LIVE BLOG: No. 27 North Carolina, No. 38 George Washington, and No. 50 LIU at No. 54 New Hampshire

Today, we have a fun little EAGL quad that could be closer than most might realize.

North Carolina has steadily been on the rise since Danna Durante’s arrival. Lali Dekanoidze and Hallie Thompson returning to lineups after previous season-ending injuries has helped propel the Tar Heels to the top half of the conference, so they will want to keep pace and aim to return to regionals for the second year in a row.

George Washington scored a season-low last time out at the Denver quad but has maintained excellence on the vault this season. Kendall Whitman has been incredibly consistent on her two events and looks to continue that streak today.

LIU scored its first 195 of the season last time out and had a bye week, so the Sharks will be rested and ready to go today. Mara Titarsolej and Ilka Juk have been heavily relied on during the first part of season and coach Randy Lane will want to see their consistency rise to propel his team.

New Hampshire is coming into this home meet lacking some consistency. After topping out at 195.275 a few weeks ago, the Wildcats have scored in the 192’s two meets in a row. The key event for the home team will be the balance beam; the Wildcats have scored in the 46’s on beam two weeks in a row.

Rotation 1: LIU vault, GWU bars, UNC beam, UNH floor

Morris (LIU) – Yurchenko full, stuck with a low chest. 9.775.

Silverman (GWU) – short on the first handstand, bent arms on the piked Jaeger, blind full to double tuck with a step back. 9.675.

Nam (UNC) – jump series was a little shaky, cat leap to side aerial, little wobble at the end. RO 1.5 to end. 9.725.

Himes (UNH) – front layout to front 1.5 first pass is clean. Double tuck final pass, hop backwards. 9.800.

Savino (LIU) – tucked Yurchenko full, off to the side, landed on directional lines. 9.650.

Loo (LIU) – tucked Yurchenko full, very nice in the air with a hop back. 9.725.

Chambliss (GWU) – after a small wait, we’re finally going on bars. Vertical on her first handstand, but not the second. Blind full to double tuck, STUCK! 9.800.

Fink (UNC) – Switch leap to switch leap, would’ve liked a little more split. BHS LOSO is clean, front aerial with a small balance check. Dismount at the end is nicely done! 9.850

Mowers (UNH) – stumbled out of bounds on her first pass, much cleaner second pass. Double tuck was the best landing of the three. 9.550.

Bedminster (LIU) – Yurchenko full, slight hop on the landing, but very clean in the air! 9.750.

Garfoot (GWU) – Geinger with leg separation to overshoot, full twisting double tuck with a hop back. 9.675

Thompson (UNC) – balance check after the triple series, but clean otherwise. 1.5 dismount is stuck! 9.775.

Bauman (UNH) – 2.5 twist is nicely done! Back 1.5 to front layout, legs buckled but she managed to save it. 9.725.

Koopman (LIU) – Yurchenko full piked down with a hop back. 9.700.

Munnelly (GWU) – mount on the low bar, Maloney with leg separation, bail to handstand, her toes haven’t been pointed throughout, but gets the dismount with a step back. 9.475

Culton (UNC) – Switch side was BEAUTIFUL! Front aerial to split leap series was right at 180. Gainer full dismount is stuck. WOW! 9.950.

Kelley (UNH) – double pike, landed right on that line, so we’ll see if the judges mark her out of bounds. Put her hands down on the second pass, so that will be a fall. 9.075.

McMullen (GWU) – short on the first handstand, Pak salto was caught incredibly close. short on the final handstand, might’ve put her hands down on the mat but definitely landed with a low chest. 9.350.

Knower (UNC) – BHS LOSO series is clean. Front toss is high in the air and nicely landed. Balance check on the jump series, RO 1.5 with a small step back. 9.825.

Brown (UNH) – Back 1.5 to front full with a small step forward. I love this music omg. Beautiful final pass. Great routine to follow a fall. 9.850.

Schulze (UNC) – Jump series was beautiful, BHS LOSO is clean. Underrotated on the dismount so she took a step back, but it was clean. 9.775.

