Potential Lineups: Updates

Due to the nature of our Potential Lineups series, things happen after we publish each conference’s analysis. Gymnasts retire, freshmen don’t show up on rosters, and unfortunate injuries occur. In an effort to stay as up to date as possible, we wanted to post one more article in the series to tie up loose ends before we finally get to the season.

ACC

Clemson

  • Sophomores Trinity Brown and Molly Arnold are training realistic Yurchenko one and a halves, which is an upgrade over their vaults from their time at Utah State.
  • Freshman Delaney Fisher announced her medical retirement. She was a likely contributor on bars.
  • Class of 2024 signee Trinity Webb announced that she’ll be joining the team this January. Webb has scored as high as a 9.900 on bars and could likely fill in the gap left by Fisher.

North Carolina

  • The Tar Heels are looking to add more 10.0 vaults to the lineup as Julia Knower and Gwen Fink are training realistic Yurchenko one and a halves.

Big 12

Denver

  • Sophomore Cecilia Cooley will miss the season with a knee injury. Cooley was actively training three events prior to her injury.
  • Sophomore Ava Mabanta was seen in an arm sling. Mabanta was listed as a potential contributor for beam and floor.
  • Abbie Thompson was seen in a boot on her right foot in November. The severity of her injury is unknown, but she had potential to compete on all four events for Denver.

Iowa State

  • Danielle Press was removed from the roster. The redshirt sophomore transfer from Nebraska was expected to contribute on vault and floor.
  • Sophomore Morgan Engels was removed from the roster.

Oklahoma

  • Audrey Lynn was removed from the roster. The rising senior had potential to compete on vault for the Sooners.
  • At Oklahoma’s December intrasquad, Danielle Sievers was seen in a boot and did not compete. Katherine Levasseur, however, competed in the all-around, as did Jordan Bowers, Audrey Davis, Faith Torrez, and Ragan Smith, who debuted her upgraded Yurchenko one and a half.

West Virginia

  • Freshman Jurnee Lane appears to have recovered from offseason elbow surgery as she has been spotted training in recent footage.
  • Sophomore Emma Wehry is now training three events, adding bars after competing vault and beam last season.

Big Ten

Illinois

  • The Illini vault lineup looks like it will have five 10.0 starts, all currently being done to hard landings: Yurchenko one and a halves from Abby Mueller, Makayla Green, Mia Townes, and Mareli Muller, and a front handspring pike half from Kaitlyn Ewald.
  • Makayla Green and Amelia Knight have upgraded bar routines, both featuring double layout dismounts.
  • Ewald may break into the beam lineup this year after some exhibition routines in previous seasons.

Iowa

  • Allison Zulkhe had shoulder surgery and will likely miss the season; she was a regular vault, bars, and beam contributor last season.

Maryland

  • Maia Lee and Elizabeth DeBarberie were removed from the roster.

Michigan

  • Lily Clapper is out for the season, and Kaylen Morgan, who had shoulder surgery in the offseason, will likely be out of lineups until midseason.
  • Jacey Vore looks like a strong contender for the floor lineup this year. Carly Bauman also showed the event at Michigan’s November intrasquad.
  • Farah Lipetz is healthy and seems especially likely to appear on bars and beam.

Michigan State

  • Sage Kellerman upgraded her bar dismount to a double layout.

Minnesota

  • Freshman Jenna Olshefski has been in a boot, which could be tough for the Gophers’ vault and beam lineups especially.

Nebraska

  • Sophomore Emalee Frost is training a Yurchenko full-on entry. It’s just onto mats for now, but it looks clean and strong.

Ohio State

  • Mallory Gregory has been injured this preseason, but per coach Meredith Paulicivic, is back training as of December and should be ready for lineups by February.

Penn State

  • We’re seeing a few 10.0 vault upgrades from the Nittany Lions in preseason training videos: Elina Vihrova is working a front handspring pike half and Maddie Johnston is training a tucked Yurchenko one and a half.

Rutgers

  • Gianna Ortiz (bars, beam) has retired.

EAGL

George Washington

  • Junior Sarah Zois has been working on a Yurchenko one and a half. A 10.0 start value vault could really provide a boost for the Colonials on vault.

LIU

  • The Sharks announced that Argentinian elite and four-star recruit Brisa Carraro will be joining the team in January. Carraro excels on bars and beam and could be a stellar addition to the Sharks’ lineups.

Towson

  • Junior Elise Tisler is training a Yurchenko one and a half. It needs some cleaning up, but a 10.0 start value vault would be huge for the Tigers.

GEC

Bridgeport

  • Hannah Barry, previously thought to have graduated in 2023, was spotted training and will apparently return for a COVID year. A beam specialist, Barry was one of Bridgeport’s best and most consistent on that event in 2023, and her return will be very appreciated.

SCSU

  • It’s no surprise that we didn’t know all the SCSU freshmen at the time of writing. Anabella Mills, Sophia Ruecker, Emma Shah, and Angelina Stanfa were added to the roster as freshmen, in addition to the five we introduced in September.
  • Sarah Shaffer, a sophomore, was removed from the roster. She never competed in college.
  • Charlie Lister, now a graduate student, returns for a fifth year.

Independents

Fisk

  • Kiana Session, who missed all of the 2023 season, was seen in the latest intrasquad on beam. She previously competed on all four events during her time at Bridgeport.

MIC

SEMO

  • Freshman Savannah Poulos is currently out with what appears to be a long-term knee injury.
  • Kailyn Hamilton has been looking strong in the latest intrasquads on multiple events. Look for her to make a splash in her sophomore campaign.

