LIVE BLOG: No. 18 Auburn at No. 1 Florida

Welcome back to Friday night heights! Tonight we have the second matchup of the season between Auburn and Florida but this time Florida gets to host.

It’s been an impressive 2021 season for the Gators so far. Florida is coming off a 197.500 from last week, an impressive score since the Gators were without several of their biggest contributors. They will be really happy to have Trinity Thomas back especially. Last time she competed, she broke the Florida school all around record.

Auburn has been up and down all season long. The Tigers have two scores of 197 already, but the rest of their scores are 196.100 or lower. Auburn will hope to take advantage of the often loose scoring in Gainesville and record a good road total, as both of its 197s were scored at home. Derrian Gobourne continues to lead the Tigers, reaching near perfection on floor a few weeks ago.

Kentucky/LSU meet just finishing up, so we may or may not switch over in time to see the first vault.

Rotation 1

Florida: Vault, Auburn: Bars

Foberg (UF): goof y full with a hop in place – 9.8

Sumner (AU): goot tkatchev, great floaty pak, stuck DLO – 9.8

Skaggs (UF): stuck y full – 9.925

Pi. Smith (AU): good maloney to pak combo, stuck DLO – 9.875

Schoenherr (UF): stuck y 1.5 – some knees, but great vault – 9.95

Sabados (AU): huge ray, good bail hs, small hop on DLO – 9.85

Reed (UF): little short on y 1.5 and takes a big step back – 9.8

Stevens (AU): goes over on cast handstand and has to jump off, missed her foot on the toe on and almost falls again, good ray, good bail, DLO really close to the bar and steps back – 8.775

Thomas (UF): y 1.5 with too much power and takes a big step forward – 9.825

Brusch (AU): good maloney to bail combo, stuck DLO – 9.9

Richards (UF): does the y 1.5 and nearly sticks it – 9.9

Gobourne (AU): big tkatchev to pak, step on FTDT dismount – 9.9

After 1: Florida: 49.450, Auburn: 49.325

Really good start for both teams! Florida still needs to work on sticking some of those 1.5s, but that was probably the best vault rotation I’ve seen from the Gators all year. Auburn counted nothing lower than a 9.8 and bounced back well after Stevens’ fall.

Rotation 2

Florida: Bars, Auburn: Vault

Hollingsworth (AU): y full with a hop back – 9.775

Lazzari (UF): great tkatchev, good pak, hop back on FTDT dismount – 9.825

Pi. Smith (AU): y full – chest down and a hop forward – 9.775 – that’s higher than I would have gone…

Gallentine (UF): good maloney to pak, DLO with a big step back – 9.775

Sabados (AU): y full with a tiny step back

Skaggs (UF): big tkatchev to pak, tiny shuffle on DLO – 9.925

Watson (AU): nearly stuck y 1.5 – a little lock legged on the landing – 9.9

Baumann (UF): beautiful jaeger, good bail, small step on DLO – 9.9

Gobourne (AU): y 1.5 with a big step forward – 9.875

Schoenherr (UF): beautiful jaeger, great bail hs, hop on dismount – 9.85

Pa. Smith (AU): y full – not much height or distance – small hop – she was a last minute replacement for Stevens. – 9.775

Thomas (UF): beautiful maloney, great pak, beautiful van leeuwen, tiny shuffle on dismount – 10 – umm, she definitely did not stick that landing…

After 2: Florida: 98.950, Auburn: 98.475

Questionable whether Thomas’ routine was a 10, but a great bars rotation from Florida! Auburn was good on vault but doesn’t have the same difficulty or amplitude as Florida.

Rotation 3

Florida: Beam, Auburn: Floor

Richards (UF): great triple series, great leap series, hop on side aerial to full dismount – 9.85

Oldham (AU): good wolf 1.5 jump, good double pike, 1.5 to front lay – almost slipped but saved it, good double back to close – 9.8

Skaggs (UF): good wolf turn, beautiful leap series, solid bhs loso, beautiful front aerial, stuck side aerial to full – 9.9

Sabados (AU): great front double full to open, leaps look good, good 1.5 to front lay – 9.85

Lazzari (UF): beutiful triple series, beautiful leaps, good full turn, stuck dismount – 9.975

Hollingsworth (AU): open full in and steps OOB, beautiful leaps, good front through to double back to close – 9.725

Baumann (UF): beautiful bhs loso, gorgeous leap series, beautiful front aerial, great full turn, beautiful switch half, stuck 1.5 dismount – 9.925

Stevens (AU): good front full to rudi, great leaps, good double back to close – 9.85

Thomas (UF): great leap series, beautiful bhs loso, solid front aerial to beat jump to swingdown, stuck dismount – 9.925

Watson (AU): great double back to open, great leap series, beautiful 1.5 to front lay, over powered double back and takes a couple steps backwards OOB – 9.65

Clapper (UF): solid triple series, good full turn, beautiful leap series, stuck dismount – 9.975

Gobourne (AU): huge open double back, good front full to front lay – little stutter step, and a stuck double pike to finish – 9.95

After 3: Florida: 148.650, Auburn: 147.650

Auburn had to count one of those OOB routines, but a pretty good rotation. Florida continues to impress on beam. I’m no longer nervous watching them because I know they’re going to hit.

Rotation 4

Florida: Floor, Auburn: Beam

Oldham (AU): beautiful bhs loso, good side aerial, hop on dismount – 9.8

Clapper (UF): good double tuck to open, great 1.5 to front layout, beautiful leap series, good double pike to close – 9.825

Gobourne (AU): slight wobble on bhs loso, solid side aerial, good leaps, stuck double twist dismount  – 9.85

Skaggs (UF): good rudi to split jump to open, beautiful leap series, great 1.5 to front lay – 9.85

Hollingsworth (AU): good full turn, good bhs back pike, good leap series, slight wobble on split jump, small hop on dismount – 9.825

Lazarri (UF): great double pike to open, good 1.5 to front layout, beautiful leaps, good double back to close – 9.9

Sylvia (AU): good full turn, good front aerial to bhs loso, good leap series, good bhs swingdown, stuck gainer full – 9.9

Reed (UF): great DLO to open, beautiful front lay to rudi, leaps good, little short on double pike and takes a step forward – 9.925

McLaughlin (AU): beautiful bhs loso, great leap series, beautiful side aerial to split jump, stuck gainer pike – 9.925

Thomas (UF): huge DLO to open, great front full to front lay, beautiful leaps, beautiful double pike to close. That was better than Reed’s so… Ok, got the 10!

Stevens (AU): good bhs loso, leaps look good, good Stevens, stuck dismount – 9.875

Baumann (UF): great double tuck to open, great front full to front full, beautiful leaps, great double pike to close – 9.95

Final: Florida: 198.275, Auburn: 197.025

Florida easily gets the 198 here, and Auburn manages to get another 197. They will certainly be happy to count that as one of their two road scores.

Vault: Schoenherr 9.950
Bars: Thomas 10.000
Beam: Lazzari, Clapper 9.975