Beaulieu (UNH) – ahhh, Sarah Finnegan floor music from 2019. Double tuck is STUCK STUCK. Woah. Front layout to front full just barely stayed in bounds. Leap series could’ve used a touch more toe point. Front 1.5 is landed cleanly. That should drop the fall from Kelley. 9.800.

After 1: UNC 49.175, UNH 48.725, LIU 48.600, GWU 48.300

Not the best rotation for GWU on bars. It will have to have a better approach to the next three events to get back into it. Elizabeth Culton’s 9.950 for the Tar Heels was a highlight of this rotation. New Hampshire dropped a fall and find themselves in second place going into rotation 2. LIU is heading into two strong events for the Sharks, so it will want to capitalize.

Rotation 2: UNH vault, LIU bars, GWU beam, UNC floor

Biette (UNH) – Yurchenko full with a small step to the side, piked down and chest down. 9.700

Bedminster (LIU) – mount on low bar, Maloney is nicely done, legs glued together. Bail to handstand with slight leg separation, double layout STUCK. 9.800.

Silverman (GWU) – Flight series is clean, split leap to split jump is nice. Side aerial with a slight wobble. 9.650.

Nam (UNC) – Double pike with a controlled lunge, slight leg form in the air. Clean combination pass at the end. 9.750.

Mullin (UNH) – Yurchenko full, piked down with a hop back. 9.725.

Juk (LIU) – Pirouette on the low bar was a little questionable, short of handstand, gets the blind full to double tuck with a step. 9.700.

Zois (GWU) – BHS BHS LOSO is nicely done. Beautiful on the leap series. Double twist dismount with a hop back. 9.850.

Greene (UNC) – Back 1.5 to front layout pass is clean. Landed short on the final pass, but didn’t put her hands down.  9.600.

Miller (LIU) – fell on the Maloney, gets back up and finishes the routine. 9.050.

Whitman (GWU) – Switch leap to switch leap to beat jump series is clean. Gainer full off the end of the beam. Nicely done for Whitman! 9.850.

Kelley (UNH) – Yurchenko full, nice in the air, might’ve hopped in place. 9.750.

Greenlow (UNC) – Combination pass is very nicely done! Punch on the second pass was missed, but she got it around. 9.700.

Sanchez (LIU) – Mount on the high bar, staddled Jaeger is caught beautifully, double layout with a step forward. Good routine after a fall. 9.725.

Mowers (UNH) – Yurchenko half, nice landing! 9.825.

Chambliss (GWU) – balance check after the flight series. Solid landing on the dismount.  9.825.

Beaulieu (UNH) – low chest and step forward on the landing. 9.650.

Savino (LIU) – Straddled Jaeger caught close to the bar. Bail right to handstand, but had to take quite a few extra swings after missing a pirouette. The Sharks will have to count a low score. 9.500.

Katz (GWU) – Fall on the side aerial. Foot slipped on the landing. Second fall on the flight series. She’s fighting through this routine for sure. Almost sat the dismount as well. 8.550.

Gorgenyi (UNH) – Yurchenko full, LOTS of power with a big hop back. 9.725.

Forbes (UNC) – Full in with a step forward first pass, second pass is stuck! Out of bounds on the double tuck. 9.675.

Titarsolej (LIU) – Beautiful Maloney to Pak salto, handstands are spot on! Blind full to double tuck, STUCK! 9.950.

Sherameta (GWU) – WOW that mount! Front aerial to BHS series, but there was a pause so I’m not sure if she’ll get credit for it. Big balance break on the next skill. Sissone to switch half got her back on track. Round off 1.5 dismount with a step forward. 9.475.

Knower (UNC) – Double pike first pass, slightly uncontrolled step back. Front full to front layout was controlled on both skills. Leap series lacked a little toe point, but at 180. Double tuck final pass is clean. 9.925.

Wozniak (UNC) – 1.5 to punch front, missed the punch between the elements, but the choreography is nice and clean. Double pike final pass was super controlled. 9.650.

