LIVE BLOG: GEC Championship Session Two

Session two of the GEC Champions are your top four seeds: the single-syllable names and West Chester. Mathematically, Penn should take the cake here today. Mathematically, Penn had the Ivy Classic locked up but Yale had other plans.

After the Ivy Classic, Penn has stormed its way through the season having most recently posted its top score in program history just last weekend. A high score not just for Penn, but within the Ivy League schools as well. If Penn doesn’t bring that top score, not just Yale but Brown as well could surpass Penn for that spot atop the podium. With Brown hosting this inaugural championship, expect a lot of hype and momentum from the home team. Although West Chester may not have as much power as those top three, with just a fall or two, the Golden Rams could find themselves golden landing among the top teams. Honestly? Anyone’s game today. It’s going to come down to hitting when the time counts.

Live scores for this session can be found here.

Road to Nationals may or may not be updating with both sessions scores as we go through this evening, but that can be found here.

Scores to remember from the first session: Southern Connecticut 194.200, Cornell 194.175, William & Mary 192.675, Bridgeport 189.925.

Rotation 1: Penn VT, Brown UB, WCU BB, Yale FX

Hsu (Penn): FTY, just a hop.

Betts (WCU): Great series, solid. Little shy on the split.

Meeks (Yale): Opens with a solid double pike. Front full to front lay, good. Great ring shape in leap series. Good rudi to end.

Kraez (Penn): FTY, same hop.

Cascadden (WCU): Switch leap to straddle 3/4. BHS LOSO was solid. Small bobble, but covers it well. RO 1.5, good.

Titche (Yale): Opens with a double pike, too much power and steps it out of bounds. Leap series just shy of that full extension. Front lay front full, good. Nice double pike to end.

Meakim (WCU): BHS LOSO, small balance check but smooths it over. RO 1.5 lay with a hop forward. Solid set.

Brown just had the routine of a lifetime based on the celebration.

Wilson (Yale): 1.5 to front lay, floaty. Good leaps. Ends with a double pike.

Poley (Brown): Piked ginger good, bail to hs. FTDB just a hop.

Costa (Brown): Straddle jaeger but hits her feet on the low bar. Bail to hs, good. Just shy on that last hs. Looks like the double tuck was stuck.

Chia (Yale): Rudi to stag, bouncy. Beautiful leap series, so much height and the form completes it. RO 1.5 to front lay, keeps it in.

McFarland (WCU): BHS LOSO was super solid. Cat leap to side aerial, good. Switch leap to split half looked nice. RO 1.5 looks like a hop forward.

Toy (Yale): Ended short on the double pike. Comes off the floor.

Wang (Yale): FTDB and she doesn’t move her feet. Switch side popa, good. Double tuck, also stuck. Sticky feet for Wang so far. Just a step to the side on the last pass. Incredibly clean overall.

After 1: Brown 49.225, Penn 48.900, WCU 48.800, Yale 47.825

That’ll be a new program record for Brown on bars, smashing its previous record of 49.125, a record it crept closer to all season. Penn is close behind with WCU and Yale a bit further in the standings, but nothing to worry about just yet if you’re Yale.

Rotation 2: Yale VT, Penn UB, Brown BB, WCU FX

Wilson (Yale): Tucked fty, tiniest hop.

Lazaro (Brown): BHS LOSO, good. Side aerial, little wobble. RO 1.5, stuck or close to it.

S. Kenefick (Penn): Straddle tkatchev, good. Pak, some legs. Giant full to double full, good.

Weiner (Brown): BHS LOSO, small wobble. Cat leap to side aerial, fights and saves it. Ganer full off side, looked good.

Aviad (Yale): Yurchenko lay half, good.

Titche (Yale): FTY, steps back.

Hsu (Penn): Not enough on the bail to hs, comes off. Hop on the double lay.

Cascadden (WCU): Double tuck to open, good. Front lay to front full, controlled. Solid tumbling overall.

Walker (Yale): Sits down the lay yurchenko half.

Kuhn (Penn): Pak, good. Little shy on that last hs. FTDB, looked stuck.

Marr (Penn): Great routine, just shy on the last hs and a hop on the double lay.

