out. Front aerial to BHS. Still slow on the connection. Curious about the series credit. Cat leap, side aerial. Back in it. Gainer front full, a small side hop.

Tunney kicked out of her FTDT pretty early and had to take a fall on bars for Penn.

Hawthorne (OU ex): Do you remember? FTDT with a baby hop into the lunge. Grateful to see her opening with an E pass. Switch leap, tour jete full-ish? Faked it around a touch. Let’s groove tonight. Yay for some fun dance. Front lay, Rudi to split jump. Nicely controlled.

AFTER THREE: Oklahoma 148.775, Texas Woman’s 147.375, Clemson 147.150, Pennsylvania 146.300

Oklahoma looked a touch shaky on landings today. I would suspect that’s just the double meet weekend catching up with it a bit. I wouldn’t expect that come post season. Texas Woman’s was on another roll on beam, but ended up having to count a mistake at the end of the rotation. No matter, it was still a season high on the event, and maybe an event record considering how the crowd sounds right about now? Don’t quote me just yet. Clemson came to play on vault, highlighted by a 9.900 from Minner. Pennsylvania had some landing issues on bar dismounts, so the Quakers will look to just finish the meet strong on beam.

Rotation 4: Oklahoma VT, Clemson UB, Pennsylvania BB, Texas Woman’s FX

Torrez (OU): Starting out the rotation with a stick. Let’s see if it’s contagious.

Six (TWU): Front lay, front full. Double tuck. Chest down.

Wells (Clem): Swing half, Tkatchev, overshoot. Connection bonus galore. FTDT. Stuck.

Wells (OU): Full and a half, back on the heels with a step back.

Bowers (OU): Zooming through the floor mat movers is crazy. Yurchenko 1.5 with a step forward. Great shaping.

Jackson (Clem): Right to HS. Blind, Jaeger to overshoot. Close on the Jaeger, so off on the connection timing. FTDT with a hop forward.

Gose (TWU): Double pike. Huge. Switch side, popa, popa. Back 1.5 front lay connection pass.

Levasseur (OU): Yurchenko 1.5, nearly stuck. Paused, then a step forward. Rudi with some loss of control.

Hsu (Penn): BHS LOSO. A small lean back wobble on the leap connection. Back 1.5 dismount with a hop forward.

Stuck FHS front pike half from Scheible. WOW!

Tkatchev to pak is loose in air for Lippeatt. Timing looked off.

DeGuzman (Clem): Blind, Jaeger to overshoot. Perfect distance. Double layout. Stuck… college stick which no longer counts.

Davis (OU): Great execution of the Yurchenko 1.5 off the table. Stuck.

King (TWU): Double pike. A slide back lunge. Back 1.5 front layout. Executed nicely. Switch ring didn’t quite have the head release. Double tuck to finish.

Hawthorne (OU): Yurchenko 1.5 with a pace forward.

Rutherford finished with a double layout on bars for Clemson. Just a hop forward.

A. Kenefick (Penn): BHS BHS LOSO. Yes ma’am. Love a triple series. Switch leap, straddle 1/4. On it. Back 1.5 to finish.

Webb (Clem): Maloney, pak. Strong line. Head out on the turn on low bar. Double layout with a step back.

Brkljacic (TWU): Front through to double tuck. Strong opening pass. Some lack of position on the leap connection. Double pike, very OOB, mandatory 3 tenths on that.

S. Kenefick (Penn): Slight check on the turn. BHS BHS LOSO. Like its a family heirloom. Lovely. Right to the lunge. Beat, straddle 3/4 with a lean forward. Back 1.5 is stuck. Strong finish.

Woodring (TWU): Double pike. Overdone, but managed nicely considering the amount of power. Switch side, popa. Right to the straddle position. Front full, front lay. Excellent extension. Double tuck. Huge. Chest all the way up. Left no doubt.

Marr (Penn): BHS LOSO. Yes. Easy money. Switch leap, straddle 1/4. A touch hesitant. Cat leap, pause. Wait. Cat leap, side aerial. Okay. Back in the game. BHS gainer full. Deep but stuck.

Hernandez (TWU): Front through to double pike. Chest low, jump lunge to manage. Playing it up for the crowd. Switch side half, straddle jump. Emphasized that she made the leap around. I can appreciate it. Back 1.5, front layout. Kind of flat, but fine.

Kerico (Penn): Wolf full turn. Nicely done. Split jump, straddle half. Great extension. BHS LOSO. Rock solid. Front tuck. A small check. Back 1.5, just a pace forward.

Isbell (TWU ex): Double tuck. Nice and high. Great amplitude. Switch half, wolf 1.5. Not around in my opinion. Back 1.5, front lay. Some loss of leg form in the air.

Perkins (Penn): BHS LOSO. A hair flick. Split, split ring. Solid. Good head release to get the credit. Front aerial. Strong arm positioning. BHS back 1.5 with a hop forward.

Final: Oklahoma 198.300, Clemson 196.350, Texas Woman’s 196.275, Pennsylvania 194.925

Wowowow. Audrey Davis finally got her 10.0 on bars. We basically can all go home now. The season can end today with pure joy. Clemson squeaked out a win over host TWU in the final rotation. Texas Woman’s was bringing the heat all day, earning its first 196 of the season. That bodes well heading into post season shortly. Penn looked a touch shaky today, but fought for every tenth it could.