After 2: UNC 97.875, UNH 97.450, LIU 97.275, GWU 97.000

Not quite the floor rotation we expected from the Tar Heels. Knower’s routine was the only routine to score over a 9.800, so going into vault, they will have to have clean landings if they want to keep their lead. UNH maintains their second place ranking and it is heading to bars, where Gorgenyi impressed last weekend. LIU needs a good beam rotation and GWU will want to finish out on a good note in the second half.

Rotation 3: UNC vault, UNH bars, LIU beam, GWU floor

Greene (UNC) – Yurchenko full, high off the table, needed more distance.

Simpkins (UNH) – short on the first handstand, bail to handstand is short. Full out dismount with a step and low chest. 9.750.

Morris (LIU) – BHS LOSO with the tiniest balance check. Low chest on the dismount. 9.700.

Lynch (GWU) – Back 1.5 to front layout combination pass is clean. Wolf 1.5 jump is beautiful! Double tuck landed with a low chest. 9.825.

Fink (UNC) – Yurchenko full, good height and distance.

Silverman (GWU) – landed low on the double pike, and took a step out of bounds. 9.575.

Moreno (UNH) – beautiful handstands, leg separation on the release moves. Double tuck with a step forward. 9.725.

Ricketts (LIU) – BHS LOSO with a foot up right at the end of it. Switch leap plus switch leap combo just shy of 180. 9.775.

Prejean (UNC) – Yurchenko full, good body position, hop on the landing.

Brown (UNH) – beautiful first handstand, bail to handstand right on top of the bar. Khorkina release, then right to blind full to double tuck is STUCK. 9.825.

Knower (UNC) – Yurchenko full with the tiniest foot adjustment at the end!

Folino (LIU) – front aerial to split jump is at 180. BHS LOSO series is clean. The leaps have been absolutely over 180 and right on the money. Takes a hop forward on the dismount. 9.775.

Forbes (UNC) – Yurchenko 1.5, put her hands down on the landing.

Whitman (GWU) – BEAUTIFUL first pass. Front double full to front layout second pass. Wow, I love this difficulty. 9.900.

Beaulieu (UNH) – Straddled Jaeger, lacked toe point. Bail to handstand. Blind full to double tuck dismount. 9.900.

Dekanoidze (UNC) – Yurchenko full, hop in place.

Foster (LIU) – BHS LOSO is right in the middle of the beam. Split leap to straddle quarter, slightly under 180. Cat leap to side aerial, bend at the waist but stayed on the beam. RO 1.5 with a wobble. 9.600.

Whitehead (UNH) – Geinger caught close to the bar, full twisting double tuck with a stuck landing! 9.850

Chambliss (GWU) – controlled first pass, back 1.5 to front layout control on both elements. Leap series was beautiful! Double tuck final pass is nicely done. 9.875.

Bixler (LIU) – BHS LOSO beautifully done. Leap series is right on the middle of the beam. 1.5 dismount with a hop forward. 9.800.

Gorgenyi (UNH) – Beautiful release moves connected all throughout that routine. Hop back on the dismount. Won’t score as high as last week’s but still a beautiful routine. 9.825.

Sheremeta (GWU) – First pass was absolutely beautiful. Her choreography throughout this routine was impressive. A good routine for the freshman! 9.825.

Juk (LIU) – round off BHS mount on the beam was beautiful. BHS BHS LOSO series immediately after was right on. Wobbled on her full turn but managed to dance out of it. Full twisting BHS. This routine has literally everything. Cartwheel gainer full dismount, but WOW what a routine! 9.825.

York (GWU) – Triple full, but she was shy of the third twist. Might’ve been more like a 2.5 twist. 1.5 to front full, had to FIGHT for that front full because those knees buckled. RO 1.5 to front layout final pass. Beautiful routine, but we’ll have to see what the judges do with the triple twist that wasn’t. 9.750.