Kissinger (WCU): Solid first pass, love that layout step out. She floats all of her tumbling. Great leap series, hits her popa. FHS rudi stag, good.

Schulze (Brown): BHS LOSO is solid. Beat to split full, beautiful extension. Switch leap split 3/4, nice. Really solid routine. Side aerial to lay, looked and sounded stuck.

Meakim (WCU): Effortless double pike to open. FHS front full to front lay, good. This routine is so fun every single time. FHS rudi to stag, good.

After 2: Penn 98.225, West Chester 97.875, Brown 97.800, Yale 97.325

Penn swooping into first, West Chester just a few tenths behind after a huge floor rotation. Brown is staring down West Chester as the Bears head over to floor as West Chester heads to vault. Yale can very well make up some ground on bars. Of note, Brown’s 49.225 on bars is the team’s highest event score of any event, ever.

Rotation 3: WCU VT, Yale UB, Penn BB, Brown FX

Aviad (Yale): Straddle tkatchev, good. Bail to hs, giant full to double tuck, landing looked good.

Allen (WCU): Tucked fty, hops it back.

A. Bailey (WCU): Layout yurchenko, very clean.

Kraez (Penn): Cat leap to leap and comes off the side. BHS LOSO, drops her shoulder. Tucked front full, good.

Loving this classical floor routine from Brown.

Kissinger (WCU): Great twisty vault from her, just looked like a step on the landing.

Chia (Yale): Good tkatchev to bail to hs. Little shy on that last hs, muddles through the giant full to her twisting dismount, just a step.

Toy (Yale): Straddle jaeger good to her bail to hs. Giant full to double tuck, looked pretty stuck.

DeBarberie (Penn): BHS LOSO, good. Solid routine for Penn, and much needed.

Walsh (Brown): Double pike to open, clean. Great front tumbling, kept it in. A little soft on the feet in the leaps but good otherwise. Small stumble in the rudi.

Walker (Yale): Straddle jaeger, good, bail to hs. Double lay stuck!

Yang (Penn): Front aerial, wobbles. Super elegant full turn. Side aerial dismount good.

Van Zandt (Brown): Double tuck to open, just keeps it in. Closes with a big double tuck.

M. Marr (Penn): BHS LOSO, solid. Small bobble on the leap series. BHS gainer full dismount.

Bedell (Brown): Double tuck to open, nice. Super upbeat floor routine. Ends with a floaty and clean double pike.

After 3: Penn 147.425, Brown 147.000, Yale 146.500, WCU 146.275

Brown for sure had a season high on beam, possibly a record as well. New high on record for Penn as well. Yale will have tied its previous season high on bars. Brown will end on vault while Penn ends on floor. Brwon can score in the high 48s on vault, but Penn is capable of mid 49s. If Penn doesn’t hit, Brown could certainly creep in. And if Brown doesn’t hit, Yale will slide into second here.

Rotation 4: Brown VT, WCU UB, Yale BB, Penn FX

Kramer (Brown): FTY, chest down a bit.

Song (Penn): RO 1.5 to front tuck, kind of an awkward bounce. Good leaps. Closes with a double tuck.

Xing (Brown): FTY, tiny hop in place.

Kelly (WCU): Tkatchev, good. Straddle back, a little shy on that last hs. Hop on the landing.

Gardner (Brown): FTY, barely moves her feet.

Chia (Yale): Great leap series, beautiful extension. Looks like a stuck dismount.

Wicker (WCU): Great release, just the dismount. Double lay, hop in place or stuck.

Costa (Brown): FTY, tiny step.

Davies (Penn): Double pike to open, clean. Front lay front full, good. Ends with a double tuck.

Walker (Yale):BHS LOSO, small wobble. Front aerial, split jump, comes off. Nails her leap series. Dismount looked stuck.

Vanhorn (Penn): Punch double front to open. Ton of power in the double tuck, bounces it back a little. Great routine.

Hsu (Penn): Rudi to layout step out, juuuuust keeps it in. RO 1.5 to front lay, good. Clean routine.

Looks like no Toy on beam. Meeks had a solid set it seemed.

S. Kenefick (Penn): Great first pass. FHS front double full to end. Nice routine. Penn storms the floor.