MPSF

Alaska

  • Senior Talia Folino tore her ACL and meniscus and will miss the season. The LIU transfer had potential to be an all-arounder for the Seawolves.
  • Jessica Johnson is bringing a new connection to her bar routine, a Geinger to overshoot.

Sacramento State

  • Senior Simone Dumas-Guzman competed vault, beam, and floor at the Hornets’ annual Flip Fest intrasquad. She only competed floor last season and had a handful of beam appearances in 2022.
  • Of the freshmen, we only saw Flip Fest routines from three: Athena Jones (beam and floor), Jillianne Lastra (bars and floor), and Hannah Sitzman (bars and beam). Notably missing were former rated recruits Mallory Barron and Chloe Cohen and fifth-year Bella Lahmidi.

Southern Utah

  • Kennedi McClain has emerged as an option on balance beam after only competing one vault for the Thunderbirds last season.

UC Davis

  • Senior Kaitlyn Lyle appears to have retired and transitioned to a student manager role. Lyle was the second highest returning NQS on balance beam last season.

Mountain West

Air Force

  • A second 10.0 start value vault has emerged for the Falcons as Maggie Slife looks to compete a Yurchenko one and a half alongside Clara Wallace. Slife also looks to be a lock for the all-around as she competed in all four events at the Blue and Silver intrasquad in December.

NCGA-East

Rhode Island

  • Kelsey Gates and Ali Silva are returning as fifth-years for the 2024 season.

Pac-12

Arizona

  • Elizabeth Larusso had Tommy John surgery in mid-November, making her unavailable this season.

California

  • Jayden Silvers and Jordan Kane have both been vaulting in preseason training clips. Silvers hit a Yurchenko one and a half while Kane performed a handspring front pike half.

UCLA

  • In preseason videos, Brooklyn Moors has been working bars.
  • Clara Wren has been vaulting a 10.0 start value handspring front pike half in preseason intrasquads.

Utah

  • Amelie Morgan, who has not competed vault in her Ute career, has been vaulting a 10.0 start value Yurchenko one and a half in preseason videos.

Washington

  • Skylar Killough-Wilhelm has been training an upgraded vault—a Yurchenko one and a half.

SEC

Alabama

  • Junior Corinne Bunagan, who sat out her first two seasons due to injury, competed on three events at the team’s December Crimson and White intrasquad, as did sophomore Rachel Rybicki.
  • Seniors Isabella Martin and Ella Burgess made their debuts on beam and floor respectively.
  • Junior Jordyn Paradise has added floor.
  • Freshmen Jamison Sears, Chloe Lacoursiere, and Gabby Ladanyi plus sophomore transfer Natalia Pawlak competed on at least one event at Crimson and White; senior Shania Adams and sophomore Gabby Gladieux were the only team members to compete on all four events.

Arkansas

  • Though known primarily for her beam work, fifth-year transfer Sirena Linton is currently training all four events.

Auburn

  • Transfer Madelynn Crow is out long term after elbow surgery
  • Sophomore Olivia Greaves is out for an unspecified length of time after foot surgery in early December.

Florida

  • Star freshman Danie Ferris is out short term with a thumb injury.
  • Junior Riley McCusker will likely miss the entire 2024 season due to a lower leg injury.
  • Freshmen Kaylee Bluffstone and Skylar Draser have competed all four events at the team’s recent intrasquads.
  • After a string of injuries and surgeries, fan favorite Morgan Hurd has looked strong in clips of bars, beam, and floor.
  • Ellie Lazzari is back on vault and floor after competing only beam in 2023.

Georgia

  • Freshman Heather Parker and sophomore Naya Howard were both sidelined and sporting crutches at the GymDogs’ First Look intrasquad. Freshmen Ady Wahl and Lily Smith were limited to bars and beam only but will presumably factor into all four lineups during the season if healthy.
  • Haley De Jong and Katie Finnegan both upgraded their Yurchenko fulls to an Omelianchik and Yurchenko one and a half, respectively.
  • Jafree Scott has added a van Leeuwen on bars.
  • Sophomore Sidney Fitzgerald has added bars after competing only beam and floor last year while fifth-year Vanessa Deniz has added floor.
  • Transfer Ashlyn LaClair debuted a new front full throughout to front double full on floor.

Kentucky

  • Sophomore Bridget Bourque has resumed training vault after tearing her Achilles in April.

LSU

  • Freshman Brooke Simpson unexpectedly announced her retirement in November.
  • Star freshman Konnor McClain confirmed she is training all four events.
  • Senior Elena Arenas and sophomore Ashley Cowan teased upgraded Yurchenko one and a half vaults.
  • Sophomore Annie Beard is training beam after sitting out the 2023 season due to injury.
  • Kiya Johnson is back in action (on bars and beam, at least) after tearing her Achilles last season. Sixth-year Cammy Hall is also set to debut her Yurchenko one and a half for the Tigers after tearing her Achilles in the 2023 preseason.

Missouri

  • Sophomore Addison Lawrence is out indefinitely with a hip injury.
  • Sophomore Jalene Jachna and Amaya Marshall are back after sitting out the 2023 season due to injury.
  • Junior Amari Celestine competed beam at the team’s Black and Gold intrasquad. Classmate Alonna Kratzer debuted upgrades on bars (a piked Tkatchev) and floor (a whip through to double back). Jocelyn Moore did not compete due to a minor shoulder injury but is expected to be cleared by the start of the season.