After 3: UNC 146.975, UNH 146.600, GWU 146.175, LIU 146.150

A big floor rotation from GWU puts them ahead of LIU going into the final rotation. UNC has maintained its lead throughout, so we will see what it can do with the final rotation ahead. UNH is going into an event that has been difficult for it the last few meets, so the final placements are still up for grabs!

Rotation 4: GWU vault, UNC bars, UNH beam, LIU floor

Just a heads up, my laptop charger decided to stop working so I had to flip computers and am now watching on my phone. So if I’m wrong about something, I’m very sorry.

Zois (GWU) – Yurchenko full with a hop back. 9.800.

Shearer (UNC) – mount on the high bar, straddled Jaeger is clean, overshoot, missed the handstand. Double layout with a step forward.

Bauman (UNH) – Cat leap to front toss, wobbled on the front toss. Good landing at the end. 9.775.

Morris (LIU) – Front layout to front 1.5, step back. Beautiful double tuck final pass. 9.825.

Knower (UNC) – Geinger with slight leg separation, half in half out stuck!

Katz (GWU) – Yurchenko half, good landing at the end! 9.800.

Mullin (UNH) – had to fight for her series but stayed on. Front toss was beautiful as was her dismount. 9.825.

Bedminster (LIU) – low landing on the double tuck. Good choreography throughout. 9.675.

York (GWU) – Yurchenko full with a big hop back. 9.725.

Fink (UNC) – Blind change to straddled Jaeger, missed the hand on the transition to low bar, but kept going. 9.525.

Chambliss (GWU) – Yurchenko full, hop back on the landing. Good height and distance off the table. 9.925.

Whitman (GWU) – FHS front pike half, hop to the side. 9.850.

Loo (LIU) – OOB on her first pass, leap series was a little shy of 180. Double pike final pass with a low landing. 9.525.

Simpkins (UNH) – balance adjustment on flight series. BHS Gainer full dismount. 9.825

Culton (UNC) – Bail to handstand was beautiful, Stalder handstand to double tuck.

Dekanoidze (UNC) – Maloney to bail to handstand, beautiful position on the handstands. Double layout dismount, stuck! 9.975.

Munnelly (GWU) – Tucked Yurchenko full. Clean in the air. 9.825

Beaulieu (UNH) – Front toss to BHS was clean. Leap series was right on. RO 1.5 twist with a college stick. 9.825.

Koopman (LIU) – Landed low on the triple twist, had to save it on the punch front. 9.800.

Schaefer (UNC) – beautiful handstand positions throughout, half in half out stuck! 9.925.

Worthington (UNH) – Flight series is clean. Cat leap to switch half to beat jump is nicely done. Gainer pike off the end of the beam with a hop forward. Finally, the Wildcats hit beam after a rocky two weeks! 9.900.

Miller (LIU) – Double pike first pass is clean with a small hop back. Second pass had more control than the first. Leap series was right at 180 with beautiful height. Double tuck final pass, landed a little leg-locked, but she stayed on her feet. 9.800.

Kelley (UNH) – Slight wobble on the full turn. BHS LOSO LOSO triple series, wow! Switch leap to beat jump is nicely done. Front toss is landed with chest up. BHS gainer full with a stick! WOW what a rotation for New Hampshire! 9.925.

Barrington (LIU) – Final routine of the day! Triple turn, um WOW. Round off double tuck, so much power and height. Round off 2.5 twist is very controlled. Leap series is controlled. This is probably my favorite floor routine she’s done. Back 1.5 to front layout. Great anchor routine! 9.850.

FINAL: UNC 196.275, UNH 195.900, GWU 195.375, LIU 195.100

A program record for the Sharks despite the fourth place finish! The Wildcats will be thrilled with that beam rotation and look to have put those troubles behind them for now. UNC finished strong on the bars with two scores 9.900 plus, while George Washington shrugged off a slow start to take third. All in all, this was a successful EAGL quad and a good practice meet for the EAGL championships next month!

VT: Deja Chambliss (GWU) – 9.925
UB: Lali Dekanoidze (UNC) – 9.975
BB: Elizabeth Culton (UNC) – 9.950
FX: Julia Knower (UNC) – 9.925
