About Sidney
Washington is a 2019 level 10 nationals qualifier. There, she finished fifth in the all around, tied for seventh on beam and for ninth of floor (Junior F). Earlier that year she was crowned Michigan state champion in the all around, vault, bars and floor, and tied for bronze on beam at Region 5 regionals. She scored a career high on vault in 2020.
What She Brings to Pittsburgh
Vault
- Skill: Yurchenko full
- Results: 2019 Michigan state champion
- Margin of Improvement: Washington’s execution is excellent. She will want to absorb the landing more to stick the vault.
- Impact on the Team: Pitt did really well in 2020, with seniors Deven Herbine and Alecia Petrikis posting 9.925s. Head coach Samantha Snider will seek to replace their scores, and Washington will do it brilliantly. She could score a “perfect” 9.950 if she sticks the landing.
Uneven Bars
- Skills: Maloney to Pak salto, Van Leuween, blind full to double tuck dismount
- Results: 2019 Michigan state champion
- Margin of Improvement: Washington has small leg separations on her release elements. The Van Leuween is a new element for her and still needs some work.
- Impact on the Team: Pitt will hope to improve its scores a bit in the years to come. Washington has the potential to score well.
Balance Beam
- Skills: BHS + layout to two feet, switch leap to switch leap half to beat jump, full turn, front toss, 1.5 twist dismount
- Results: tied third place at Region 5 regionals
- Margin of Improvement: Washington has minor knee issues on her acrobatic series and her switch half needs further extension. She will want to work on her consistency, too.
- Impact on the Team: Pitt graduated its two best beam workers in 2020. Washington will challenge for a lineup spot if she can keep her nerves at bay.
Floor Exercise
- Skills: double pike, front layout to front full, double tuck
- Results: 2019 Michigan state champion
- Margin of Improvement: Washington’s routine is ready for college. Her personality is a lot of fun, too!
- Impact on the Team: Washington will certainly be in contention for a lineup spot. Her clean routine could score into the 9.9s.
