2021 Predictions: Which senior will win the AAI Award?

There’s less than a week left until the start of the long-awaited 2021 season. While this year may look a bit different than we’re used to, the gymnastics is still the same—and it wouldn’t be a new season without some predictions. Taking a page out of The Athletic’s book, we’ll be answering one pressing question over the course of 10 days as we gear up for the first meet. Check out the previous days’ questions and predictions here.

Which senior will win the AAI Award?

Winner: Lexy Ramler (8 votes)

Runners-up: Alyssa Baumann, Anastasia Webb (2 votes)

Elizabeth: Minnesota’s Lexy Ramler is the highest-profile senior all arounder I think, and that’s normally who the award goes to. If she has a successful season, she’s my bet to win it.

Talitha: I have to agree with Elizabeth again. Lexy Ramler is the star senior this year, and if she has a good season, she will be first in line to win the award.

Katherine: I expect Lexy Ramler to run away with it as well.

Katie: I think 2020 will bring along the debut of Alyssa Baumann in the AA. I think she has her best collegiate season and becomes an AA staple for the gators here. It may be a bold prediction, but I think she has the opportunity to take the AAI Award.

Emily M: Maybe I’m being contrarian here—I do think Ramler has a solid shot—but we shouldn’t count out Anastasia Webb, either. (Yep, she’s a senior. I know.)

Brandis: Like several of my fellow editors, I believe that Lexy Ramler is the frontrunner here.

Mary Emma: I’m going to go with Lexy Ramler as well. Assuming she has another great season, I think it’s hers to lose.

Jenna: I’ll agree with the majority and go with Lexy Ramler. I don’t think she’ll run away with it, though—keep an eye on Anastasia Webb and Denver’s Lynnzee Brown.

Izzi: I agree with Katie—Alyssa Baumann definitely has a shot at the award this year and has the potential to bring in some big AA scores. She will have to have an excellent season, but the award is within her reach.

Tara: I’m going to go with Anastasia Webb. I do think Ramler will certainly have a shot at it, along with all the others mentioned, but Webb just seems right.

Claire: It’s gotta be Lexy Ramler.

Kalley: I’ve gotta go with Lexy Ramler, although I agree with others that Anastasia Webb is the other senior most likely to earn the award.
