The Mountain West conference announced today that it will begin sponsoring gymnastics starting with the 2024 season. Air Force, Boise State, San Jose State, and Utah State will compete in the conference, moving from the MPSF and MRGC.
BYU, previously a member of the independent MRGC, moves to the Big 12 beginning with the 2024 season. That leaves Southern Utah, the final MRGC member, left to find a home. The Thunderbirds’ primary conference, Big Sky, does not sponsor gymnastics. UC Davis, Sacramento State, and Alaska remain in the MPSF.
“Competing for a championship at the Mountain West is a prestigious opportunity for our student-athletes. This opportunity will help enhance our student-athlete experience! We are thrilled to be joining our other Utah State sports as an official member of the Conference,” said Utah State head coach Kristin White in a press release.
Conference realignment continues to shuffle collegiate sports, with few plans fully solidified as revenue sports and media deals drive the changes.
Mountain West will form plans for regular and post-season competition “soon” according to the announcement.
This is a developing story. We will update this post as more information becomes available.
