Utica University, a Division III school in Utica, New York, announced on Thursday its intention to sponsor women’s gymnastics starting with the 2023-24 school year. The university will also add both women’s and men’s wrestling programs at the same time.
The gymnastics team will use the facilities at Valley Gymnastics in Utica, and has begun the search for its head coach. Recruiting will begin immediately once a coach is hired.
“As the Executive Director of the WCGA and the NCGA, I am proud to welcome Utica University to Division III Women’s Gymnastics. We are all excited to welcome the Pioneers, and we look forward to helping them thrive in any way we can. The gymnastics community will be very engaged with this new addition, and we look forward to further growth across the country,” said Jason Bauer in the Utica announcement.
Utica began its existence as an extension campus for nearby Syracuse University. Its colors are navy and orange, and the mascot is Trax — a moose — and teams go by the nickname, the Pioneers.
