Texas Woman's gymnasts celebrate after their teammate's routine on beam

2023 Predictions: Which Teams Will Win the USAG and NCGA Titles in 2023?

We’re narrowing in on the 2023 season, and it wouldn’t be a new year without some predictions! We’ll be answering one pressing question over the course of eight days as we gear up for the first meet on January 6. Check out the previous days’ questions and predictions here.

While not as much in the spotlight, the USAG and NCGA national championships are just as exciting as NCAA weekend during the postseason.

Which Team Will Win the USAG Title in 2023?

Winner: Texas Woman’s (4 votes)

Runner-up: Lindenwood (3 votes)

Illustrated headshot of Elizabeth GrimsleyElizabeth: I’ve sort of learned recently not to pick against Texas Woman’s—similar to Oklahoma—so I’m going with the Pioneers in 2023, especially with that meet at home for the Pioneers.

Illustrated headshot of Peri GoodmanPeri: With the team’s depth of 9.8-plus routines each March, my choice is Texas Woman’s.

Illustrated headshot of Alyssa Van AukerAlyssa: I was able to watch the USAG national championship in person last year, and Texas Woman’s really stood out to me as a team that could continue to win, which I feel like it will in 2023.

Illustrated headshot of Emily MinehartEmily M: You can’t count out Texas Woman’s when it comes to the USAG postseason. The Pioneers know how to win.

Rebecca Scally Illustrated HeadshotRebecca: I’m feeling Lindenwood this year. The Lions have a huge injury returner in Savannah Newsome, superstar Gayla Griswold is ready to shine as a senior, and the freshman class, featuring four-star recruit Nya Kraus, has the potential to be majorly impactful.

Savanna Whitten illustrated headshotSavanna: I feel like causing chaos, so I’m echoing Rebecca and saying Lindenwood. Griswold making nationals last year brought a lot of attention to the Lions, and I think they’re going to take advantage of that and add fuel to the fire to take home the USAG Title.

Illustrated headshot of Allison FreemanAllison: You know, I’m going to go Lindenwood here. I think Air Force will put a lot more pressure on Texas Woman’s and Lindenwood, and can beat both on the day. Lindenwood can take home the title, but it can’t leave the door open. So, Lindenwood with Air Force lurking in the shadows, ready to take the title away is my prediction.

Which Team Will Win the NCGA Title in 2023?

Winner: Brockport (5 votes)

Runners-up: UW-Oshkosh (2 votes)

Illustrated headshot of Elizabeth GrimsleyElizabeth: This is so tough because there’s a lot of parity in the NCGA, but I think I have to go with Brockport.

Illustrated headshot of Peri GoodmanPeri: Brockport, since they look to have the deepest pool of returners with competitive scores in the NCGA.

Illustrated headshot of Alyssa Van AukerAlyssa: It is hard to go against a UW-Oshkosh that will be getting Rahdea Jarvis back for a fifth year, but I think I am going to have to go with my hometown team Brockport reclaiming the title.

Illustrated headshot of Emily MinehartEmily M: I have to agree that Brockport looks hard to top.

Rebecca Scally Illustrated HeadshotRebecca: I like the look of defending champion UW-Oshkosh at this point.

Savanna Whitten illustrated headshotSavanna: Brockport looks very well on its way to reclaiming the title.

Illustrated headshot of Allison FreemanAllison: I think it’ll go to UW-Oshkosh, but a few missteps and Brockport will be there, ready to go and take the title, especially if Golden Eagles pace themselves as well as the team did last year.
