During the offseason, it can be difficult to keep up with all the news and training updates happening across the teams. So each week, we will provide a curation of the most exciting upgrades, as well as other important news happening in the college gym world. Note the majority of the training updates highlighted will feature new skills and not someone training their same routine from the past season, for example.
Finally, note we are only able to share links to updates posted on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and not Instagram Stories or Snapchat. However, we will try to note any clips of note that we see on those disappearing platforms.
Pochinka Upgrades on High Bar
Minnesota freshman David Pochinka has been working hard this offseason to add a Takemoto half to his routine for the upcoming season. Check out his progress; we can’t wait to hopefully see it in competition soon.
Highlights From Denver’s Crimson and Gold Intrasquad
Last Sunday, the Pioneers hosted their annual Crimson and Gold intrasquad in Hamilton Gymnasium. A highlight video has been posted here. For a more in-depth summary of the event, read last week’s update.
Pitt Previews 2019 Team
Pitt held an exhibition meet this week, giving us a sneak peak of routines for the 2019 season. On vault, Charli Spivey, Olivia Miller, Alecia Petrikis and Sophie Bochenek vaulted Yurchenko fulls while Deven Herbine showed a Yurchenko half. On bars, Miller, Rachel Dugan, Megan Tripp and Lucy Brett all competed solid routines. Brett’s in particular was a highlight with a huge Gienger and finishing with a stuck double layout. The beam lineup featured seven hit routines from a mix of returners and regulars from last season. Miller showed a solid leadoff routine followed by Haley Brechwald, Kiley Robatin, Brett, Jordan Ceccarini, Brittany West and Herbine. The highlight of the rotation was the return of West, who was out with an injury for the entire 2018 season. On floor, Ceccarini led off followed by Brett, Miller, Spivey, Petrikis, Bochenek and Brechwald. Of note, Bochenek debuted her new full-in. More highlights from the meet, as well as a recap from head coach Samantha Snider, can be found here.
Missouri Holds Exhibition
Missouri previewed its 2019 team with its Black and Gold exhibition. Of note, freshman Hannah McCrary anchored the vault lineup with the Yurchenko 1.5 she’s been training all season, scoring a 9.900. McCrary was the only freshman to be shown at the exhibition, competing all four events. Other routines going 9.900 or higher included senior Britney Ward on beam (9.900) and senior Madeleine Huber on bars (9.900). Redshirt junior Becca Schugel also showed her progress on the road to recovery with a 9.750 on bars. Read more on the intrasquad here.
