The Dismount: Week 9

The penultimate weekend of the regular season sure was something, huh? With highs and lows, you likely missed something. Catch up on everything that went down with superlatives, results, recaps and more in this week’s Dismount.

Superlatives

Best Shade

The Washington SID was absolutely over the no video, delayed start, and broken scores at the Purple & Gold Classic. The shade is immaculate.

Most Selfless Act

Nearly everything about Utah senior night and the aspects surrounding honoring football player Aaron Lowe were emotional, but the fact that Jaedyn Rucker used money she earned from NIL to fly Lowe’s mother out for the meet hit us directly in the feels.

Most Sentimental Senior Night Routine

Speaking of Utah senior night, Cristal Isa’s perfect 10 on beam was set to “I’ll Always Remember You,” a moment that made all of us cry along with Isa after the score was posted.

Most Self-Aware

Two out of three teams competing in East Lansing on Sunday got program records. We thought it was a great meet, and the judges apparently agreed… strongly… to the extent that the gymnasts noticed. Hey, don’t look a gift horse in the mouth, right?

Best Surprise

To celebrate floor anchor Reese McClure at her senior meet, Maryland’s team arranged a surprise for her: As she began her ’70s-themed floor routine, the whole team put on round glasses with tinted lenses and even brought out a disco ball to capitalize on the energy of her routine.

Best Backflip

Gabrielle Stephen’s dad celebrated the Spartans’ 198 with a backflip…while wearing his green and white overalls, of course.
