Ciena Alipio, a senior elite from West Valley Gymnastics School, announced her verbal commitment to UCLA today. She is one of College Gym News Recruit Rating’s five-star gymnasts in the class of 2022.
Alipio had a rewarding elite career as a junior. She tied for silver on the balance beam at the junior U.S. championships in 2018 and, the following year, she won the all around title at the American Classic and won silver on beam at both the GK U.S. Classic and at the junior U.S. championships (tied). At the U.S. junior world championships trials, also in 2019, she won beam with an impressive 14.400.
As a level 10, Alipio tied for silver on floor at the 2016 L10 nationals (junior A).
At UCLA she will join an impressive set of gymnasts. She follows West Valley clubmate Emily Lee, who is signed to UCLA in the class of 2021. She is the third five star recruit from the class of 2022 to commit to UCLA, following Selena Harris and Ariel Posen.
Stay tuned for a more in-depth look at where Alipio will contribute in her Recruit File, coming next week. Plus, to see a full view of UCLA’s future classes, visit our Rosters & Commits Spreadsheet.
