It’s week two, and DIII gymnastics is already breaking records this season. Oshkosh demolished its floor program record, raising the bar to 48.675. The NCGA East bursted back onto the scene with Springfield defeated Division II Bridgeport and Brockport narrowly surpassing Ithaca by just two tenths. If this week has anything to say about it, 2023 is going to bring the excitement to a whole new level.
Superlatives
Hype Squad of the Week
Looking to get your butt in gear, tackle that daunting project, kick your procrastination to the curb? OK, maybe we can’t help. But watch the Ursinus bar rotation and the enthusiasm will have you running stairs like Rocky.
Series of the Week
Few have the capability of performing a hands-free series, but Caelen Lansing performed this layout step out layout step out with ease. The amount of power she gets on beam is simply amazing.
Tik Tok of the week
Oshkosh brought some humor to its trip to Rutgers. But seriously, if you know you know.
NCGA-East Meet of the Week
Brockport at Ithaca
Why Should You (Re)Watch? This meet came down to the wire. Brockport and Ithaca go way back, but fortune favors Brockport with an overall 33-9 record. Actually, Ithaca has recent a track record of defeating Brockport in Februarys: 2020, 2019, 2018 (twice!). Not last year, though, but this year might be the year again. That makes it a must-watch in preparation for the meeting on February 19th. Just two tenths apart, the Bombers could blow the Golden Eagles out of the water next month.
Are These Teams Trending Up or Down? Brockport isn’t performing as big as the team would hope, although last season didn’t start off with a bang either. Ithaca is looking strong early this year, and is most certainly going to be trending up, so long as the Bombers keep the momentum rolling.
WIAC Meet of the Week
UW-La Crosse and UW-Stout at Winona State
Why Should You (Re)Watch? Conference foes faced off in an exciting tri meet. Iowa transfer Caelen Lansing made her La Crosse debut with a beam win and powerful tumbling. Stout’s Kiara Brown picked up where she left off in the all around. Kennedy O’Connor continued to bring the heat on vault with her 10.0 start value.
Are These Teams Trending Up or Down?: La Crosse is trending up with athletes throwing big skills and plenty of depth to go around. Stout is a bit too soon to tell. Winona State is trending slightly down due to the current youth of the team. Expect consistency to improve some as the season goes on.
