On Thursday, UCLA announced that it would join the Big Ten conference starting with the 2024-25 academic year. The University of Southern California is also making the move from the Pac-12 conference. The transition will bring the total number of Big Ten teams to 16 while the Pac-12 will drop to ten.
There will now be 11 Big Ten schools that sponsor women’s gymnastics, while the Pac-12 drops to seven gymnastics schools with the loss of 7-time national champion UCLA. This move comes less than a year after Oklahoma and Texas announced they would join the SEC in the 2025-26 academic year, which sent shockwaves through the college athletics community. As the move toward larger conferences continues, there will likely be additional shifts that affect collegiate gymnastics teams.
This situation is fluid, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
