There’s a lot that happens on the gymternet each week. So much so that it can be hard to keep track of it all. From training updates and COVID year announcements to recruiting rumors and coaching news, we don’t blame you for missing some important points here and there.

That’s where we come in. Last Week in College Gym is your one-stop shop for all the important headlines from the previous week in college gymnastics. No matter if you’re taking a social media break, went on vacation, or just don’t have the capacity to follow every single gymnast, team, and fan, we have you covered.

Top Storylines

Clemson Gymnastics Unveils Training Gym

The Tigers kicked off their inaugural preseason in style with the opening of a brand new, state-of-the-art training gym, a key feature of the Women’s Athletic Facility project. The facility, overlooking Lake Hartwell, is scheduled to open in its entirety in January 2024 and will serve as the base of operations for the women’s gymnastics, lacrosse, and rowing teams.

  • Jenna Mulligan was awarded a scholarship.
  • Georgia head coach and NCAA all-time great Courtney Kupets Carter was inducted into the UGA Circle of Honor. 
  • SEC gymnasts are making headlines on and off the podium: Florida junior Riley McCusker was named one of Glamour’s College Women of the Year while LSU senior Olivia Dunne ranked No. 48 on Forbes’ list of Top Creators of 2023. 

Training Updates

  • North Carolina senior Kate Greene is training a back one and a half to a front full on floor. Her teammate Kaya Forbes is training a standing front tuck on beam. 
  • New Hampshire senior Jenna DeVincenzo is training a free hip to Tkatchev combination on bars. Her teammate Serena Mullin is training a bar upgrade of her own and is working on a double Arabian dismount. 
  • LSU’s Elena Arenas has scored a perfect 9.950 for her Yurchenko full but is teasing an upgrade to a one and a half for her senior season.

  1. Clemson’s gymnastics facility will be for gymnastics only. It’s part of 4 building complex that has 3 individual gyms/ops buildings and then a shared support building.
